There's certain powers at work here, some tangible and easily identified as exceptional, as in matters of interaction with the staff or the doctor's bedside manner. These are easy to identify, both the front desk and the back nurses are kind and well trained and professional. They are focused and pleasurable. It's the intangible elements that are more difficult to define here, existing only in faith, that you know you're in the right place and everything's going to be okay. And it's all of it. The waiting room isn't sterile and mauve with plastic baseboards and a sterile nervousness. Here, sculptures sit catty cornered and framed photos of European lands take you out of the moment of where you are in West Los Angeles and into a broader mind-scape of art and creation. Beautiful waves under lovely blue skies broadcast on a loop from the television and contribute to the ease of atmosphere you find yourself in. Then there's the voice of Dr. Klapper in the back, who presents himself somewhat with the countenance of a country doctor, joyous and sensical, along with a Mensa like quality and eyes that shutter between smile and snipe. With a lower voice going into surgery for my knee replacement he told me "I'm the only one who's touching your knee." And months later post surgery he said "This is why I do this, for people like you." These are words of a wise man and it's a privilege to be his patient. Whether there's more than meets the eye here who knows, but I can say after encountering this physician and having a full knee replacement successfully performed that life seems less agnostic and more of purpose. Take whatever appointment you can get, wait, and enjoy the gift that awaits you. read more

I've been under Dr Klapper's care for nearly 30 years; I have had two knee replacements and one hip replacement and can't imagine a more engaged or professional provider. I met with Dr. Klapper after other surgeons insisted on giving me worthless shots and recommending anything other than surgery. Dr. Klapper showed me via X-rays that my knees were bone on bone and that knee replacement was the only fix. Six weeks after surgery I'm walking 4 miles a day and back on our stationary bike. My knee feels bionic and is no longer bowed. I cannot wait to get my other knee done now! He is the best. You might need to wait a few months to see him as he is in high demand but it's well worth the wait. Meanwhile, my friend who went elsewhere is still in pain and is so jealous of my progress! Thank you Dr. Klapper!!! See you in September! read more

Simply the best. He replaced both of my hips over 15 years ago and I wouldn't have had it any other way.

I can't say enough about Dr Klapper He was the surgeon I chose after seeing 4 other Doctors for both my knees replacements . I was in so much pain , Dr is an Absolute Angel on earth . My 1st knee after Surgery felt amazing the little pain i felt did not compare to the agony I been in before. After 4 months I was ready for my 2nd knee surgery ! I've had my knees replaced 5 years ago ! I will always be eternally grateful to Dr. and his staff , I praise him to anyone I know that needs an orthopedic surgeon! Dr you are the BEST !! read more

Dr. Klapper and his staff are incredible. They truly put the patient's needs first. They are responsive, respectful, and highly skilled in what they do. What can I say, Dr. Klapper is the best of the best! I was scheduled to have rotator cuff surgery at the Southern California Orthopedic Institute in June. But the mishandling of my files, the rude doctor, and mistakes being made (like them quoting me the WRONG shoulder to be operated on), gave me severe pause. Because Dr. Klapper had operated on the other shoulder, I reached out to his office to see if he could do the surgery instead. They told me it would be a year wait to get an appt and then another 3-4 months before I could get the surgery, meaning 16 months out. That was impossible for me because my shoulder was deteriorating quickly. On a whim, I emailed him using the email on his website. DO YOU KNOW THIS DOCTOR CALLED MY CELL PHONE IN AN HOUR!? AN HOUR!!!!!!!!!! I explained what was happening and he told me to come in the next day. Looked at my X-rays and MRI and scheduled me into a cancellation a week and a half later. Now I'm going through the arduous recovery, but thanks to Dr. Klapper, I was able to have my shoulder fixed before it got worse and WITHOUT WORRY! He's a great doc who listens to his patients and does his best to get their needs handled promptly. THANKS DOC!!! read more

At 71 years old, I was diagnosed with moderate to severe osteoarthritis in my hip. I chose Dr. Klapper to perform my surgery. Best decision ever! During the initial consultation, the procedure was explained in detail and I knew I was in good hands. After the surgery, I found out that because of considerable inflammation, my situation was not a routine replacement, but Dr Klapper's determination and skill prevailed. The afternoon of my surgery I was up and about with the aid of a walker. One week after surgery, I was walking on a walker and functional at home by myself. Post-op appointment showed significant progress. Two weeks after surgery, I was cleared to drive. I am extremely grateful to Dr. Klapper and the Orthopedic staff at Cedars Sinai for my new walk. I highly recommend. read more

I had a hip replacement from Dr. Klapper 10 years ago. I am now having a total knee replacement. There is no one I would allow to operate on me again but Dr. Klapper. You can read all about his top ranking and intellectually know "he's the best" and have confidence you are in accomplished hands, but it's the personal that gets you. He looks at you with such kindness. He listens. He's a story teller. He feels like a character from an old B&W TV show where the Dr drove to your home for a house call, was direct and honest about what you needed, then sat down for a piece of pie. He's from another time, when doctors cared about the heart of their patients. Maybe that's why I always tear up when I'm there. read more

Dr. Klapper is an amazing person! We initially went to his office 16 years ago when my husband had hip pain. While in the waiting room, I noticed the beautiful sculptures he created from stone. My thought was, if he can create beautiful detailed stone sculptures, he must be an amazing orthopedic surgeon. Dr. Klapper made us feel like family and long lost friends! He was very thorough in every aspect. Answered all of our questions and never felt rushed. He makes you feel as though you are the only person in his office. My husband's surgery was very successful and has been pain free. Now to current time...I had a full tear in my rotator cuff. After seeing my MRI, there was no question that I needed surgery. Dr. Klapper explained everything, answered all of my questions. Normally surgery scares me, but I had full confidence in Dr. Klapper and had no fear. It is now 7 days post surgery and I am pain free! There should be an option for 10 stars!!! read more

Dr. Klapper operated on my shoulder after a major large tendon tear a few years ago. Before surgery he couldn't promise to repair it arthroscopically but said he'd try. He did - and today the two holes are invisible. He's also treated me for my knee, ravaged by osteoarthritis and a long-ago cartilage removal. Early in 2024, he replaced my knee joint. The surgery was artfully perfect, befitting his avocation as a sculptor. read more

A little background - I had a knee replacement done due to an old ACL replacement failing and ruining my knee. Every morning my knee was stiff and it hurt whenever I used it. The surgery was a total success. My experiences with Dr Klapper and his team have all been extremely professional and positive and I cannot recommend him strongly enough. Dr. Klapper is a bit like a whirlwind, sweeping into your room with energy and charisma. His office is run like a well-oiled machine and his staff are all top of the line - professional and courteous. I was never in his office for more than 30 minutes. In and out. No BS. He clearly knows what he's talking about and has performed thousands of knee & hip replacements, but yet the connection to me as his patient felt personal and sincere. I trusted him right away. The surgery was painful, as expected, but I did what I was told by Dr Klapper and my PT, and in 2-3 weeks I was off all pills. Now 3 months later, I can play (walk) 18 holes and go hiking with ZERO pain or discomfort. I have no limp and 95% range of motion. It seems like a miracle, but it is in fact the result of a tremendously talented surgeon who has spent his life perfecting his craft. A big thanks to Dr Klapper and his entire staff for literally changing my life. read more

what can be said about Doctor Robert C Klapper? When I first met him, I immediately liked him and realized that, everything I heard about him was true. He makes you feel like family, very friendly, and loves to make people laugh. Most of all, he is a man of God. I am so grateful to have crossed paths with him. A friend of mine, from church actually told me about him. My husband already knew, who he was, from watching his show, ' The Weekend Warrior' Dr. Klapper, took time, with both my husband and me to explain the procedure which gave us an assurance that, this man knows his stuff! He said, " I am into bone and stone" he is a sculpture and has some of his pieces on display in his office, which are quite beautiful. Dr. Klapper performed a total left knee arthroplasty surgery on me May 10, 2023, and I feel wonderful. I am so grateful to God, for pointing me in Dr. Klapper's direction. Thank you, Dr. Klapper. For a very long time, too long, I lived with a limp - a fairly severe limp, stiffness, and pain in my right leg. I was positive it was my knee. Even though I was still in the gym almost every day, I decided to see Dr. Klapper when I suddenly couldn't do normal things like socks, shoes, getting in and out of the car. He diagnosed me as needing a complete right hip replacement. That day, in his office, I felt so confident with his expertise, diagnosis, and prognosis for a healthy future that I was ready to walk across the street to Cedars and get this show on the road. (And I hate anything to do with medical procedures.) Not so fast. Dr. Klapper made it very clear that he believed surgery was required but he wanted me to be sure. I then undertook 3-4 months of prescribed water therapy for two reasons: (1) to see if the therapy moved me to a place where surgery could be avoided (at least for a time), and (2) to strengthen my leg in preparation for surgery and recovery. Indeed, my leg strengthened but surgery was still the correct path. The surgery was on Friday, March 13 - what the hell... when you have a surgeon as experienced and dedicated as Dr. Klapper, why not tempt the fates (I'll bet on science every time). The surgery was a complete success - and one of the most amazing aspects was that I took one pain pill on the night of the 13th and that was mostly to get a decent night's sleep. My hip was shot and yet here I am 3+ weeks later with no pain, walking on a cane as I transition to no cane and then back to a "new normal." I'm tooling around the neighborhood 3-4 times a day, doing my exercise regimen, and Dr. Klapper has cleared me the new normal. Another note: his office staff is outstanding. Compassionate professionals. Dr. Klapper is an intriguing renaissance man - surgeon (something like 15,000+ procedures), sculptor, and surfer. If you want to get a sense of his philosophy and demeanor, check out his radio show on ESPN-LA, Saturday mornings at 7am. I'm very excited as I can now continue my comeback to play centerfield for the New York Yankees. :') read more

Dr. Klapper has been my surgeon for 25 years - replaced both my hips, assisted in a major back surgery and recently replaced my very damaged left knee. Good day to you - It's been 5 months to the day since Dr. Klapper surgically resurfaced my hip. From start to finish = A complete success! I'm 100% satisfied with Dr. Klapper and his team's work ethic, attitude, thoughtfulness & communication. From the first consultation with Dr. Klapper to today's 5 month checkup. The experience has been top notch. I had plenty of questions for Dr. Klapper about the Bellingham procedure during the consultation. He listened and answered all my questions and made me feel completely comfortable about green lighting the procedure. The day of procedure. His team made me feel completely calm and confident with the game plan for the whole day. Going over everything A to Z with the day's proceedings. To top it off, Dr. Klapper came in to walk along as they wheeled me in for the procedure. I must add that I had a preexisting issue that came up and was extremely important and needed to be addressed. As we were in motion to the operating room. Dr. Klapper looked at me and assured me that everything I was concerned about will be okay. I arrived at the hospital at 6am. I was wheeled into the operating room at 7am. I woke up at noon from anesthesia. I was back in my house at 3:30pm. Absolutely incredible! I can't write enough about my experience with Dr. Klapper and his wonderful team. A few important points. Dr. Klapper like most everyone else in the medical field, is very busy. If you want to see him. Call today and get your appointment. Don't wait! The longer you procrastinate, the longer it will take you to get relief. This comes from experience. I waited 5 years to actually have this procedure completed. Insurance was a big hurdle and feeling I was able to get by without surgery was the other. I was wrong on the latter. I play tennis basically every day. 2hrs +. Taking a few Aleve every day was my go to. Since procedure I'm back to playing every day 2hrs + a day without any medication. This just didn't happen overnight Along with a new hip. Stretching, walking, swimming & biking everyday were the building blocks in getting me where I'm at today. I couldn't be happier! A few add ons. - What you put in is what you get out. - Five months have passed since my procedure. Time has flown by. That's 4 1/2 months of zero pain in my hip. I'm able to sit down without any pain and never have to worry about my hip locking up. - No more worrying about standing too long and having my hip lock up with pain. - No more swiveling when I walk. Thank you Dr. Klapper and your team at your office and at Cedars Sinai Hospital. Regards, Bryan Lester read more

If you're searching for an orthopedist with amazing skills combined with sincerity and compassion, then look no further. Dr Klapper is truly the BEST! I had 2 prominent and painful meniscus tears on my left knee and needed surgery. In the first office visit with Dr Klapper, he eased my mind and made me feel comfortable and confident going forward with the surgery with him at the helm. And after the surgery, I can say without any hesitation, selecting Dr Klapper was the best decision I made. I am now healing and on my way to a full recovery. Dr.Klapper performed a total knee replacement on 05/03/2024. I should note, at the time, I was an LVAD patient. I was scared and nervous about going in for a knee replacement, but Dr.Klapper and his team made me feel at ease and confident that I was in good hands. Surgery went great. I still have some more healing to do. The only reason for a set back was I was blessed 3 months later when I received my new heart. I'm so glad I got my knee done. The healing process from heart surgery went smooth. My knee is still healing since I had to stop therapy due to heart surgery, but the pain I had before is gone and I am able to walk better. I know once I'm back in therapy I will improve. Thank you Dr.Klapper and your team for everything. read more

Dr. Klapper performed shoulder surgery on husband a few years ago with great success. I just had a total knee replacement early October and I'm doing great. I walked hours after my surgery and after 2 weeks I don't need a walker or cane. Dr. Klapper is kind and understanding and took the time to thoroughly explain my surgical options so I was able to make the right choice. The surgical procedure was seamless and Dr. Klappers skill and expertise were evident, and i felt reassured every step of the way. STAY. AWAY. FROM. THIS MAN. I do not know why I have been refused the 5 star service so many others have claimed to have gotten from Dr. Robert Klapper. For me. He has done nothing for me except bring me enormous amounts of pain and anxiety. Every day I wake up in agony from my knee. I followed all of Dr. Klappers orders. Get an x-ray, an MRI and PT. He insisted everything else be done first and that surgery be the last option and Dr. Klapper is the surgeon that would be the one to do it. Now he makes false claims that he said I go and get a second opinion. NOT TRUE. The way I see it. This man has done nothing but waste my time and money and still intends to do so. For what reason, I do not know. But I do know one thing. I look at this as a medical doctor REFUSING to treat a patient. I SUGGEST YOU QUESTION THIS MANS MORALS. Perhaps a bit premature to post 2 weeks out from surgery, but am grateful to be given this opportunity to return to a pain free life. A few things to know about Dr Klapper: 1) he is not a surgeon to rush to surgery-will use conservative measures first 2) he was always on time for appointments including my surgery 3) he is positive, non judgmental and patient-centric 4) his staff is on top of things and they respond quickly In my case, the cartilage was worn more due to hip dysplasia which was difficult to diagnose -but became more evident during surgery. I am excited about a full recovery in the weeks months ahead. The proof will be returning to pain free lifestyle and I am confident I will do just that. Dr Klapper helps instill that level of confidence based on his expertise and passion for his work. For those of you experiencing hip pain-I highly recommend his book Heal the Hips -How to Avoid Surgery and What to do if you Need it-Second Edition. Great educational tool that will prepare you prior to visiting your surgeon, it highlights preventative exercises, explains various hip problems and solutions and post surgery exercises (land and aquatic). My #1 goal is to send Dr Klapper a picture of me hiking and biking ( maybe even running) again! Selecting a surgeon is very personal, but Dr Klapper should be contacted at minimum for second opinion or consult. Make room on your wall for another patient accolade Dr Klapper! read more

This review has been a long time coming. I was given Dr. Klapper's name by one of the employees of the pharmacy in Dr. Klapper's building because the quack I was seeing said I was too young to have knee replacement surgery even though he made mention that both my knees were caving in but yet, again, I was too young for the surgery. I was in a great deal of pain all the time, my whole body hurt because you know when one thing goes wrong so do other things. I was 58 years old. If someone had taken an xray of my entire body it would look like a Frida Kahlo painting of my bones out of place and cracking. My first experience with Dr. Klapper was contacting him via email one weekday morning from work. Can you believe he actually responded? Then, he called me at work. WTFrak? Doctor's don't do that!!!! They have other people call you. It was at this point I knew I had a doctor that cares about people. He has, over the last couple of years, responded to every email I've sent him (not a lot just a few and he even called me on a Sunday morning when something was going on with my left knee prior to its surgery). I literally had a short funny conversation with him which, with as much pain as I was in, calmed me down. There is something about certain healers that were just born to be that, a healer. Healing is also carried in their voices. I don't understand the rotten reviews. His office is busy. I'm a legal secretary and I know what it's like. (I work for a very popular busy attorney and not only one - I have 2 others I work for a total of 3 attorneys, 2 partners and one associate.) It doesn't excuse being rude but, I get it. I've been at that point myself where I've been so overwhelmed people could tell I was ready to snap. I just needed to say that about his office. As for the waiting times, late patients make everyone else late so even though I've been there at least 1/2 hour ahead of my appointments I've waited for a while on some visits. I allow for that because most people are inconsiderate (not the doctor) and they don't care if being late makes everyone else late. You can't have a better doctor. His right hand Sandy is wonderful. I've had both knees replaced now. The left on September 17, 2021 and just recently the right on October 21, 2022. If you're going to have your knees done (or any other part of your body that he works on) this is the man to do it. I certainly hope nothing else goes wrong with me but if it does and Dr. Klapper can fix it - I'm his. read more

I do not doubt that Dr. Klapper is a good orthopedic surgeon; however, I am very glad I got a second opinion from another highly-rated orthopedist. Dr. Klapper said I needed a total knee replacement. Three months ago he repaired my right shoulder, which is 85% of normal and getting better all the time. I expect another 100% recovery. I can't recommend him highly enough. I've thought about this for a long time...in no way am I qualified to do a review...so calling this a celebration of good fortune...so here goes; 30 years ago I was in Cedars-Sinai ER the result of a motorcycle accident. I had sustained multiple injuries including a messed up right knee. I asked the ER doctor if he knew a good orthopedic surgeon. He said there was a doctor across the street who had a good reputation and gave me the phone #. I called the next day and made an appointment. When I came into the office there was one picture on the wall of Wilt Chamberlain standing next to Dr. Klapper who had just done the great basketball player's knees. What an intro! Over these 3 decades, Dr. Klapper has cleaned up my right knee, rehabilitated my right shoulder without surgery (still do the exercises every day) and has replaced 3 of my hinges: both knees (TKR) and recently my left hip - all the result of me tearing stuff up. Needless to say, I've lived rambunctiously. Dr. Klapper's superb skills have not only improved my life but have added many more years of crashing and burning. What's also great is during this time the walls of his office have become covered with fantastic pics and terrific testimonials of those fortunate patients like myself...also want to mention on display, his surfboards, jerseys of the great Laker players he's repaired and his marble sculptures. There is no doctor I've ever been to that I learn as much as I do in a matter of minutes as with Dr. Klapper - plus he truly genuinely cares and is always focused on what's best for his patients.
