Kanata Lakes Plaza is a newly developed plaza and as of my visit in March 2023, not all the…read morebusinesses in the plaza were open yet (e.g. Windbell Sushi). The anchor store is the second location of Kowloon Market (the first location is in Chinatown). This was a much anticipated opening in the area. There's also another location of Equator Coffee in this plaza. I think it's Equator's fifth location. There's also a Gong Cha there (Ottawa's third Gong Cha). There will be a few restaurants opening up here (not yet open during my visit): Crust & Crate, Wings Up Takeout, and the aforementioned Windbell Sushi. Other businesses in the plaza that I haven't mentioned yet (and are of little interest to me personally, lol) are: Chicco Optical, Friendly Cuts, Vitality Physiotherapy, Scholars, Haiyan Dance Studio, OYF Kanata (Yoga), I.D.A. Pharmacy, Groove Dental, Pawllywoof Pet Grooming and Helpful Neighbour Convenience Store. It's pretty much like any other suburban plaza, haha. Even though it's Stafford Shopping Centre, it's a plaza with a ton of parking. You can simply park and walk to the stores that you want to visit. I like the variety of stores, from Shoppers Drug Mart and Metro, to The Butchery and Vera's Burger. The latter two I have booked for reference to visit. I also learned that this plaza has a Quiznos. I haven't been to a Quiznos in ages. Markham as only one left. It's a cool plaza that I'd like to explore some more when I'm in the area. (292)

The vibe was cute too there's like a fire pit in the middle (even though it was sunny lol), music playing, and I swear I smelled mini donuts at one point with some bangers playing lol Also random tip but if you're signed up with Lindt you can get free chocolate bag for your birthday (and like up to 30 days after). It is not a shopping destination. It is a local mall that residents of Kanata go to to run errands. I think the stores keeping it alive are the grocery store (Your Independent Grocer) and the drug store (Rexall Pharma Plus). They had a Zellers once upon a time which became a Target which at the time of the writing of this review is now just space for lease. Many stores that sell fashions here are geared towards those in their 70s or older (Northern Reflections and Alia N Tanjay). For the younger generations they have Stitches and Claire's and for those in between, Reitmans and Naturalizer. So not exactly a fashionista's dream. The food court here is equally disappointing for foodies. It has a Subway, A&W and an independent teriyaki and sushi place aptly named Sushi Teriyaki (I found the food there acceptable, but not anything spectacular. It was on par with the larger chains like Teriyaki Experience). When I'm in Kanata, I may stop here for some groceries, as they tend to have some good sales at this location. This mall is in the suburbs, so lots of free parking!

No. It's an outdoor plaza presumably designed by those people who make those "can the mouse reach the cheese" games where there's a mouse on the left side, a bunch of squiggly lines in the middle, and a piece of cheese on the right side. You know what I'm talking about! There are parts of the parking lot where unexpectedly you hit a dead end. So if you entered this dead end looking for a parking spot and there are no empty spots you have to back out. Now it's relatively narrow, so IF none of the cars on either side are parked jutting out of their spots too much, AND you have a really tiny car, you MIGHT be able to 3-point turn your way out. Otherwise, you're backing out, and if 2 other cars followed you into this dead end, well guess what? You're going to have to communicate that you're not a bozo for backing up, but you have to back up because it's a dead end and there are no parking spots, and then you're all going to have to back out. I hardly ever go to any of the stores here because they don't really have anything special. They are all stores that are pretty much everywhere: Walmart, Chapters, LCBO, etc. The restaurants are mostly big chains like Boston Pizza, Montana's, Moxie's etc.. If you live in Kanata, I guess this is your local mall and so you go here. If you don't live in Kanata, I don't think there is a reason to make a special trip out here. If you happen to be in Kanata anyway (like visiting relatives, going to a work meeting, etc.) then I feel the only things worth checking out are restaurants here that don't have a branch anywhere else (e.g. Tomaso's Pizza, RARE Steak House, Aperitivo, etc.).

TL;DR/The Short Version: Ottawa's second T&T Supermarket…read more Smaller than the first, but still has lots of cool Asian products. The Long Version: This T&T Supermarket location is in Hazeldean Mall in Kanata. It's where the Laura's Your Independent Grocer used to be. It just opened at the end of October 2024. We went the beginning of November 2024 so it was still brand spanking new. I took my parents here to check it out and see how it compares with the other location on Hunt Club. Our consensus was this Kanata location is smaller with less selection than the original location. We were happy to visit and see what it's all about, but since the Hunt Club location is closer to us, we'll continue to go to that location instead. The bakery section at this Kanata location is much smaller, as is the prepared foods section. I also noticed that they use sesame seeds in a lot more of their sushi than the Hunt Club location. As someone who can't eat sesame seeds and can rarely buy prepackaged sushi, this made me sad. They have dim sum and Chinese BBQ and also an area to eat the food you purchase. It's good court style seating. I did notice their impressive selection of imported Lay's chips. Their selection was comparable to the other location in this regard. I doubt I will return unless I'm already in the area for another reason because it's far from my home and I rather go to the Hunt Club location, but I think it's great for Kanata residents. And it's breathing some much needed life into Hazeldean Mall. Lots of free parking in the mall parking lot. (200)

The inside of the store is clean, the lighting is good, there's a lot of parking & direct access by bus. The only negative I would give to this store is that the aisles are a bit on the smaller side, and I can see this getting really busy. I went on a Thursday, it wasn't too busy but I was still having to navigate around people and bumping into a few others. Also, if you are someone that likes making soups and stocks you can get chicken bones here for $1 per pound
