Rocco's Place is a klassy place on S.E. 82nd, not too far south of the Portland-Clackamas County line.

If a person uses S.E. 82nd Avenue in Clackamas County ad nauseum, then they'll probably see Rocco's Place. It's a divey looking place so, if it wasn't for the sign advertising tacos on Wednesdays, I'd probably never have gone here. However, it's not Rocco's that serves up the tacos. It's a food truck that shares the parking lot with the bar. The folks at Rocco's were nice enough and said that it's o.k. to bring in the tacos from the food truck as long as you purchase something at Rocco's. So I did just that. I asked for an order of spinach dip and one greyhound during the happy hour. This is starting to sound odd - 2 tacos from another joint, spinach dip, and a greyhound. La Catrina's tacos were very good, but so was the spinach dip, which was served with pita bread. The greyhound was decent. It was the first time I've seen one made with the red grapefruit juice. I devoured the spinach dip. I've heard this place can be raucous. It wasn't on this visit. Their customers appear to be regulars. They are there for the libations. The happy hour prices were reasonable. The service was pleasant enough but, then, they weren't that busy. I asked who Rocco might be. It's the friend of a relative of a relative. Not only that, Rocco was not even Italian. He was Greek. So, if you think you're going to go in here and hear someone say, "Hey, yous guys, I was tinkin' of trowin' a pahty" ... fat chance. This place's roots are Ecotopian. Do I give Rocco 5 stars because it's R-o-c-c-o? I think not. Do I give Rocco 5 stars because he is or was a G-u-i-d-o? No, because he isn't or wasn't. Do I give Rocco 5 stars because its exterior is r-u-s-t-y? No, because it makes it look even tackier. So, if starting with 5 stars, I'm deducting stars for their limited food offerings and for it not being the sort of place you'd want to hang out on a regular basis, either because it's not particularly appealing or because it's obvious they've got their regulars. However, if you want to sign up to become a regular, then be my guest. Overall, Rocco's Place could be o.k.

Shitty service. Warm beers. Waitress smokes rather than works. Machines don't pay. Steer clear! Many more options on 82nd.

Unfortunately, our experience last night was extremely disappointing. We were dining with a visiting family member and had just received our food and first round of drinks. When our waitress--who mentioned it was her first day--came back, I politely ordered a second drink. About 10-15 minutes later, a bartender (whose name was shared with us as Diego by our waitress) brought the drink to the table. Instead of simply delivering it, he spoke to me in an aggressive and condescending tone, telling me this would be the only time a drink would be brought to the table and that next time I needed to go to the bar because they "don't do table service." The issue wasn't the policy--it was the way it was communicated. It felt disrespectful, unprofessional, and completely lacking in basic customer service. Shortly after, our waitress returned and asked if the bartender had been upset about the order, which added to how uncomfortable the situation felt. As the only table of color in the space at the time, the interaction left us questioning whether this was simply poor training, a bad night, or something more concerning. I can't say for certain--but I can say it did not feel welcoming or respectful. We chose to finish quickly, pay our bill, and leave with our food. This experience does not reflect the kind of hospitality we expect from our neighborhood. I truly hope this was an isolated incident and that management takes steps to address staff communication and customer service.

Small burgers so I recommend you get two burgers and fries. It's a neighbourhood bar so it's frequented by locals and people from the sorrounding neighbourhoods but it's not a very diverse crowd. I would not mind coming back but that's only because of the cheap drinks! It opens at 4pm every day and you can find the hours on google.

When Queen of Hearts changed over to Cadigan's Corner, the bikes motored on, but the characters remained. I only went one time, but the experience was intense and memorable, and included a server with a spirit-collecting sword, and a sign that said: "We are not responsible for women left unattended." Among other highlights. So when Old Gilbert took over the spot, I had small hopes, but one leery eye on the door. I've been in a good number of times now, and in comparison to its predecessors, it's fantastic. One generally feels pretty safe, and the flair for the dramatic is low. All in all, it's pretty bare bones. I'm waiting for it to fully develop its personality, but for now its theme to me is: cheap thrills, no frills.
