Oh my word, this place is GREAT! We try to stop by when we pick up or drop off our daughter at Middlebury College. She also stated that this place is a fave for the students. Excellent huge sandwiches! My fam came up to visit Middlebury College and got a recommendation for lunch at Noonie's. Got Noonie's BLT, the Bernie Sanderswich and the Purple's Pleasure. All were excellent! The standout winner - the BREAD! Delicious whole wheat toasted made the sandwich. Bacon was crispy and great but the bread was the outstanding foundation of the sandwiches. So good that we decided to buy 2 loaves to bring home. The BLT was so satisfying - light but hearty at the same time. I won a gift card to this place during some sort of community discussion dinner in Atwater Dining Hall which prompted me to come by in person to receive my technically free food. This place has been a Middlebury College staple as far as I know. Catered lunches for various student activities often feature Noonie's signature sandwiches. I personally love Reuben sandwiches so the first thing I tried from Noonie's was the Reuben when I was undergoing training to be a first generation college student peer mentor. The Reuben was definitely a safe delicious decision, but the Purple's Pleasure is a Noonie's specialty and for some reason leaves me with a warm feeling. Something about a sandwich named after a color, and utilizing alliteration on top of that - I love catchy things like this. The avocado in it perhaps also speaks to me as a SoCal boy. Spring break of last year I went to eat-in with Omar, his then-girlfriend Vanessa, and Mehek. My sandwich was messy to eat but there were plenty of napkins available to save me. I got myself the Purple's Pleasure that day whereas Mehek got a Bernie Sanders-wich (Bernie 2020!!!!). The Bernie had a nice kick to it and I'll definitely have to get it myself the next time I order from Noonie's! Got to support the man! The most recent sandwich for me however was the Tyrion Lannister that was the result of a free trip to the Snow Bowl with the Newman Club. Newman offered to pay for our lunches and once again, the avocado fed my soul as well as the spicy buffalo dressing. I had the Purple (something... I keep thinking it purple passion, but it's not) and it was really really good! Smoked turkey, bacon (a lot!) cheese, avocado, jalapeños, lettuce and tomato, and gluten free bread! Then we took our sandwiches and ate on some boulders overlooking the falls about 50 yards away. I told the owner of the establishment that I was vaccinated and was curious why I would be required to wear a mask to order my food through a window outside of the restaurant (they do not allow patrons inside) . " I am fully vaccinated and I still wear a mask " so in my response I asked if they would refuse business because of there own personal beliefs . the owner then hung up on me rudely. I've been coming to Noonie's since I was a student at Middlebury College nearly 10 years ago. While visiting town last weekend, I stopped in to see if they still had Purple's Pleasure, my favorite sandwich on the menu from back in the day. Sure enough, they did! The ladies making sandwiches at the counter are some of the hardest working people in town and they always do it with a smile. It looks like their menu has expanded and every sandwich displayed on the new TV monitors sounded delicious. While I was tempted to try one of the new additions, I opted for the classic Purple's Pleasure: sliced turkey, bacon, red onions, avocado, jalapeno peppers, lettuce, melted cheddar cheese, and garlic basil mayonnaise. It is scrumptious and was a lot larger than I remember. This sandwich could easily feed two people. It's messy, so grab a few. If you're anywhere near Middlebury, VT you have to check out Noonie's. Not that the sandwiches at Noonie's Deli are out of this world, but sometimes the most memorable experiences come wrapped in plastic wrap. As a moderately priced sandwich shop, their offerings are just a small step up from some of the ordinary variety found at most take-out deli counters. And before there's any misconception about the amount of protein within each sandwich, the slices of meat were actually mounded in the middle which has a way of making it appear as if they're overstuffed. What made our meal extra special is that this eatery is located directly in the same lot as scenic Middlebury Falls which has ample lot parking and several picnic benches provided on the lawn for patrons to soak in the beautiful outdoors. For some reason, the ambience of the crisp fall day along with the waterfall thundering in the foreground, made our roast beef and corned beef sandwiches--both on gluten free sliced white bread with lettuce, tomato and house made garlic-basil mayo--so much tastier and satisfying. My hubby also ordered a cup of fresh made corn and shrimp chowder. One unsuspecting and unwanted nuance of the soup was the spicy after-burn. Why restaurants choose to limit their cuisine to a certain demographic, I will never understand. At least it would've been helpful to have had foreknowledge of the chili pepper kick in the recipe. I am absolutely disgusted -- I have been coming to Noonie's since 2006. As an alumnus of Middlebury College, it has been a staple of my experience and when I return to Vermont from NYC every year, it used to be an absolute must. I am SO HURT and disappointed to say, that things are not the same. My friends and I got up at 7 AM to drive to Vermont on a Friday to reach Middlebury at 2:30 so we could order sandwiches, before driving an hour south to Killington where our AirBnB was. We got there on time only to be turned away, scorned, ridiculed, and mocked. My girlfriends and I are all women of color and to experience such racism in such an accepting town was shocking. WE WERE DENIED SERVICE, multiple times, despite standing in line, despite getting there 30 minutes before closing, despite placing an order for 6 sandwiches. We were denied and people behind us were being served. Not only did they turn us away, they called the cops on us because we were trying to reason with them and literally begging for sandwiches we had driven hours for. It's not only that we were denied service, but the way in which the employees yelled at us, mocked us, and spoke to us. It breaks my heart, but as long as this owner is in charge of Noonies, I will never go back. Vermont and Middlebury are supposed to be shining beacons of what America can be -- accepting, progressive, and warm. With employees and businesses like this, it is clear they have much work to do in being such. read more

A friend of mine recommended this place to me last time I was in Vermont and I really had no time to go, but I wanted to make sure I got there this time. Man, oh man I am glad I did! The sandwiches here are HUGE and incredible! I don't know if they bake their bread or if someone else locally does, but it's definitely bread on steroids. But, it was wonderful. I got a sandwich called "The Vermonter". It was Black Forest Ham, Cabot White Cheddar Cheese, MacIntosh Apples and Honey Dijon Mustard. And I can tell you that I ate half of it for lunch there and I ate the other half for dinner that night. And both times, it filled me up. That's how big the sandwiches are. They have quite a large menu of sandwiches, and you can even make your own sandwich if you don't like their choices. They also had some good looking soup as well. The place is pretty small and I gotta think as good as the food is, that at peak lunch time, there is probably a wait. I got there just as they opened at 10am. So, I would encourage going there earlier or later for lunch, to be guaranteed to get a seat. Now, if I had one complaint, it is that it was extremely hard to find, and both my navigation system in my car and my phone GPS, were both leading me the wrong way. However, they are doing construction in Downtown Middlebury, and I don't think the GPS is taking that into consideration. If you're looking for it, just follow signs to the Marble Works Strip Center right by the downtown waterfalls and you will run into it. But if you're looking for an excellent sandwich in the Middlebury area, I definitely recommend coming here. You'll definitely get a great sandwich! read more
