His bid to repair my chimney came in well under the "Sons" in town. He rebuilt the top 21 courses of our chimney, poured a new cap, and installed proper ventilation and screens to keep animals out. He also drilled out all of the old mortar for the entire chimney and replaced with new, fresh mortar. At the end, he pressure washed the chimney and it looks like new! The ignition switch was not working. The technician pulled the unit away from the wall and pushed it back in again and that fixed the problem with the ignition. I assume the movement must had wiggled something that had caused the problem. He also cleaned some build up on the inside but that was not what was causing the problem. In fact, he never did figure out what had been causing the switch not to work. He asked if I wanted him to figure it out and I said "No" since it was now working. For this half an hour of work they charged me a $300 "diagnostic" fee., despite the fact that they did not diagnose the problem with the switch. That equals a $600/hr. rate. The explained that they don't charge an hourly rate because if the tech was training a new employee, it would cost the client more for the extra time. .
