I went to see Dr Adam Roca after being told by Arlington Center for Dentistry that I needed well over $1000 worth of work done. ACD seemed like a bit of a factory to me (too interested in sales when I had just gone in for a checkup) so I decided to go with a family dentist this time instead. Dr Roca was straight talking, down to earth and (most importantly) honest. He took x-rays and after examining told me that I did not need any of the removals/fillings that they had tried to force at the other dentist. Dr Roca is superb. Her billing office is what brought her review down. To their credit, the billing office adjusted the bill after I complained but I still paid extra. I have another dental provider and do not have this problem. I believe this office is used to people that pay cash or use a payment plan. You should not need a payment plan for a routine cleaning or X-rays with a practice that is in network for your insurance and this is confirmed with the insurance this place is in network and there was to be no payment. However, that did not stop the billing office from charging $300 for services my insurance said were 100% covered. It was like, the billing office looked at what the max they could charge the insurance company, multiplied it by 2 and charged me half so they could get paid twice. I hope it was worth it. read more

I was lured in by their deal on invisalign. I should have known better than to go somewhere with a deal. Although I was told that my case was to difficult for invisalign express (so I paid for comprehensive), after 10 trays, I was told that my treatment was complete and that the retainers would take care of the rest. After several months, and still not having completely straight teeth, I went back in. They said that I needed more trays to finish the work. They said that it was my fault for not telling them that my teeth were not straight enough after the initial trays and I would need to pay to re-open the case. I would also need to pay close to $1000 for new retainers after the treatment. They are the dentists. Shouldn't they have known that my teeth weren't straight? I said no thank you and transferred my case to another dentist. The treatment at the new dentist is much better. He spent a lot more time with me during my initial appointment, took more pictures, and ensured that the molds were perfect. I re-opened my case and it will take an additional 4 months to complete the work. Each visit, he takes time to examine how my teeth are moving and if I'll need additional trays. Drs. Roca never did that. The retainers are also much less expensive. So, it does matter what dentist you go to to get invisalign. I recommend going somewhere that will take the time to do it right. In addition to better quality, it will be faster and cheaper in the long run. read more

I found Dr. Roca (Adam) through an emergency situation. My, then current, dentist was not taking my calls so I starting calling other practices. I called the office emergency line (before real business hours) and Dr. Roca picked up immediately. I was in so much pain I was almost crying over the phone and he told me he would have reception call me back and fit me in ASAP. He did just that and I was filling out paper work within the hour. The office staff was great and very understanding. The dental assistant was very comforting and took time to talk to me and calm me down. Both the assistant and the doctor walked me through what my problem was, what needed to be done, and what the prognosis was. I really cannot emphasize how much I felt like the people treating me actually cared. I am now switching over to make Dr. Roca my primary dentist. read more

Dr. Roca set out a complete plan for my treatment and explained everything in detail to me that needed to be done. I can't praise enough this wonderful father-son dental practice! I learned of it from several Foreign Service friends who faced dental emergencies while back in D.C. from overseas. The Rocas are renowned for ALWAYS helping those in distress, even if it's a weekend or holiday. They take many types of dental insurance, but their fees are reasonable for those who don't have it. They serve the indigent and people with disabilities. They also provide outstanding preventive care to their regular patients. Mom (receptionist) and Dad (Dr. Roca) are wonderful, warm, experienced and really want you to be happy with their services... They will go out of their way to do anything for you. Unfortunately, the son is a greedy little whiner who preferred to call me personally 35 times to try and collect the $20 my insurance underpaid (I already paid the amount I agreed too with his mom, at the time of service) than actually perform any sort of dentistry. Baby Doctor also refused to fill a cavity for my daughter when his dad was unavailable even though mom explained to him that it was the last day we would be able to use that particular insurance so we would lose several hundred dollars if he refused. Baby doc gave zero fks and I have no tolerance for that sort of selfishness. I was truly sad to give up seeing mom and dad but putting up with the spoiled one just wasn't worth it. read more

I got Invisalign through Adam Roca and I have to give him and the office credit for being so efficient, friendly, and overall great. I just finished the 5 month process and am very pleased with the outcome. The price advertised is all-inclusive -- including the free whitening at the end and the retainer. I'd heard that other dentists will tack on an extra $200 to have a retainer made at the end (which you must have, of course), so I e-mailed Dr. Roca from their website and he personally wrote back to say that he doesn't pull any tricks and is always upfront about costs. I never waited more than 5 minutes to be seen and the staff was always really nice. Thanks, Dr. Roca!! read more

I love this place. I frantically called Dr. Roca's office on a Monday evening around 2:00pm asking to see if they did something called a "limited evaluation," or what I like to call a second opinion. Yah, I didnt know what that was either, but let me tell you, after going to Arlington Center for Dentistry (ACD) and being told you have five cavities, you're forced to do your research. Bottom line- ACD is an awful, awful place, and Dr. Roca's office is wonderful. They scheduled me for a same day appointment, checked out my teeth and told me that ACD was full of crap. (maybe not in those exact words, but something along those lines.) I made a follow-up appointment to have one sealant replaced, which was painless and easy, oh and no wait time. The best thing about this office, aside from the great dental work, is the excellent and extremely friendly staff. The receptionists clearly try to get to know you and make you feel comfortable. AND Dr. Roca is sooo cool. Not only does he explain everything he is doing to your teeth, while he is doing it, but he is talkative, laid back, and funny. He is the type of person you want to go grab a beer with after getting your cavities filled, even with local anesthetic, yup that's how cool he is. I've had many dentists, and many cavities, and this place by far exceeds my expectations. read more

You need two things in a dentist - great professional skill and integrity. I have been to dentists who have said I had cavities when I didn't, who wanted to X-ray me when I was pregnant, who wanted to charge $10,000 for unneeded procedures - especially in NOVA there seems to be a plethora of unscrupulous dentists. It is therefore a breath of fresh air to go to Dr Roca. Quite simply: you can trust him. Trust him not to wreck your mouth with unneeded procedures, trust him to be up to speed on all the newest technology and procedures, trust him not to charge you the earth and to listen to you - even trust him to take emergency calls other dentists won't. His dental hygienist put it best: 'I've worked for a lot of dentists - many of whom should not be able to practice - and Dr Roca is the real thing. I avoided any dentist for as long as I could but once I quit the bad habit of chewing tobacco I figured it was time to go get my teeth & gums all taken care of. Dr. Roca (Adam) was not just the best dentist but one of the very best in customer care in any industry I've ever seen. I told him I was nervous, I got a relaxer before I came. I said I hated the sound of their machines, I got to listen to my headphones while they worked. I don't drive, so he dropped me off on his way home so I didn't have to call a cab.
