I've been job hunting for 3 months, applying everywhere, following up, doing all the right things…read more I have great skills, and interviewers say they're impressed with my resume... Yet I keep getting ghosted left and right. Just as I'd had enough, Ajilon noticed me and called. It was a breath of fresh air! They matched me up with a job that fits my skills and even teaches me something a little new, all without lowballing me on pay. I'm hopeful it will be more than temporary, but even if it's not, the skills and experience I'll gain should help when it comes time to job hunt again. And maybe there'll be less competition by then. It's incredible how many of us lost our jobs with COVID.

Let me make this review more of a story for you. So I applied to Ajilon Professional Staffing…read moreagency's ad for "Temporary Marketing Professionals positions, 3-6 month contracts". I was overcome with enjoyment because this would be PERFECT for me, considering the fact that I am a military spouse and we will only be here temporarily. The next day I got a call saying they'd love for me to come in to meet them and talk further about what I'm looking for and about my background, work history and what not. So the day after that, I went in at 10:30 to meet with the woman that called me. There I was, in my black slacks and white blouse, ready for my interview like, meeting. She sits there with me for about 10-15 minutes and is TOTALLY uninterested in what I have to say. I don't even think she looked at my resume that I handed her once. Then after not really giving me any information, just saying "yeah" and "ok" the whole time, she says, "Look, unless you're open to anything other than marketing positions then we don't have anything available for you at this time." She goes on, "I'm going to talk to a few of my colleagues because we all work with different companies, so, maybe they will have something for you." Then this gentleman comes in. Same story. Worse social skills. He was texting THE. WHOLE. TIME. I was talking and finally says, "What about receptionist, or administrative assistant work?" (I'm sorry, but was I not there to talk about "Marketing Jobs"?? At this point I felt like an alien from another planet) I said, "It's not my first choice because I'd really like to stay within my field. The most I'd be willing to try would be human resources, or maybe writing and editing." He then says, "How soon could you start?" I said, "Oh man! Probably as early as next Tuesday!" (It was Thursday the week before) He says, "What about today... like.... right now?" (I thought he was joking, you know, the way people will say "lets get together soon" but they really don't have anything in particular in mind, and you both kind of know it will never happen? Yeah, same kind of vibes going on here) I reply, "Well, I'm not sure, I wasn't planning on this, and I have to let my dog out.." At this point, he literally doesn't say a word and hands me a packet to fill out for my taxes. He then says that there's a company downstairs (I'm in this big corporate building) that has a temp position. I'm so excited at this point thinking I'll be working in marketing! (Please keep in mind, the old saying, "When something seems to good to be true, it most likely is.") We go down in the elevator and then we are standing at the entrance to this office and he says, "So, long story short, their receptionist quit last week, and the owners assistant has been filling in, but she is out for the next couple weeks, so they're really in a bind. And, for lack of a better term, all they're looking for is a WARM BODY to cover the front desk.." I literally think I choked on my spit at this point, and I also might have blacked out. I said "Soooo all I would be is a warm body?" He could tell I was not amused. Hopeful that maybe it will pay well and I can make some decent money in the coming weeks, I enter said business. (Again, refer to quote above about things being too good to be true) So, I meet the Director of Human resources and he explains what I'll be doing.. Here goes.. My job is to refill the coffee, plates and plastic-ware when it runs low in the break room. When I'm not doing those stimulating tasks, I am simply sitting at the front desk waiting for someone, anyone, to walk up and need me to push this button to unlock the front doors. WHA LA.. That's it. Best part, I'm not making that "great pay" I suspected. (I actually made almost double at my college INTERNSHIP) I understand people might be critical because "it's a job" and if positions that simply require a "warm body" are something that entice you, then by all means, proceed with working with this company. But if you're looking for something stimulating to your noggin, or say, something that will actually use your college degree, then carry on your job hunt on your own. You're bound to have more success that way. Until then, I'll be whipping up coffee and making sure they're fully stocked on paper cups.

Teksystems is the absolute worst place to work. They had a contract they hired me on. Zach Whitacre…read morewas helpful and very responsive with trying to fulfill this position. I absolutely loved working with him and his tenacity to get me the position was unparalleled. Even called me back drunk at his college homecoming to assure me he was on the job. That's where the good work ended. Mallory Myers his account manager was awful. So was Zach when it came to any issues or conducting any kind of fair business treatment. They swear by their employees to fill the spot but throw you away at the first sign of you needing them to investigate or help you. I was told by the client that I was to work 4 days a week. To have Friday's off so I stayed home Friday as instructed per my manager. I suppose she didn't relay that information to her boss. So he called and told Mallory that I didn't show up to work after 4 days? Why the hell would I do that my fifth day unless otherwise told. I even spoke to Zach and told him before all of this about my new schedule. I then got a call asking if I talked to my manger about my past. Something that happened 20 years ago. I said yes Thursday afternoon we were on our way back from Charlottesville to Harrisonburg after work hours talking about her son and how he had gotten in trouble. I told her not to worry and his life isn't ruined. That I had a past with some issues in it including a felony but if enough time goes by and he stayed out of trouble that his good work and accomplishments would overshadow his felony. That we all mess up and it's how we come back from it is what counts. She then said that me telling her about my past off of work property and off of work hours was a problem and that Fonda Shifflett did not talk to her boss about my schedule and that I was to be I was not to come back to work Monday as agreed upon with my Manager Fonda Shifflett. They did not investigate nor did they use any common sense in this. Why would I do that if I wasn't told to work 4 10s? Why would I do that after 4 days of work. I made good money and have a wife and 4 kids. Why would I call and tell Zach Whitacre that Fonda Shifflett has changed my schedule if it didn't happen. I didn't even have my login credentials yet to get on the network. After I explained all of this Mallory then said my work performance wasn't up to snuff and that was the reason. If that was remotely true then how did I do sub par performance on SharePoint when I didn't have access to the customers or clients SharePoint site? They were searching for any reason to do me wrong and to back their client without any real reason. I filed for unemployment so I could keep my home and heat on this winter and they denied it telling the unemployment office I quit. I bet Zach and Mallory have a good Christmas in their warm and cute apartments or houses while me and my children have the worst Christmas and winter ever in our lives. All because they didn't do the right thing. All because they are more concerned with saving and making a dollar. I hate this company. I hate they are behind such discussing practices and peoples in their employ. Do not work with them. Go with their competition. They are the worst and not the only head hunter or temp service out there.
