So the last I heard this new ice cream shop was going to be taking over the old Lake George…read moreHardware Store location, but much to my surprise I discovered (thanks to a helpful sign in the window!) that Lake George Ice Cream has taken over some counter space across the street at Cafe Vero right on Canada St. We stopped in on a Wednesday evening in what was apparently an uncharacteristic lull in the line. There were only two people in front of us, and within a few minutes we were ordering. The serve Battenkill Valley Creamery ice cream here, which is pretty darn good stuff I must say. Apparently they also serve Cremewiches (don't call them Flying Saucers!) from Martha's Dandee Creme as well, which is a fantastic addition to any ice cream shop's menu. So we each tried a different flavor ice cream, and I got the PB sundae, which was absolutely amazing in spite of the owner apologizing profusely that he was out of whole peanuts and had to substitute peanut dust if that was okay with me. All of the products and ingredients there are top notch, and the server who I assume is also the owner does an amazing job engaging with each and every customer, carefully completes each order and keeps the line moving quickly. The nice thing about partnering with Cafe Vero means there is plenty of indoor seating available if you'd rather dine in, especially if you're eating after Vero closes. Remember how I mentioned an uncharacteristic lull? By the time the five of us got our orders, paid and made our way over to a booth, the line had extended out the door, which based on the quality and price of the product, I assume is a regular occurrence. It deserves to be. I've eaten at literally every ice cream joint up and down Canada Street and around to Million Dollar Beach, and this is the best stuff in town, hands down.

The first thing I saw was the balcony g coffee roaster and the smell of beans.. they have sandwiches, paninis ,and breakfast. I had a monte cristo and my sister had a grilled chicken with avocado. The service was a little slow but we spent the time watching the dog next door chase a squirrel. The food was good and generous for the price

There are about 4 million options for special soft serve --they blend them for you and since they can't be messing around with how much to blend for different sizes, the "custom blend options" come only in one size--medium which is huge! So so good. If you want a small or kid size, options are Dole Whip or vanilla or chocolate. You're on vacation, go for it! Sorry we waited so long to try. But instead of my regular chocolate cream or coconut cream pies, there was something new: Lemon Cheesecake. Now, I'm a huge fan of the Lemon Cheese Pie at Innovo Kitchen in Niskayuna, so I hesitated. It's not good to compare if it's probably not going to be the same, and you really want the other one. But I took the risk and was very pleased. The cheesecake was light and the lemon topping was tart. Not the same, but different and still delicious. I'll definitely have it again.

They sell (lots of) chips, soda, beer, news, (lots of) candy, fried chicken wings, nuggets, sandwiches and hard drinks. Broadway market is a tough kind of news and beer spot, tough meaning rough around the outside with not that much of food variety inside. There is ice for sale outside and a pretty large walk-in beer cooler. That said, I also found some pretty good deals on beer and seltzers for near-nothing. The staff kept asking each customer "did you order this pizza?" - "did you order this pizza?" - "did you order this pizza? - "did you order this pizza?" - that was funny. A pizza that got ordered by a mysterious caller. Staff has no interest to talk to a new customer, all they do is kiss rear to a bunch of greasy oil-heads installing crap in a nearby house. Hidden in the back of the Pine Cone Mercantile store, a business that shares both the address and…read morethe phone number, is a scratch bakery that specializes in artisanal breads. The loaves usually sell quickly, so it's best to show up early. My sister clued us in on the place and as we walked by shortly before they were closing at 4 pm on a Saturday in August, there was a tent sign outside showing a variety of breads crossed off and two remaining. Sure enough, there were not only just two flavors left in the display case, there were only two loaves. We purchased the sourdough with cherries and pecans. As we were paying for our purchase another customer came in and bought that last loaf. When we got back to my sister's house we sliced the bread to try it. It was absolutely delicious! I also understand that scones and croissants are made on the premises by the owners. My sister actually reserved some for pickup the following day. (Unfortunately, we will have left for home by then.) I did also spy a case with a variety of cheeses - next time. It's my understanding that this is a husband and wife operation. The husband makes the breads and the wife makes the scones and croissants. The wife is also responsible for the operation of the home furnishing store (Pine Cone Mercantile) that you will walk through to get to the bakery. Go ahead, just try to not be tempted to buy something in that store also as you pass through. Their Facebook page says they are open 10 am - 5 pm Thursday - Monday. However, they were closing at 4 pm the Saturday that we stopped in. I suggest calling them before going.
