In the end, I found a permanent position on my own, but I was so happy that Manning was there to give me options along the way!

I recently had a phone screening with a recruiter regarding an operations position. While I…read moreappreciated her willingness to discuss my background and her offer to meet virtually to review my résumé and help identify opportunities that may be a good fit, I found the overall communication style during the screening to be unnecessarily blunt and, at times, discourteous. I completely understand the need for recruiters to ask direct questions and provide constructive feedback, and I genuinely value that perspective as someone who also interviews and hires people. However, I felt that some of the feedback was delivered in a way that came across as condescending, particularly given that this was my first interaction with the recruiter and we had no prior relationship. As someone who is potentially looking to transition into a new industry, I was hoping to feel encouraged and supported in understanding how my transferable skills could translate into other opportunities. Unfortunately, this interaction did not leave me feeling particularly confident about continuing to work with Beacon Hill or using the agency as a resource in my job search. I believe constructive feedback can be extremely valuable, but the delivery and overall candidate experience matter, especially when someone is navigating a career transition.

Hmm. Randstad found…read moreme a decent, if low paying job the first time around, but they kind of left me high and dry on the next gig. Things were going fairly well at the second company where Randstad placed me, until one day my boss OD'd on his Crazy Flakes and became domineering and abusive. It was really, really bad. Like something snapped. I called Randstad, asking them to move me immediately. My rep wasn't having it. "Why don't you just go back in and apologize?" she suggested meekly. "What?" I sputtered. "I haven't done anything wrong! My boss is psycho! I saw his head spin around 360 degrees!" (It could happen.) "Sometimes we have to do unpleasant things to placate people." "I don't want to placate him. I WANT TO LEAVE." In the end, she insisted I apologize and refused to place me elsewhere. I didn't last very long with that job, and I certainly left Randstad right after. One star for finding me the first job. Another star for leaving me with a bizarre story to tell on Yelp.

She looked a little confused when I said I had an interview and then directed me to the woman who I was supposed to be meeting with...who was also sitting in that room and failed to acknowledge me until her counterpart called her name. Anyway, after that, I got stuck in a room watching a juvenile safety video with common sense facts about job safety. After that, I waited about ten minutes wondering if someone was going to come get me or if I should notify someone it was over. I figured that they mustve shown this video plenty of times and should know how long it takes to end, but I guess not. I decided to go tell the lady I was interviewing with that it was over. Someone intercepted me on the way there and said, 'Oh, is it over? I'll get her for you.' So, I returned to my seat, expecting someone to come in promptly for the actual interview...but no. I waited another ten minutes. Finally, the woman comes in and does a standard staffing agency 'interview' where they ask what kind of work you're interested in and then give you a ten minute speech about their agency. I then heard nothing from them for about three weeks, until recently, when another woman (not the one who interviewed me) called me with a decent sounding assignment. She's great, but the rest of my experience has not been, so... one star.

I chose this location after bumping into a pal who was on a long term assignment that he loved. He spoke highly of the company and he really liked his recruiter. I started the next day, and have been on the assignment for over 8 months now. Everything is centralized and automated with Office Team. I've never had a pay issue, never had ANY issues actually, and I've only been to the office that first time. Perfect! Staff is super responsive to email and phone calls, with follow-up in less than 2 hours. With that said...this place was alright. My initial interview was interesting to say the least. The gentleman/recruiter named Gus P. who spoke with me told me he had the perfect job lined up for me. He told me that based on my resume and phone screen I would have the job-he gave me a start date, I just had to come in and fill out paperwork. When I arrived he stepped into the reception area and called my name (which is an Irish name-I'm not Irish though), then approached a Caucasian woman and shook her hand. I said "no I'm _________". He looked me up and down with disgust and told me to follow him. Then he told me that I was not a good match for the job and that he would look for other work for me...after already telling me I had the job and had given me a start date. He never called me back. I called the office weekly. Three weeks later a different recruiter called me Valerie C. I told her that I only wanted temp to perm work. I guess I let her convince me to take a temp job because I was desperate for work. The company I worked for was amazing. Although they never told me when my last day was, just that they weren't going to keep me. I advised my new recruiter of this because I wanted to find a new job ASAP. She never replied. I started working with a new agency and found placement. I informed her of that via phone and e-mail...no response. They only got 2 stars because the job I got was great and I made great contacts there. Plus the payroll department is amazing. You get paid direct deposit the same week you start working. Oh and no one helped me with my resume. The new temp agency gave me great feedback on it, and now it looks even better. That company is Hollister. I am going to give them a few more weeks to see how they do before leaving them a review.
