However, I am very surprised at the apathy and sheer unpleasantness of the staff I have encountered here. This is my fourth visit and never have I had a pleasant, well-informed staffer. Despite the fact that they have an original product in a lovely locale with very high prices, they have not made any effort to make customers feel valued, at home or even happy to give a tip. We decided to test this place out despite the negative reviews. My first disappointment was due to the prices - $10 for a large cup of gelato. The worker told us that toppings were included, so we paid then made our way to the toppings bar. After we selected our second topping, the employee said "ok is that it?" My first thought was, "Ummm no...we paid $10 for this gelato and toppings are allegedly included. I would like more than 3 strawberry slices and 5 popping boba." We politely said that we would like a few more toppings to which the employee replied "Well just to let you know, the toppings can only cover the top of the gelato." ...We were confused by this comment since there isn't another place that you could put toppings- they go on top of the gelato. We said ok then asked if we could add some crushed nuts. He started sprinkling them over the gelato then said, "ok this will be your last topping." ...WHAT! Are we children? Telling grown adults that will be their last topping? How humiliating. We didn't say anything as I'm sure this employee is just following rules that their boss has set, but it was incredibly frustrating and in poor taste. Tricking people into paying an exorbitant price by saying that toppings are included then reneging on it after your credit card has been swiped. Not a good look. I would strongly suggest that the owner of this business take some courses on customer satisfaction. A great place to start would be by reading the book, "Give 'em the Pickle" by Bob Farrell. The gist of the book is that a business owner should first concentrate on serving customers with excellence, and the money will follow. The "pickle" refers to whatever a customer wants or needs to feel satisfied. In the case of a gelato shop, the "pickle" would be the toppings. The goal of managers and employees should be to deliver the pickle with a smile. The ability to deliver quality customer service is at the core of business success. I got their chocolate gelato which I personally wouldn't qualify as gelato, but instead soft serve. I thought it was delicious for soft serve especially with all the fun toppings. However, I am just not the biggest fan of soft serve compared to other desserts plus in my opinion it's pricey. Rocambolesc has a eye-catching design that really draws you in-- from the aesthetics of the interior, wall decor, and interesting font choice, this highly-touted and very acclaimed gelato store is purportedly the only one of its kind in the USA! I entered with high expectations. The staff took our order quickly and professionally, and we ordered strawberry, apple pie, coconut violet instead of the staple flavors. I was glad to see Rocambolesc take a swing at some new flavors, but unfortunately they only batted one out of three. The one they really got right with me was the strawberry, which is actually a strawberry hibiscus (it's not overtly advertised as such). Great balance of tartness, airiness, with a nice herbal hibiscus body into a sweet finish. Highly recommend this one. Now, onto the misses--the apple pie conveyed the caramelized, burnt sugary sweetness or apple pie, but after three spoons, this gelato is noticeably denser than the other flavors, and the heavy creamy profile caused us to get sick of the sickly sweet, dense flavor. The first couple bites were great, though, I would recommend sampling to see if it's for you. Last, the coconut violet. It's definitely on the lighter side with regard to texture, giving us an almost whipped cream mouthfeel. This is not inherently bad, but it also just lacked flavor. Couldn't catch notes of coconut or violet, to be honest. trying it alongside the other flavors may have masked its true nature, however, so take it with a grain of salt. Price initially turned me off--$10 is a lot for gelato--but truth is that you can't try these flavors elsewhere in town, so depending on you see it the novelty is worth it. I'm glad to see folks get creative, but unfortunately there was a hit and two misses. Unlikely to return unless new flavors are trialled. disappointed since i expected more. it looks pretty but the taste isn't the best. i tried all the baked goods and they were dry. i wouldn't get a single one of the baked goods again. if it was only strawberry i would have liked it much better bc the hibiscus gave it a weird floral flavor for the strawberry hibiscus. the apple pie was much better than i expected but the best was the coconut purple one. all flavors have a very smooth texture which is great. i don't remember the name of it but it was the best. the shortbread cookies i got as a topping were dry too. i guess all their cookies are just dry. i really liked the raspberry bits the best. honestly would skip on this dessert place but i'm glad i tried it at least. read more

Just savored the Violet Coconut Gelato with violet marshmallows and homemade (!!!) strawberry gummies. What a delicious flavor combination! What's great about this place is the flavors are fresh, not packaged and there's enough interesting variety that your chocolate and vanilla relatives will be happy with the excellent chocolate and vanilla gelato while you experiment wildly with all the marvelous combinations. Ok to write this comment i know there are some peoples probably not gonna be too happy about my comment but this is my opinion thought. Third of all , the ice cream or gelato i'm not sure because your shop look like it mostly gonna be highlight about gelato but it just not there . I got the purple coconut flavor i believe that topping is nice but the texture of the icecream it just not it , it way too soft for a gelato , to be honest the ice cream texture need to have a fix on the formula it way too easy to melt out like in 60s it already melt out like water and so fast that the Mcdonald 1 buck ice cream even take longer to melt and have a better texture , seriously not to be too harsh but this gelato is the embarrassment of Italy , when a customer seeking for gelato their looking for something that chewy and thicker texture rather than so icy that not even it , the topping is nice . Lastly let talk about price and service .
