    Santino's Tap & Table - Scrapple Bites

    Santino's Tap & Table

It is hard to find places right near we live that are consistently good that also have a robust…read moremenu and also offer rotating dishes, especially those that have unique choices that change seasonally; Santino's Tap & Table meets that need. I have been here a few times, with the first visit being the best of the three "attempted" visits, I believe. The first time we were so impressed with both the service and the food that we had been looking for every opportunity to go back and enjoy a meal without the distraction of other people or kids, and when we did finally secure that on a random Thursday early evening, we were sorely disappointed. We arrived at 4 in the afternoon, it was a bit busy for that time of day, with most of the seating already taken. However, there were several booths open as well as a larger table open. When we asked to be seated (no one else was waiting) we were politely told that there was nothing available and that all the remaining tables were reserved for people at 5pm. This is by no means the fault of the hostesses but there was also no reason we couldn't be seated and we left very disappointed and a bit bothered. So having a third chance to go to Santino's again, was also a good experience, just not as exciting and outstanding as the first. Our server was great, as the staff has always been, even when we were turned away, but nothing really stood out as anything special this time. The food was good, but nothing to write home about. I was sold on the meatball salad, which was a concept that seemed really strange to me at first, but then I cozied up to it and convinced myself it was a great, unique thing. It was bland at best, but still interesting! Everything else was just okay. Not what I remembered from the original time I had been here. All of that said, this is still somewhere I will go again. The draw of the unique, rotating menu is too great, and the people that work here are wonderful. Plus it's nearby and easy! Give Santino's a try. Maybe it was an off day the last time I was there and maybe the one time, they were simply too busy or worried we wouldn't be finished before their reserved seating showed up. Either way, it's worth some of your time, a taste, and some of your dollars.

It is not the greatest food I have ever had, but when in need of a casual night out to grab some food, it does the trick. Friendly staff and it is a decent-sized space. A lot of TVs, even in the dining room, if it's a sports night.

About a week before booking a table at the Broad Table Tavern, a friend of ours came to us and told…read moreus they had a great time here. If definitely fed into our decision but we were looking for something nearby as my godmother wanted to take us to dinner for our anniversary after seeing our daughters in Newsies nearby. As always, I booked our table under my moniker, Sir Cornelius Silkbottom, to which the person taking reservations seemed a bit apprehensive, as I am very used to at this point. However, our reservation was perfect, and when we showed up at the nice little restaurant attached to the Inn at Swarthmore, we were seated right away, and next to the large windows that open up to the seated patio with a beautiful view of the golden hour of the day. One thing that was a little strange was that they charged for bread. Throughout our meal we kept having questions about what the true intention of what the Broad Table was going for in their presentation and their service. Our server and the staff was very nice, but we couldn't put our finger on whether the place is supposed to be very high-end, and upscale farmhouse style new American joint, farm-to-table, or what the heck was going on here. All I do know is that we enjoyed the heck out of what we ordered. Where they seemed to shine the most was in the very little nuanced things; a sweet lavender butter provided with the bread was a show stopper. The beet sauce along with my halibut was also outstanding. Everyone's meal was great, but we simply couldn't pin a label on this place, which may be the very purpose to begin with. Maybe Broad Table doesn't need a label or to be boxed in, and it really doesn't matter because it's delicious and the selection is varied enough for everyone! What is great about Broad Table Tavern is that it can be a standalone bar, a restaurant, and if you happen to be staying at the Inn, it is definitely a place to go for your meals. It's not cheap, but it is a great stop that will Make things easy for meals especially if you are here visiting kids in college to for a conference or another event. If you are in the area, this can easily become a place for a nice meal for two or a group, but as the evening gets later, the space becomes a bit more intimate for a date and it isn't too loud, sometimes featuring a live pianist. I suggest you try it out if you live in the area or happen to be traveling here, it will not disappoint!

She's amazing. Good lighting. A bit overpriced for what you get, but that's par for the course since it's a hotel restaurant.

Being a smaller operation/kitchen, my best advice would be to order in advance. Wait times for walk up were 15-20 mins. The couple running the operation are very nice people and not afraid to give recommendations or talk shop. Menu prices are just below or right around average in the area. The double smash burger I ordered on my first trip ($9.95 + extra $3 for fries) was a little drippy and the meat itself was a little bland, but the crisp edges were there and the onions, mustard, ketchup, pickle added some flavor. I believe I heard the cook say a single is 4oz. The bun was good, but was soggy from the grease. Overall for a smash in this area I give it a good grade. The seasoned fries that came with weren't bad. 15 min wait for walk up. My second visit felt like a chili and wing day. The boss man recommended his Lemon Pepper sauce on the side. The wings were on the smaller side, breaded with a seasoning/rub on them that was pretty salty. The lemon pepper sauce was tangy and leaned way more to the lemon side. It wouldn't have been my first pick, but it worked. 20 min wait for walk up. They have a great menu mix - Fresh fruit smoothies, Sides (fries, tots, onion rings, hash browns, corn bread, empanadas), Breakfast sandwiches and platters (bacon, beef bacon, hot sausage, chicken & waffles), lunch has steak sandwiches, wings, single or double smash burger, hot dogs, hot sausages, chicken fingers, crispy chicken sandwich, a couple of chicken soups and a fish sandwich. They have a small drink cooler, small bags of chips and some cookies too. If you're in the area stop in and check them out. 3.5 all day for these folks. Thanks guys!
