It's taken me long enough right? Talk about Queen of Procrastination haha. Anyhow, many of my yelp friends know that i've been coming to Roasting Water almost daily, if not 2-3 times a week(sorry guys!), so this review is looooonnnnnggggg overdue. With this location opening on 5/27, is far closer to home then their other 3 locations, which i have frequented as well. But this is their first foray out of the OC area, and it has been a hit!
Located in the Long Beach Towne Center, in the small plaza between Ben & Jerry's and Charo's Peruvian, it's actually a pretty prime spot because you can't miss it! With nothing but glass windows, the colorful mugs & the line out the door are sure to draw your attention in. It's become super popular since they opened up on 5/27. If you're still unsure, park by Starbucks and you can't miss it. The layout inside kinda sucks, as you order, move down and then go back to pick up your drinks. Oh, then weave through everyone in line to get back out the door. It's a bit weird, but some how it still works out, even on their busiest days. They host cute, reusable bottles with adorable designs that change every so often. They have glass bottles with cork tops, beware they can leak if not sealed tightly and they're a bit heavy. The koi fish and cityscape were super popular for a bit. The plastic bottles are my favorite because they have a cap that twists on and off, so you can reuse it more often than the glass one. But yes, the designed bottles are the gimmick to get you coming back to see what's new! Ugh, and i'm a sucker for the freaking cuteness. The mugs lining the shelves inside may or may not be available depending on their in store stock. If you're set on a certain mug they'll refer you to their website, where you can have it shipped directly to you. I scored a pretty sweet Hello Kitty bento box that i use basically every day, and some cool new tea cups, and they're pretty inexpensive. or get one for $5 with a hot drink purchase.
On to the DRINKAAAGGGEEE!!! Their menu ranges from teas to coffees, smoothies which have a dairy base, lemonades, fruit teas, chill me's (smoothies with a non-dairy base!) and yummy chocolate options! I was pretty thorough with their menu, trying a bit of everything a few times each just to make sure it wasn't a fluke and that the consistency was there. And for the most part it was, out of 70+ trips they only messed up a handful(under 8) of times. Not bad, at all especially when i'd make decently sized orders at busy times just to test the theory of consistency. My go to's are: RW Coffee (with or without boba), Caramel Macchiato, Guilty Pleasure, Heavenly Kiss, Thai Tea, Black Milk Tea(w/ or w/out boba) Jack and Jill, Peach Raspberry, Just Mango, Pure Strawberry, Strawberry Kiss, Cool Raspberry, #SWAG, White Peach Tea and Joker's Tea. I've also had the genius idea to add the sea salt cream(the topping for the RW Coffee) to the thai and milk teas, caramel macchiato and the Guilty Pleasure. Holy crappola is it good! I know, it sounds soo freaking weird, but it's soo yummy! Their coffee drinks are strong, with just enough sweetness to avoid being black coffee, but perfect for waking you up in the AM! All of their fruit teas have the option of being made with herbal or green tea, and for the most part i've found that the green tea goes well with everything. Anyhow, the mistakes that were made with my orders were messed up add-ons, missing sea salt cream or boba, or using the wrong tea base. All things that aren't noticed until you're already gone if you tell them it's to go, because they bag it for you. Not a big deal, but ya know...when you want something..and you're expecting it..ugh. The drinks are bomb, and again consistent in flavor!
I took off one star for the icky layout, and the messed up orders. Layout bothers me because they should make it so one part of the door is an entrance, and the other side is an exit. The messed up orders comes down to customer service and listening. The music is pretty dang loud sometimes, so i can see why they probably misunderstood what i said, and singing along while taking an order doesn't help either. The employees are high school and college kids, but they're all super friendly, and upbeat. Most know me by name, or know what i'm planning on ordering, depending on the time of day, or day of the week(I'm dead serious). But the rest of my feelings towards Roasting Water are all love and good vibes. It's a chill place to grab a tasty drink and hang out before a movie, or walk around the bookstore with something other than Starbucks haha. If you haven't checked out Roasting Water yet, stop in, grab a trendy bottle with a delicious drink it, and try to tell yourself you won't be back. Don't worry, i'll understand if you become addicted too haha. read more
