First of all, Tom and Desiree are two of the nicest people you will ever meet in the wine country. They invite you into their home, share food and wine and tell wonderful stories. We plan for 90 minutes and always end up staying longer - sorry Tom and Desiree but time goes by quick when you are enjoying yourselves. The winery makes a Howell Mt Cab and a Rutherford Sauvignon Blanc. The Cab is huge and you can taste Howell Mt in every sip. The Sauvignon Blanc has all the qualities of a superior white but at an affordable price point. Truth be known, both wines are priced less than their peers. Tom states he charges less because he wants to treat people like he would want to be treated. Red Cap Vineyards is by far one of the best finds in all of Napa. We have visited most of the wineries in Napa and this one is hard to top. When it comes down to it, it is the people behind the wine that makes the visit special. These two have vested their lives into Red Cap Vineyards. Your visit will be special and you will walk away feeling like you are part of the Red Cap family.

They took such time in designing the tasting room and outdoor space and you experience it when there. The tasting room views are lovely and I'd be happy to dwell in that space it's so well designed and the views so sweeping across Howell Mountain. The outdoor area has these gigantic, bright verdant trees that were so different! I loved their small leafed, electric green canopy. And the fountain is gorgeous. Arriving here you kind of inhale a bit because it's so surprisingly special and elegant. When it comes to the wine, its grapes are harvested on Howell Mountain which is also where the tasting room is situated hence the phenomenal views. I liked the wine but I only loved 1 or 2 of the bottles. Wine is so subjective though so if you have architectural interest or it's a hobby I would recommend going just for that alone. They gave us a fabulous tour of the cellars and also where they ferment the wine so we got to see the giant vats and of course here about the process. It was such a great experience. I enjoyed learning about their process and their lead wine maker (the correct name for that position I don't know) is a woman which is cool fact. This is a special place and if you're celebrating anything while visiting Napa, this is a fantastic spot to include in your tasting itinerary.

Coming from East Bay, always find myself at Plumpjack or Odette, both sister wineries. Was hosted in a group of 4 yesterday by Kevin at Cade. What a wonderful experience. Last time on Property was during Covid, so tasting a bit confined. Yesterday started with Sav Blanc, passion fruit chocolates and a complete tour of the facility. We sat back down with stunning views of the valley and tasted the 2022 lineup, with some special pours of 2017 and 2023 to compare and contrast. Cade does a wonderful job balancing guest attendance, so felt very much like a private event. We then received a special invite to go down the hill go Cade 13th winery. Cade 13 wine was amazing, along with other library selections from their sister properties. Highly recommend!

Kendall took us on the lookout area and pointed out the vineyards in which the grapes were grown to produce our wines. We were then invited into the beautiful tasting room where we enjoyed exploring 5 of the Outpost wines. Kendall is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to Outpost Wines as well as their incredibly talented winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown. Every wine we tasted was world class and the stories behind the wines we will treasure for a lifetime. My favorite wine of the tasting was the 2023 True Vineyard Immigrant. It exhibited great structure and finesse with loads of dark fruit. It paired beautifully with dark chocolate. We loved our visit to Outpost Wines. The memories created will be cherished for years to come.

The a part of a consortium of other small wineries around the world and in Napa focus on a narrow selection of grapes and wines some, like their Chardonnay are very limited with only a couple hundred cases. Their stars are the big bold cabs priced in the $100 range and we tasted both the current release, 2017 as well as the 2016. Their was also a light and fun Gamay in limited quantities and a hearty zin. Tasting fee of $45 is waved with three bottle purchase. It's worth the long slow drive up the curvy mountain roads for the view alone and host Brian couldn't have been more welcoming. This is most definitely a destination winery and their max group is 6 people. Given the limited tasting slots you must plan well in advance if you want to experience this one of a kind spot

BUT IT IS!!! I found Summit Lake zin in Rhode Island of all places. I was at a super high end curated wine store and told them I was looking for a particular wine from Calistoga which of course they didn't have. The guy leaned in and told me that he did have something else I might like in the back, which intrigued me. He came back with summit lake zin, told me it was so good that he wasn't even putting it on the shelves. I bought one bottle, went home and tried it, and immediately called him to reserve the rest of what he was willing to sell me. Now that I'm back in northern California, I had been hoping to go to the actual winery to see what it was about. I imagined to myself that I as a mostly cabernet drinker, couldn't possibly like the rest of what they made if the thing I loved from their lineup was zin, of all things. I joined their email list and was emailed on "zin day" that they were doing a 30 percent off their zin so I bought a bunch, set up a wine tasting on the day I was going to pick it up, and waited for the day to come. When we arrived, it was a gorgeous November Saturday, and all the leaves were turning shades of rust and gold. We met up with Heather and her fellow canine greeter, and made our way to some benches in an open grass area. This is EXACTLY what I think about when I imagine how Napa and Sonoma's wine history looked like when they were beginning. No castles and froufrou- just honest to goodness great farmers and ranchers, trying their hands at grapes, and making something beautiful that showcased their passion. Heather was super friendly, and the ultimate no fuss host. We loved her sweet dog and the surrounding horses, chickens and goats, and the relaxing atmosphere of the property. I knew I loved their zin and I convinced myself the rest of their wines were likely bad to protect myself from a huge letdown, but I was wrong! SO WRONG! Literally all of their wines were absolutely delicious. I'm not a port person, so that didn't do anything for me, but their petite Syrah was delicious, their cabernet was incredible, and of course, their zin is magic. Despite the challenges of covid, their location tucked out in the middle of the wilderness in Howell Mountain in Angwin, or anything else, this family owned and operated winery is doing some incredible work on some gorgeously blended, and expertly crafted wines. These wines easily stand up to some of Napa's finest, and in my opinion, they still craft the best zin I've ever tasted. I'm a huge fan and will continue to support this incredibly talented family in their winemaking!
