It can be difficult to find any contractor, involving a homeowner service of any technical nature…read moreor aesthetic importance that truly is impressive. Well, we found one. His firm is all any homeowner could hope for ... and more. Shear Concrete. He's incredibly reliable, when so many vendors are not. He explains things clearly and stands by his promises. He's courteous to a fault. More than courteous, he's genuinely friendly and outgoing..., in every respect a pleasure to deal with. Important in terms of why we hired Shear Concrete, Trent has a conspicuous pride in his customer service and the quality of his workmanship. It's far beyond what any homeowner reasonably could expect ... and it's at absolute the highest level. Equally impressive, Trent's service is provided at a fair price and at precisely what the consumer was promised. The workmanship was spectacular. Many contractors would think that a sidewalk simply is, well, "a sidewalk". Not to Trent. His design AND workmanship are special ... superb actually. Drive by and see for yourself ... our Beloit address is below. Large brick house on Milwaukee Road, on the right, one lot short of Chapin. Our crowning compliment is that we were so pleased with Shear Concrete's work and the friendly and businesslike approach that we immediately retained the company for ANOTHER PROJECT. Anyone seeking more information is free to call Alan Truesdale @ 608.530.2893 Our address is 726 Milwaukee Road. My best, Alan Truesdale

On 8/9/2023 we entered into a contract with RPM Contracting of Machesney Park, Illinois…read more The issues highlighted in yellow (included in a document attached) were not addressed, which was one of the reasons that led to two leaks. RPM struggled to fix the leaks, and we will continue to have problems until the gutters are properly repaired. Due to the leaks, the insurance company hired an engineering firm (Rimkus of Willowbrook, IL, Matter No. 100266257) that produced a report detailing RPM's mistakes. As a result of RPM's failure to fix the gutter or reattach them correctly, my family room ceiling had to be removed by a contractor due to water damage. I also had to hire a plumber because RPM initially blamed the plumbing in the bathroom (which is nowhere near the water damage). RPM then claimed it was the chimney, but a chimney expert later confirmed that the chimney was not leaking, though it did need a crown replacement. His words were, "Water does not flow like that." I now have to cover costs for the contractor, a painter (since multiple rooms suffered water damage, which the engineering report also attributed to the roof leaks), and my attic had been treated with mold-resistant coating, which has now become wet due to the leaks. RPM sent two men, Sean and Mike, to assess the damage, but they incorrectly stated the attic was dry. That same morning, the contractor, and later that week the engineer, both observed water. A hole had even been drilled into the bedroom ceiling to allow water to drain down, instead of along the walls where it was originally flowing.

Ok, I have another review on Yelp giving these folks one star…read more If you read that review you'll see I did not have an initial good experience with these folks. However, after I posted it(they apparently monitor their reviews) Martin called. Essentially they said you're pissed and understandably . Let us make it right. Helped me get the roof reinspected as well as gutter and siding. As near as I can tell it was quality work (I'm in no position to inspect a roof). The roof got replaced in a decent time frame. The other work took some time and calls from me to find out what the hold up was. Overall it was a good experience with the noted caveats.

Absolutely Avoid - Unlicensed, Unskilled, and Completely Irresponsible…read more I strongly advise anyone considering this company for roofing work to look elsewhere. They advertise themselves as "roofing experts," but the truth is appalling: surely only one individual on their team, maybe the "boss" is actually licensed for roofing. The rest of the labor is subcontracted to unlicensed, untrained workers - individuals they seem to pick up from street corners or Home Depot parking lots, South American migrants, with no verified experience in roofing or skylight installation. The crew that came to replace my roof was in junk trucks that collect trash items, with no company logos; they spoke no English, the tools they used were a duck taped 2 ladders into one so they can get to the roof and duck taped electric cables to play Latin music while "working". Before leaving the block they collected some of my neighbors trash chairs and baby crib. One of their "bosses" proudly stated they are from Guatemala. Regardless where they are from they had no clue of the job to be done or work ethics. A side note: they ruined my flower beds and plants I had just planted in Spring. I hired the company to replace my roof and skylight because the 2 American gentlemen that came to my door to get my business seemed thrust worthy. I did not go out looking for them, there were other companies coming as well since we just had hail. However, due to their subcontracting, the job was clearly botched. As soon as winter hit -- the first winter after the roof replacement -- the skylight started leaking around the corners of the skylight. Water damage stained the bathroom ceiling, completely ruining the paint and creating the perfect conditions for mold to grow. Despite multiple calls and three return visits where they applied sealant around the skylight (and proudly showed me the caulking tube as if that's a professional solution), they now deny any responsibility. Instead, they're absurdly blaming "temperature changes" -- despite the fact that I've lived in this home for over four years and never had a leak before they touched the roof. They also said it is practically "impossible" to file claim with the skylight manufacturer- no explanation given. Their customer service is dismissive, evasive, and frankly insulting. One of the guys offered me $100. They refuse to fix the damage their shoddy workmanship caused, and it's clear they never intended to stand by their work in the first place. Their practices are shady, their professionalism nonexistent, and their concern for client satisfaction is zero. Clearly, hiring them you get zero warranty on their labor. This company is a textbook example of what happens when you hire people who cut corners, use unqualified labor, and run from accountability. Save yourself the stress, expense, and water damage -- hire a licensed, reputable roofer who takes their craft and clients seriously. I'll be taking legal action.

There was no further damage but given the age of the roof, the insurance company's underwriters let us know we should replace it. Josh and his crew were able to complete the roof work (including inspection with the shingles off) and we are very satisfied with the work and the crew. They were fantastic, efficient and very reasonable on cost. The roof color Josh recommended is beautiful! It's Desert Rose I believe. The overall experience of the repair as well as the roof replacement were top notch. We have no complaints. We highly recommend Hardyman Roofing for repairs and replacement. Five stars for craftsmanship, for the customer service and again, for everything. I have also asked him to repaint and repair my siding in some hard to reach places as well.
