I completely understand the need for recruiters to ask direct questions and provide constructive feedback, and I genuinely value that perspective as someone who also interviews and hires people. However, I felt that some of the feedback was delivered in a way that came across as condescending, particularly given that this was my first interaction with the recruiter and we had no prior relationship. As someone who is potentially looking to transition into a new industry, I was hoping to feel encouraged and supported in understanding how my transferable skills could translate into other opportunities. Unfortunately, this interaction did not leave me feeling particularly confident about continuing to work with Beacon Hill or using the agency as a resource in my job search. I believe constructive feedback can be extremely valuable, but the delivery and overall candidate experience matter, especially when someone is navigating a career transition.

Things were going fairly well at the second company where Randstad placed me, until one day my boss OD'd on his Crazy Flakes and became domineering and abusive. It was really, really bad. "I haven't done anything wrong! My boss is psycho! I saw his head spin around 360 degrees!" (It could happen.) "Sometimes we have to do unpleasant things to placate people." After that, I waited about ten minutes wondering if someone was going to come get me or if I should notify someone it was over. I figured that they mustve shown this video plenty of times and should know how long it takes to end, but I guess not. I decided to go tell the lady I was interviewing with that it was over. Someone intercepted me on the way there and said, 'Oh, is it over? I'll get her for you.' So, I returned to my seat, expecting someone to come in promptly for the actual interview...but no. I waited another ten minutes. Finally, the woman comes in and does a standard staffing agency 'interview' where they ask what kind of work you're interested in and then give you a ten minute speech about their agency. I then heard nothing from them for about three weeks, until recently, when another woman (not the one who interviewed me) called me with a decent sounding assignment. She's great, but the rest of my experience has not been, so... one star.
