Eric and Lindsey's creativity and passion truly transformed our yard, and the crew (special shoutout to Sam & Anders!) went above and beyond. Take the opportunity to grab 'em while you can. When Aspen gets busy, they get VERY busy, and Eric -- I conjecture -- don't quote me -- would need to turn away clients or ask them to go on a waiting list for the following year. Mr. Eric, Ms. Lindsey, and the rest of their brilliant crew have been working on a multi-year project for me putting in hardscape, including grading and, ultimately, changing (soft-scaping) our two acres from lawn to native plants+wildlife flower garden. Eric and crew are experts on native plants. The more I read about "lawns," the more I cringe every time I pass one on the road. Lawns, being non-native plants, they are animal-torturers -- ironically, lawns passively mow down animals. Think of lawns as efficient animal-disposal machines. Do the planet (and your neighborhood) a favor and make your land friendly to critters by insisting on native plants. Native plants and animals evolved together over millions of years, so when one's land doesn't have native plants, wildlife starves, all the way up and down the food-chain. Lawns are gasoline- and water-guzzlers. The lawn industry uses up a humongous amount of petroleum products merely in lawn-mowing. I am a "Gone the Lawn" person now. Lawns are appropriate ONLY under certain circumstances, like one is a croquet fanatic. I never knew that gardening was year-round. April is the month everyone waits for, but planning starts the previous autumn. Eric's physically-demanding season winds down in mid-November, so let him see your plot before the snows hide the land. Autumn is the best time to start brainstorming the design phase for the following April. Eric and crew are not only landscapers but artists.

Taylor is a very…read morecordial and friendly person but professionally his communication was poor and we're only becoming more disappointed in our landscaping over time. Our project was delayed by at least six months over the course of last year and several of the aspects we discussed were never completed (such as removing the dead brambles after spraying with Roundup, which was something we initially discussed avoiding as part of the project). We recently discovered a large cache of stones that had been abandoned by the crew after losing a full day of work getting a piece of machinery stuck in our yard. There are still large ruts in the turf where the skidsteer was stuck, those were never repaired. We paid full price to Taylor for what I feel is less than a fully completed project. In fact, I fear we may have overpaid by a significant margin. Some of what was completed is pretty nice (e.g. a retaining wall that looks good, although shaped differently than originally discussed). Taylor seems to do very little of this work himself, instead subcontracting out to others. Perhaps this is the issue with how the projects at Blue Iris get completed. As I mentioned before I enjoyed talking with Taylor, he seems knowledgable and very friendly, but the work product that's now part of our home is not something we can take pride in.

We had met with a half dozen other firms regarding replacement of a deteriorated, timber-lined hillside path to the lakefront. There were significant challenges due to slope, established trees, and limited site access. We also wanted the new path to be integrated and consistent with the existing landscape. At our initial meeting with Joe, we were impressed by his enthusiasm, creativity, and attention to details. We worked with him for about six months to refine the design, address permitting issues and select materials. Joe was always responsive to requests, offered constructive recommendations and enhanced the project design. Beyond replacing the path, we added a patio and seating area. The project took four weeks to complete in the fall of 2023. Joe's crew was exemplary - they were talented craftsmen - expert hardscape installers who worked hard all day and were mindful of neighbors' concerns - which were very few. The project was completed on time and on budget. We are pleased to have worked with Joe and his Landscape Architecture team and with the completed project.

Joe and his crew modified the existing landscape and added several touches of there own- what a world of difference! They have an excellent eye for beauty, but also function, such that our yard seems to take care of itself (well, except for mowing). Recently, we had an incredibly challenging water issue at our boat house. The property is over 100 years old, so we were told there wasn't much to do to change the drainage. Joe and his crew solved the issue after a bit of research. Not only have we solved the flooding, but the new deck is stunning. The crew was meticulous in removing the old and sweeping up after the new installation. The boat house hasn't functioned or looked this good in 100 years!
