I hired Robert Huddy to design my $150k add-on to my house here in Studio City. Initially, Robert seemed interested in the project, so I hired him. Robert immediately asked for a sizeable payment, and two weeks later for another sizeable payment. After producing no work, he asked for another payment. When I refused, he said he needed the payment to pay the structural engineer. So, we agreed I would pay half. At that point, I had paid $9,600 of the $12,000 project cost. I told him I would make no more payments until he finished the project. He agreed. However, after getting all those payments, he did absolutely nothing on the project. After three months, he has produced absolutely nothing, no work product, no documents, nothing! Also, he is extremely unresponsive, as he won't return my calls, e-mails, or texts. When I threatened to file a claim with the Architect's Board, he finally sent me an e-mail. However, since then he has been completely unresponsive. So, I filed a claim with the Architect's Board. In my opinion, Robert is a disgrace to his profession.
By the way, there is one other point I would like to make. Robert claimed that I could pay $10,000 to avoid the rules of the Hillside ordinance (I called it the Hillside ordinance bribe). He asked me repeatedly for the money, but I refused. He even asked even though it looked like the house would satisfy the requirements for the Hillside ordinance. I suspect that he might have been lying about that Hillside ordinance bribe, possible to extract more money from me. If he wasn't lying, then he is completely unprofessional, as a good architect would never recommend paying such a large sum to avoid complying with rules with which you're already in compliance.
I'll provide you more updates as I progress with the Architect's Board. read more
