I've had so many issues with dentists over the years and have lost all trust. However, I still need to go to the dentist. My boyfriend found Dr. Roca through the Facebook group, Arlington Neighbors and I had my first appointment today (06/25/2025) for a cleaning and checkup. My Dental Hygienist, Nicole, was fantastic. I will continue to ask for her for all my cleanings moving forward. Dr. Roca was friendly & professional and made me feel at ease with his assessment. I didn't feel like I was just another patient. Dr. Adam Roca at Roca Dental on 10th St in Clarendon is great. He's an excellent dentist and doesn't push unnecessary work or expensive services like other dentists I've seen. He's careful and definitely does what's necessary of course, and he explains everything in a calm, thorough, reassuring and patient manner. The front desk desk staff and technicians are also great--they're kind, competent, and efficient, and do an excellent job keeping everything running smoothly and professionally. They are nice and easy to work with both on the phone and in the office, and are happy to answer questions and address any scheduling issues, billing concerns, and anything else without sounding rushed or imposed upon in any way (which some in such positions unfortunately do at other offices of various sorts). The whole experience is easy and as comfortable as reassuring any dentist experience can be. I've been with them for years and have been extremely happy the entire time. Implant, crown, cracked molar removal (difficult), re-fitting metal fillings with new white amalgam 1 Care Quality-I have had 100% satisfaction with each of these procedures. Office experience--excellent staff that are also helpful, and friendly. On two occasions I have asked for emergency care. Dr. Roca's system allows you to talk directly to him in this situation after calling his office phone you can be directed to his cell phone to leave a message. He contacted me right away, although I realize that his schedule may be too busy in some instances. Luckily I was able to be seen the next day. Finally a dental practice that feels good as in friendly, efficient, relaxed, and thorough. I've had 2 cleanings this year and find the staff warm, welcoming & human. Dr. Roca checked each tooth one by one. I received an A+ on cleaning technique (love flossing with interdental brushes "interdental brushes are more effective in removing plaque than floss". Some people bite their nails, I use these brushes while watching TV! I'm not a fan of regular floss. Anyway, excited to "want" and keep my appointments. 1 minute drive in Clarendon VA is also new for me. Happy with dental practice first time in 20 years. Thank you Roca Dental. Our whole family goes to Dr. Roca. He's great! This time I want to give a shout out to the hygienists. They're all good, but today I had the good fortune of getting Ethel who is new. She was so thorough and such a perfectionist. My teeth look cleaner and whiter than when I use white strips! Even when she was polishing my teeth, she'd find spots she had missed and put the polisher down and started scraping again. Fabulous dental practice! I have been coming here for probably 20+ years and have always been impressed by the skill and professionalism of the dentists, hygienists, and front desk staff. First there was the amazing Dr. Aurelio Roca, who retired a few years ago. Happily his son, Dr. Adam Roca, took over the practice. Like father, like son- both excellent dentists! Also, Sam is the best hygienist I have ever had. I was afraid to get my teeth cleaned during the Trump Virus Pandemic, so I had cancelled several appointments. Finally, I went last week and found that the office took all possible precautions to make the experience as sterile as possible. This is not Dr. Roca's review but it is one of his receptionists. I went there a few days ago and one of the ladies at the front desk was not wearing a mask. I asked her why aren't you wearing a mask. She said she is "sitting here drinking coffee". There was no coffee on her desk. She didn't even have a mask around her neck or anywhere close. I said but you should wear a mask when talking to me, she said "but you are wearing a mask, that's enough". When checking out, she was still not wearing a mask! Don't go here unless you want to be harassed. I have been a patient for over 15 years, Dr. Roca Sr was wonderful, Dr. Roca Jr was fine. Recently Sr retired and the office has no respect for patient ever since. I've never missed an appointment for 15+ years, but the office demands confirmation calling everyday as if they are debt collector (something never happened before). My appointment was supposed to be 7:00 AM Thursday. When Jenni called at 8:30 am Wednesday for the 4th time demanding my confirmation, I told Jenni in the future I would call only if I can't make my appointment, but I won't call to confirm. Instead of respecting customer's wish for something so simple, she disrespectfully hung up on me. I immediately called back telling her since she wanted my confirmation, I originally intended to come but because of her disrespectful attitude I wasn't coming. She told me she would bill me $50 for "Broken Appointment". Jenni demanded a confirmation, I gave her a confirmation but not what she wanted so she retaliated with "broken appointment" fee. What's the point of calling to confirm when you were going to charge me anyway? What's the point of harassing the customer so they don't want to come to the appointment anymore? When I moved here, the first dentist I saw was quick to send me away with a $15,000 treatment plan. I was horrified, of course, and felt that they saw me as nothing more than a profit to their business. I realize my review is a bit old, but there was no Yelp when I first met Dr Roca. I was 12 years old when I first met Dr Roca in his Arlington office, I believe he shared with his dad at the time. The kindest, nicest genuine, funny, gentle and professional doctor. Always greeted me by saying, "Como estas Campion" :) I first saw Dr Roca in 79, then last saw him in 84 shortly after my father, a Diplomat from Venezuela passed. All alone at the tender age of 14 I could tell Dr. Roca felt horrible for me and was genuine and sincere when he advised me to do good and stay in the right path. I did alright Dr. Roca, you'd be proud of me. Thanks for all your kind words in my darkest moment. Hell of a Dentist too, I'm still rocking the 1979 root canal. Best dentist I've ever had (period!), and I have about half-dozen other friends who would echo that sentiment...we seriously text each other about how awesome this place is. No judgments or passive aggressive comments about how my flossing is subpar-- just fantastic encouragement and good vibes. From the receptionist to the doctors themselves, its always smiles. I seriously feel like I'm visiting old friends when I go in for my biannual cleaning. Absolutely love how these guys use technology and visual aids to show you what's up. Even if I moved 2 hours away, I probably would still go here. So there you have it. I loved Roca dental when I first went in. Clean, modern office, great staff, and no pain AND they have Saturday appointments. But 4 months back, I went in complaining of tooth pain. Like a really sharp pain in my molar. The dentist took X-rays and said it looked okay and sent me home with Sensodyne, but the pain never went away. I felt a little unsure at the time but figured if the X-ray didn't show anything, I was in the clear. But then tonight, I was flossing that tooth and it BROKE IN HALF! Horrified, I made an emergency dental appointment with a new dentist who I am going to see tomorrow. I brush and floss twice a day, am young, and in good health, so I'm not feeling good that this happened, and it makes me wonder if anything could have been done on Roca's part to prevent it. I feel bad, too, because the staff is so great, as is the office and location. read more

My initial Invasalign appointments with Dr. Roca were pleasant enough, until I had a complaint. Then, I felt as if I was not being listened to, and that I was just being given alternative remedies that would cost more. If the Invisalign braces could not fix my issues, they should have communicated that to me up front. Perhaps I don't know teeth in general, but I do know what I see when I look in the mirror every day. I felt brushed off, and will not refer anyone to their office. Additionally, once they were aware of my dissatisfaction, they seemed to want to get my treatment done more quickly to get rid of me, but braces could not be rushed. Therefore, to their obvious dismay, they were stuck with me a few more months. read more

I went to Roca Dental for Invisalign. I know from past dentists that my case was very easy and straight forward, with no complications. I wish I had gone somewhere else. The office staff has been friendly and helpful, my issue is with the quality of their work. After my treatment was done, retainers were required, which cost an additional $450. The first two bottom retainers did not fit (the first looked as if it had melted, and the second would not fit my teeth at all-wrong teeth or shrank?). As an alternative, they provided me with a modified Invisalign aligner as a retainer. The first top retainer they provided was poorly made so it cracked where the plastic was clearly thinner than the rest of the retainer. They offered to replace it. However, they made the next one "twice as thick" without asking or letting me know before I picked it up. It was very awkward to wear and impossible to take off since it was so inflexible from the thickness. It cracked the first time I tried to take it off. I have now requested a modified Invisalign aligner for my top teeth. Initially when I requested the second Invisalign aligner, I was told they would cost me $125, or $250 for both the top and bottom. They are now trying to charge me $450 for these retainers. Basically, in addition to the stress of having to deal with their poor workmanship, they are charging me $450 for something that should really only cost $250. read more

A cursory glance through the internet yields a plethora of tems for fear of the dentist: dental phobia, odontophobia, dentophobia, dentist phobia, dental anxiety, etc. Getting your teeth cleaned is clearly not a highly prized recreational activity (for most, at least). I count myself as a severe dentophobe. Dr. Roca kindly scheduled a meeting with me to discuss my fears and the best way to overcome them. No work, no teeth scraping, no cleaning. Just a laid back conversation about how to serve me. He was extremely kind, understanding, and professional. He didn't wince or bat an eye at the advanced state of decay characterizing the majority of my teeth (again, severe dentophobe). He simply said told me what he was going to do, how long it would take, and that was it. I walked out of his office with a prescription and a smile on my face. I have now been to two sessions with the good doctor. As other yelpers have noted, his office is extremely clean and bright. Assistants are all in various combinations of attractive, smart, helpful, and positive. Dr. Roca provided me with wonderful headphones and Pandora radio to drown out the whEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEErrEEEUUUEEREEEAAUURmm. I cannot recommend his office highly enough. read more

I was recommended by my friend to Dr Roca. One of my front tooth got really dark because I had a root canal done about 4 years ago. I finally decided to get it fixed and went in for a consultation. The doctor was very nice and informative and just by looking at my tooth, he knew I had it done a few years ago. I set up my actual appointment and he had some high tech machine which took 3D images of my tooth and used a mold to to make my temporary and permanent crown. The temporary tooth looked exactly like my tooth and the permanent one was also perfect! There was a 2 week wait between my temporary tooth and crown and the temporary tooth did not bother me at all. The crow was at first too big but he filed it down perfectly and I LOVE my new smile! read more

Dr Roca Rocks! I woke up on Saturday morning with tooth pain that made me cry. I made an emergency appointment with a local dentist and after she took x-rays, she informed me that I needed a root canal and gave me a recommendation to see an orthodontist. I called , scheduled an appointment and asked what it would cost...$1850. It costs $1850 to do a root canal on a wisdom tooth? Really? I did what every smart person would do in a jam. I went on Yelp , found Dr Roca, called him and he answered the phone. WOW I told him what was wrong and he said he would take care of me the next morning at 8:30 (Sunday). What can I tell you, I love this father/son team. He extracted the tooth and the cost was very minimal. Having dental work done is not fun, but if you have to do it, go see them. read more

I'd been avoiding choosing a dentist in DC, but finally took the plunge and picked Dr. Roca randomly off the list of places my insurance covered. An excellent choice! The doctor is incredibly friendly, making conversation and explaining everything to you without expecting you to carry on a conversation when your mouth is wide open and he's scraping plaque off your teeth. The office earns another star for the technology they use during your exam. Now, I know a lot of people don't want to see their teeth or their x-rays, but I love this kind of stuff, so I was thrilled when he whipped my chart up on the large tv screen in the corner and proceeded to show me pictures of my teeth, where the plaque had built up, and explained why my permanent retainer didn't need to come out yet. Then we took x-rays, and he pulled those up on the screen as well, telling me exactly how they look for cavities and then pointing out the little ones I had on either side of my mouth. (first ones since childhood...that's what i get for not going to the dentist for two years!) They earned the third star for their flexibility. My first appointment was at 7 am, and I forgot about it until promptly at 7 when my calendar informed me i was supposed to be at the dentists. They took me anyway, at 7:30, and were very gracious about my complete lack of memory. Then, upon discovering I had cavities that needed to be filled and could only take an appointment before July 15, the receptionist rescheduled her daughter's appointment so that I could still get treatment while covered by my insurance. Above and beyond, and much appreciated. The last star is earned purely on a gut feeling. I liked them, they fixed my teeth, and they didn't hurt me while doing it. I'm sorry that i'll have to find a new dentist all over again when I move. The only reason they don't get 5 stars: I didn't get the nice little baggie at the end with the toothbrush and floss and stuff. but maybe that's because i was late. read more

I am pretty picky about dentists, I get weary when some of them behave more like used car salesmen than health care professions. Fortunately, Dr Adam. Roca was perfect. He made some helpful suggestions about dental health and had good "bedside manners" when I came in for a checkup and cleaning. I didn't feel he was trying to "sell me something". I can't recommend this dentist enough. I've been going here for four years, and this is the best dentist I've every had (currently in my late 30s). They always do a thorough job with their cleanings, and are sure to explain any procedures. They also have large TV screens where they show your X-rays and any problem spots. Everyone here is honest and I've never had an experience where the doctors have wanted to "pad the bill." I have been to dentists in the past who have purposely misdiagnosed me with cavities and periodontal disease in an effort to extract more money from me and my insurance company. We had an miscommunication over price that amounted to about $150, and Adam just shrugged it off and said "Yeah, we'll eat that cost". What a relief to find an office that treats customers that well. I'm not one who regularly writes reviews but I certainly want to make an exception in this case. I have to tell you, these people are simply fantastic!!! I'm not just talking about both dentist, I mean everyone! I feel like I'm getting really great care with this group. The place is clean with modern equipment. Both Dr. Roca's (father/son who've both worked on my teeth) are friendly, skilled, knowledgeable and their rates seem fair and reasonable. I really feel like I can trust them, and when money, teeth and dental tools are involved feeling like you can trust people really counts for a lot! You can tell that the staff enjoys working there too. That's always important to me because if the staff is unhappy that usually means it's trickling down from the top. But not here. There's just a good solid vibe all around. Carol, Melanie and Sandra are cool, fun and great at what they do! They certainly make you feel warmly welcomed during an otherwise potentially stressful time. The other people there seem nice also, I just haven't personally met them yet.
