I worked primarily with John Chidsey, who has been in the car sales business for ages. He knows his cars. Having chronic illness and being a single woman looking for a car on my own, I was lost. The other places had crappy people skills, no car knowledge, and ..it wasn't good. I returned to Robert's Auto for John's help. We had connected well that first day, and it picked up from there. But it was *genuine*, relaxed, and with kindness. Coming back, I had also re-focused my specific buying needs and goals, and John was easily able to find me cars to choose from in those specs. John gave me Carfax reports and was up front about the car histories. He went with me on the 2 test drives (apparently some dealers don't?) which took us through various driving conditions. Moving ahead on the sale/purchase of the car I chose was simple. And not high pressure. I had wished I had had my Grandpa with me to buy a car, but really, without the age piece , it kind of was like having my Grandpa (sorry John, not an age thing!) pick out and help me with a new used car. It really felt like that. John did not "charm" me. He was kind. Kind. Very disappointed with service that I received from Roberts Auto Sales and would not recommend. I brought my Toyota Sienna to them to diagnose and repair a coolant leak. They determined it was coming from the water pump and charged me $1000 to fix the issue. I was comfortable paying this, as I was under the impression that Roberts Auto was an up-standing shop that would be able to take care of the issues with my vehicle. A day or so later, I noticed it was still leaking so I brought it back in to have them check it out. I was given a bit of a run-around as to the source of the leak this time and was asked to keep it topped up if I needed to drive the vehicle while the shop was on their Christmas/New Years holiday. I did as I was asked and made sure the vehicle was full of coolant every morning before starting the engine and driving. A few days after having them look at the failed repair, I was on the road and suddenly lost all coolant. After looking under the hood briefly, I also noticed that I there were missing brackets that secured parts of the wiring to the engine, which they did not re-install after the initial service. This was over their holiday, so I had the vehicle towed to their shop and it sat until they came back. When they came back and eventually looked at it, I was told that it needs another water pump. At this point I was told that management was unwilling to help me with the cost of any further repairs. At this point, I have given Roberts Auto $1000 and hours of my time, only for them to tell me that they need to do the same exact job again, and expected me to pay them for it again. To quote "Well, we can't do it for free, so I'm not really sure what you want from [us] at this point." Would NOT recommend Roberts Auto Sales for anyone looking to have service done. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH!!! They sold me a BMW for 12k and I have had to spend 2k so far and have only had it 4months. Not to mention the locks were changed at some point before I bought it so the additional key that I had to pay for will not work!!! 4 wheel bearings, springs, 3 alignments and 4 new tires because of rhe bad bearings and springs. Car broke down middle of the road. Couldn't drive it. Dan said bring it here....we will help you on the labor. Yeah he wanted to charge me as much as my mechanic. No break there!! I have contacted Robert's Auto Services three times over the past five months to honor their word to repair day one problems with my purchase of a 2010. VW Bettle. They will not get back to me even to share the cost of my fan repair. I originally gave Robert's a great review because they were great and stood behind what they sell. Today Rosie the Beetle has gotten a complete makeover. She is beautiful but is sad that Paul Robert's will not help to pay for the radiator fan that John his salesman indicated he would take care of. Yelpies; help us to get Robert's to at least share the cost of the fan replacement. In life, when things are up it is easy to look good. When things are down it is easy to hide and forget. Roberts is a diamond in the rough. One could easily drive past this place, but I am so glad that I didn't. Both YL and Johnny were very helpful and made buying my turbo Flex incredibly easy and hassle free. There was one problem with the vehicle (broken mirror) that they replaced quickly with OEM parts and no complaints. I am wicked happy with my ride and will be coming back in a few years for my next one. read more

Warning!!!! Bought Audi TT "high miles, but mint condition" - funny the car did not even make it home, and with brand spanking new State Inspection Sticker, BOGUS! Unfortunately, 2 certified shops 1 day later failed the car miserably, not even a question of the warranty. Transmission shot, Malfunctioning manifold - on the Inspection fail was 2 bald and cracked tires, broken tail light assembly, cracked serpentine belt and brakes all the way around failed (they were hanging off calipers!!!). Horrible loss to get it on the road again ($5,600) which Paul Roberts fails to feel accountable for, feel blessed I was not killed in it on the way home. NOT WORTH THE RISK I would advise your OWN Inspection at the very least - would not even consider bringing it back there for warranty after letting it leave the lot in that condition!!! read more

I'm broken hearted to write this, my son bought his car from Roberts in August, it was the only place we looked since we had been treated well there in the past. Since it was August it never occurred to us to try the heat, it's been chilly the last few days, so he turned on the heat to discover that it does not work. My husband spoke to the owner hoping to resolve the issue, he offered nothing. I think it is very bad business to sell a car in upstate NY with no heat, and even worse to offer nothing, pretty much telling us, too bad for you! Bought a truck that was sold as "mint" condition. Truck has been in an accident and patched up not reported to car fax. Needles to say I had multiple problems with this vehicle and ended up having to trade in for a $10k loss. I have had other family members who have bought vehicles from here that were nothing but headaches. I contacted them about a custom chopper I was interested in them, TOLD THEM I had financing and was looking to pick up the bike, but I had questions on the bike's condition, i.e. if it was inspection legal. If I could give this business a zero star review, I would. I personally wouldn't buy a wheelbarrow from these guys. They are incompetent, unprofessional, and unwilling to stand behind their product. My check engine light came on 2 days after purchase, and I have been having problems since. The warranty is a joke -- It needs to go to the dealer (Roberts), and they will only cover what they "feel" is covered regardless of what the powertrain warranty says. Their mechanic also damaged my vehicle and it took multiple attempts to repair one issue. FURTHER, be advised that they ONLY buy other dealer's trade-ins. That means, at least in my case, I BOUGHT SOMEBODY ELSE'S PROBLEM. Bottom line -- There are many dealers. I would stick to either large dealerships or small (ONE OWNER-PERSONAL) dealers. Otherwise, you may end up in my unfortunate situation, with the business telling me to "go (bleep) myself, they are done doing business with me, and to never call their shop again." read more

If you have a problem with the service he will correct it. He use to work for Ford but runs his own shop and does the performance duties that Ford will greatly over charge you for. Shopping alone for a car as a woman can be a very intimidating experience. YL and Johnny at Roberts Auto took the fear and worry out of my experience as much as is humanly possible. I did a lot of research on my own before buying my 2012 VW Beetle (turbo, loaded with premium sound, navigation system, and a sunroof). I used cars.com to find out what options were available on the VW Beetle I was shopping for, then I used the online NADA guide (nadaguides.com) to determine the right price for the car I was buying. Their price was fair, they handled the financing (getting me approved at a VERY low APR with a teeny tiny down payment), AND they calmed my nerves. DO NOT BUY FROM ROBERTS AUTO. My boyfriend originally purchased his BMW from here in March. Within his first week of having it the inside car handle snapped right off and it was clear that it had been superglued on previously. Fast forward a no more then three weeks and his tire sensors all came on, both front tires has to be replaced and a warning display on the dashboard that his brakes needed to be replaced. With every issue that occurred, John, the original salesman chose to ignore texts and phone calls relating to problems with the car. The car had to be taken to multiple car shops due to the front rights lug nut being stripped and what seemed to be impossible to get off. Two weeks after he paid to get these issues fixed because Roberts Auto wouldn't cover them due to it not being under warranty even though the car was purchased within 60 days, now his module needs to be replaced, which he has been waiting for over a month for and still hasn't received a call saying that the part is in, so none of his right side lights work. I bought my Mercedes Benz from them in April. Within a week of having my car the check engine light came on, a week after, my module had to be replaced as well. This took a month to get done and was only done due to me constantly calling Harry at the body shop because no matter how many times you're promised a call back you will NEVER receive one. After the module was replaced, every tire sensor on my car came on as well and when I showed up at Harry's shop he didn't look at it all he said was, "it's the weather." About two weeks later ANOTHER light showed up on my dashboard and when I brought it to Harry yet again he said, "I don't know what that means I'll look it up and get back to you." After three weeks of multiple calls with no call back and stopping in to have Harry tell me, "he forgot and he'll call me" I showed up yet again this time very upset for Harry to say, "I don't know why you're mad at me I'm doing this as a favor and I can't do it." These cars are sold with many issues and they do not want to fix it or help you once it's bought. I will NEVER buy from here again and suggest nobody else does either unless you want to put your own money into fixing it every few weeks. I ended up doing a form through the attorney general due to the fact of nobody at Robert's Auto wanting to help me with a car that was purchased through them and had numerous issues within less then 90 days of having it. Roberts Auto Sales sold my son a 2008 GMC Canyon that had a bent frame. At first we did not know the frame was bent,this truck was sold to him as a one owner low millage vehicle.The truck had 95000 miles on it when he purchased it,they say the truck has a 12 month warranty but they do not stand behind any of it.Two week after my son bought the truck it was hit by a heavy trailer when parked on a job site. The truck had some damage to the right side rear of the bed we also noticed the truck was leaning to one side.We brought it to a body shop and they put it on a frame machine and it detected the frame was bent.We got a hold of the at fault persons insurance company and the adjuster looked the truck over and he determined this damage could not have happened in this accident because the bend is opposite of the impact. We thought it had to have happened in this accident because we were never told the vehicle was in a rear accident. We got our insurance company involved they had the box removed and confirmed the vehicle was hit in the rear and damage that was covered up.We asked Roberts for a car fax they gave us one which said this truck was in three accidents which they did not disclose.We asked them to take the vehicle back but Paul said your warranty is up you only have thirty days or 1000 miles.When we discovered the frame damage the truck had less then 100,000 miles so it could fall under the lemon law but this is really fraud. Johnny at Roberts led my son to believe they would take the truck back and return the Ford Ranger he traded in.This deal fell apart now they have this 1999 Ranger on the lot for 4800 that my son paid 1400 last year it really belongs in the junk yard .Then my son told then to keep the Ranger but take back the truck ,Johnny told him to call the bank to authorize a 10 day buy back.Next he told my son he would get him a different truck and take this one back.On Wednesday 6/26 my son merged me in on the call and he asked Johnny what his intent was and he told my son he was trying to locate a truck for him and he would not be saying this if he did not mean it .They never follow through with anything here we filed a complaint with the Attorney General and the Commissioner of Motor Vehicles and the Better Business Bureau.The law seems to protect these dealers more than the consumer.If any one reading this review knows of attorney or any one that has away around this mess let me know.This truck purchase was suppose to be a way to teach my young adult son responsibility but has caused nothing but grief and frustration.If you ever thought about buying a vehicle from these people think again . I see a lot of people in my line of work I will make sure I tell as many that will listen . read more

bought a truck with 58,000 miles on it, of course they really suggest that you spend the additional money for the extended warranty, so after 5 days of owning the car, the fuel pump goes bad, Roberts tells me that they don't have a warranty on trucks, so I have to use the extended warranty, what a nightmare they are, took them 4 days to pay the service shop who became angry, now after a few more weeks, the electric window on the driver side doesn't go up, yep Roberts says not there problem, so out of pocket over 400 dollars for the new window motor, warranty company wont cover that, so we move ahead a month of so, buy now I have driven the truck 1,800 miles and the engine dies, Roberts says, sorry, not my problem, warranty company refuses to pay for it unless I spend $2,100 to have the engine torn down so that they can come out to the repair shop in a week or so to see what was wrong, I just had to pay a $3,000 fee for the new motor to the repair shop and after the new engine is installed I have to pay the over $2,800. Roberts is a disgusting place, I never should have bought anything from them, SAVE your money, don't walk away from Roberts RUN AWAY, Paul Roberts is a scammer and dishonest. read more

The salesman was dishonest by telling me the car I purchased had bluetooth, and when I went to hook up my phone to the car, it would not work. I called Chrysler and they told me that the car was never equipped with Bluetooth. When I went back to the dealer to discuss installing bluetooth, I was told I had to pay $500 of my own money. the salesman lied to me in the beginning when I asked him point blank if the car was equipped with Bluetooth, he told me of course. Sold me a car with a rotted frame. Cracked within the warranty time. Instead of making things right, i.e. trading it for a safe car of equal value, etc, they had welded it and gave it back. Needless to say, multiples trips to other mechanics to try and get my money's worth out of it, it lasted 8 months and had to be taken off the road due to not being able to pass inspection. It should've never passed in the first place. And I'm still stuck paying off the loan. They are complete rip off artists. I would give minus stars if possible. Robert's auto is dishonest and sells unreliable cars. The car was sold with a broken exhaust and needed a $900 repair two days after purchase. The burnt out light they agreed to fix when I purchased it was never fixed. When I called them, they said the light was replaced. Within the first year of ownership, the low mileage car has needed over $4,000 worth of repairs and premature maintenance. Their warranty covers almost nothing. Out of the $4,000, they would only cover $38 worth of repairs. read more

I bought my 2001 Cadillac Deville from Robert's in February 2015. Since then, I have had to bring my car to their repair facility D&S Auto in COHOES (resident of Schenectady, work in Albany) 4 times! They have told me repeatedly there is nothing wrong with the car, but I get notifications that my coolant is low (couldn't remove the coolant cap to check myself because it's jammed, but they assured me I'm wrong and the coolant is fine) so I finally manage to get the coolant cover off, and go figure, the coolant is low. My windshield wipers didn't even work less than 12 hours after getting the car, a valve stem was broken on a tire causing a slow leak that prevented the tire from taking any air when I tried to reinflate it, and there was NO OIL in my vehicle. I managed to convince them that it's not in my head after the third visit and they finally repaired the coolant issue and windshield wipers. Pictures of the car notifications and video were necessary. I added oil myself, because why would my car I just purchased bother having the necessary oil it needs? Not long after all those issues, my check engine light goes on and the car's RPM's start going nuts while idling in park (video of this as well). I bring it back to D&S again (because it's not being paid for by me if I go there, and only there) where they say they fixed the check engine issue and I should be all set. Go to today (just picked the car up yesterday for the engine issues) and on my 20 minute drive to work, shocker! THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES BACK ON! I am not happy with this dealership, with it's mechanic, with it's flippant attitude toward the issues on this car, and with their customer service. I shouldn't have to bring my vehicle back in to their mechanic for the 5th time since purchasing this car 2 months ago. I never recommend anyone ever go to this dealership unless it's the only one left open, ever. I doubt that will ever happen, so if you do choose to go here... I warned you. read more

I recently traded in my Nissan Altima 2008 for a Nissan Murano 2007, we needed more room for our growing family. I have to say, my experience at Roberts was exceptional. They happened to be the first lot we stopped at to shop in person on the recommendation of a friend, and it was quickly clear that it was going to be our last. Selling points: 1) Easy to shop and UP-TO-DATE online inventory listing. Had all the pertinent information for each car listed, and lots of photos in the cases of car makes we weren't familiar with. Some of the other places we were browsing on-line would have inventory listed that upon calling the next day would turn up as already sold 4-5 days prior. 2) Honest and straight-forward! Brett Torre, the gentleman who helped us was able to advise us on directions to go in considering what kind of car we were looking for and what price range we were looking for it in from the get-go. And then he gave us room to look around and do some research ourselves without pushing the issue! Originally we started looking for a Jeep Liberty but after considering what was available and what we could afford, it turned out of course that he was totally correct on how we changed our minds. 3) Trade in was easy. I've never traded in before but after doing some research online it seemed like we were going to have to spend the money to basically get the car detailed like a new car. Nope! Brett was able to see it, see it for what it was, and appraise it appropriately. 4) Very happy with the new Nissan Murano. Happy with the price we paid for it, how the car's use has panned out, and our overall experience with the purchasing stuff at the end of the deal. I literally was able to use ID stuff that I already had on my person to put the deposit down, showed up with stuff for insurance and DMV switches on the day of pick-up, and was ready to go! If you know what you're doing with car sales/value/mechanics/etc then maybe these points don't really matter as much to you. But if you're not (like me), these attributes were INVALUABLE. It turned what I was expecting to be a grueling at least 2 week search into a two-day experience. That in conjunction with not feeling skeeved out and or unsure if I was being taken advantage of and I feel that Roberts Auto Services are really a gem. read more

This place doesn't even deserve 1 star!! HORRIFIC... and I can't express that enough. The day we drove the car off the lot, it ended up being towed to a garage of their choice, for 1.5 months for Engine and electrical issues. The owner of the garage bluntly told us, he would not work on the car, it was garbage and had way to many issues for him. They towed it to a lisc dealer for repairs after some battling, another 2 weeks. By this point we called Roberts 20+ times for resolution / a new car or our money back, under lemon laws. They gave us a run around and then wouldn't return our calls. We started Lemon Law paper work, spoke w/ Attorney Generals office and had to contact our attorney for resolution. read more
