I was I offered caffeinated beverages and sparking water right away, and the room was filled with bubbly conversation making it feel like a little community. I was very pleased when he opened his own salon because I knew that he would insist on providing up-to-date services from a friendly, welcoming staff, I have not been disappointed. I have never left without being completely satisfied with my hair cut and color. It has also always been enjoyable. I can't imagine going any where else. I called the salon the morning of for a new look and they were able to get me in that day. Alisa L cut & colored my hair and did an amazing job! I've only had my colored a few times at other salons and the hairdressers at those salons did not do quite what I had asked for, but Alisa looked at my picture inspiration, explained how she'd do that for me, and reassured me that it could be done...and it was. I have been a long time client of the magnificent Robert Jason Salon and have never been happier! I sing their praises constantly and refer anyone and everyone to them. So, when i learned that Robert was opening up the Robert Jason beauty bar I was ecstatic! I counted the days til they opened in April and was probably one of the first through the door! As soon as you walk in you're immediately transported to an oasis! I completely forgot that I was smack dab in the middle of the hustle and bustle of Main St Andover! The wallpaper alone will make you feel your are far from it all with colorful Palm leaves, whirling ceiling fan, great music and comfortable seating! The nail technicians are top notch! So professional, talented and fun to talk to. I look forward to each and every-time i walk through that door! Helen is simply the best. I recently moved back to Andover after being in SF for 4 years. In SF I had a hairdresser who I absolutely LOVED - and let's get real - once you find a hairdresser you love-- you would be willing to do anything to keep the relationship! For a second I thought "could I make a monthly trip out to SF just to get my hair done?" but the rational side of myself kicked in and said absolutely not - ha. Needless to say - I went to a few salons in downtown Andover only to be disappointed with style and service. That is when a friend suggested I go see Helen at Robert Jason. My first experience with Helen was lovely - she listened to what I had to say and made suggestions that she felt would be best for my hair. I also recently became very passionate about toxic free beauty - and I had found a hair color line that I wanted to use. Since it was professional use only - Helen had to call and order it on my behalf. Where most salons might not want to do this for their clients - Helen and Robert (the owner) graciously granted my request. Also - I have long hair - down to my derriere (ha!) - and I've always been paranoid because stylists love to CHOP off a ton at once when I simply want a "trim" - not the case with Helen-- she takes just enough off the lengths to keep my hair thick and healthy but not too much at all. To state from the outset, I had a bad experience here. Not a bad outcome, my appointments yielded good results, but the owners attitude is just too much to be believed. I had been going there for years/ In this time I saw several staff, whenever one of the staff seemed to get too much of their own following.... poof gone. When it became a choice between Robert or "the newbies" I started seeing Robert. Despite the painful attitude, he did a nice job. But OMG you need earplugs. He is just so full of himself. He treats his staff like dogs. Eventually he started treating me like a dog. I just do not understand how the place gets 4 stars. Robert, I also noticed that you challenge all negative reviews. But they all basically say the same thing... It's probably worth some reflection. read more

I'm surprised by all of the positive posts for Robert Jason Salon. I went there several times within the first year it opened, but haven't been back. I tried it because it was local and reminded me of my old salon in Acton -- which I learned was because the same designer fashioned both interiors. While I liked the cuts that Robert (called "Bobby" back then) gave me, I was dissatisfied with one of his color treatments -- moreover, his response to it. I had cautioned Robert that my hair had not responded well to color in the past. He assured me that his products were of the highest quality, that he did not share my concern, and that my "mousey brown hair," as he called it, needed a boost. I agreed to proceed with his recommendation and let go of my concern. While the treatment resulted in a fabulous hue, it left my hair dry and brittle. When I went back a couple weeks later to show Robert what I was dealing with and ask what I could do to resolve it, he looked me straight in the eyes and said, "A baseball cap would work!" He chuckled aloud, as did the minions surrounding him. I, on the other hand, did not. What upset me most was not the state of my hair, but Robert's cavalier and thoughtless response. It showed me that while he may have the talent to give a good cut, he doesn't have the maturity to deserve my business. read more

So let me start this off by saying that I am kind of a men's haircut snob. I frequent salons looking for a good haircut and have been to most of what Andover has to offer. Robert Jason is BY FAR the best place around. The folks at the front were very friendly, I was welcomed and felt right at home. They offered a drink and I had a seat for about a minute before I was greeted by the person who washed my hair. She was incredibly friendly and passed me off to my stylist Stefanie. Stefanie gave me without a doubt the best haircut I have had in ages. She was very thorough, made sure that we agreed on what the final product would look like and then started working. She was super friendly we had a great conversation and at the end, I looked in the mirror to see this absolutely fantastic haircut. We live in NH, however the reviews are what brought me here, and I'm so happy they did! I got a foil, glaze, cut, wash and style with Robert. My first impression of the salon was it's very hip, clean and the decor is gorgeous. The staff was super friendly! Robert was fantastic! I love my hair color and cut so much!! When I get ready now I'm not stressed as my cut flows beautifully! I felt like I was in a reality tv show for a makeover. My mom happened to get a coupon for Robert Jason Salon and tried it out. She loved it. They gave her a "refer a friend" card, and so she gave it to me. I'm always nervous about haircuts since the disastrous cut of 2006 that left me in tears. But, Robert Jason was a welcome relief. Super friendly staff, great vibe and music, and sleek design. Though it was super modern, I felt comfortable. It didn't feel stuffy. I was worried I was not trendy enough to be there, but that was not the case. The haircut was exactly what I wanted. I remember window shopping my way through to learn my new neighborhood and seeing this eye catching, attractive salon right in the heart of it all. My only regret is waiting this long to finally experience Robert Jason salon. My five star review begins the minute my call was answered with a smile to book. The excitement felt on the other end when I shared I would be a new client and the sense of urgency to fit me in with the next available appointment when it worked with my schedule. Lucky for me it was next day at 8am! The luck continued when I was paired with Tracey to give me the hair rescue I needed today. I immediately felt comfortable sharing what I wanted and leaving it up to her. She was so sweet, welcoming and fun, making it obvious I was in good hands. Mikayla is amazing! Yesterday was my first time to the Robert Jason Salon. The salon was amazingly clean and beautiful. I was greeted at the front desk by a friendly receptionist. Upon meeting Mikayla I was given a tour of the salon and introduced to all its employees, including the salon owner. It was almost like they were welcoming me into their house. Mikayla gave me highlights and a cut. She did a great job with the color. Her foils left my hair looking like natural highlights vs the chunky highlights I have received from other salons. She used several different techniques (that I had never seen before) to cut my hair. My hair looks great thanks and I cant wait to go back. read more

The stylist did a good job at getting close to my scalp for highlights but I was exceedingly disappointed at the salon's lack of consultative skills. My first cut there is best described as a "drive-by" not a hair cut. To their credit, I went back a couple of times to correct the cut, but !! I should not have to bring in a picture from a glossy magazine to have a consult prior to a cut with a new stylist/salon. Incidentally, I had my hair cut on Newbury Street for 7 years without this issue. The cut is certainly better now, but after significant follow-up. Front desk is great. Staff friendly. read more
