Straight forward menu, basic but delicious chicken with a few sides. Love how tender the chicken is and the huge portions they give you. Definitely worth it

Chicken Finger Sandwich
Mary Kathryn S.

This place has not changed a single bit in 15 years. I grew up going to Roasters, but the location by my home was relocated. My boyfriend and I stopped here while apartment hunting and we absolutely loved it. I got the chicken finger platter and he got the chicken finger sandwich and they both hit the spot. The price for the food is unbeatable and we had our meals within 20 minutes of being seated. It is so wholesome remembering something from your childhood and it being the exact same experience. Service, experience, and food quality LOVE!

Half rack ribs. I cut each rib that's why it looks like that! Ribs were awesome!

Excellent food! Food was tasty! Service was great and food came out fast. Place was spacious and had a lot of seating. Place was clean as well as the restrooms. Friendly staff.

Peach cobbler (front) crisp (back)

Hunting for the best peach cobbler in Atlanta and this place popped up on one of the places to go. The menu has the homemade peach cobbler and it was fair. A little too sweet with the cinnamon but lack the crunch of a crumble or pie. I needed more of that. The crisp was the star for the 2 items. It was quite pleasant. If I was in the area, I'd go back for dessert.

Combo plate - half ribs and 1/4 dark chicken with 2 sides =$17 before tax at lunch

Quick service. Good food. Old diner ambiance, which I totally love! I'm kicking myself since it took me this long to try this place out. It's your standard old school American food. Nothing over engineered. Rotisserie was juicy and tasty. But between here and kid cashew, I'd say kid cashew's chicken is the winner. Although this rotisserie is more of a 'traditional' variation - meaning, nothing too fancy - a good overall classic. Also, when it comes to side items, this place kicks Kid Cashew's butt haha. I watched a guy at a next table only eat side items (which they have a 'veggie plate'), and I was like - this dude must be vegetarian. NOPE - it's because their side items are good. It's very homey. All in all, it gives me a Grandma Rudine type of food - lol. If you get my drift. But yeah - i can dig it.

I grew up right around the corner from this strip mall (the parking is an absolute nightmare. Maybe not quite as bad as towards the Roasters end, but the narrow slanty-spots aisle/road nearest the building around the middle/Trader Joe's section is just horrible.) It was a really sunny, fall afternoon and I wanted to eat lunch on a patio, and while the ambiance of Roasters' patio isn't all that great (parking lot view), the food and service all but made up for it. The portions, price, and taste of my lunch was amazing, and the server (can't recall his name) was friendly and prompt. I wasn't expecting it to be as good as some of the local BBQ places that I frequently do carry-out from, but for how much food we got in our entrees and its price, it was pretty stiff competition. I'd gladly go back again, mostly for the bbq pork, chicken, collards and corn bread. (The black eyed peas and the broccoli were severely under-seasoned, but the rest of the things were so good, all I needed was to fork different bites together.)

Quarter dark meat with mac and fries!
David G.

Came here on a Saturday night around 6 pm and although the place was busy we were seated at once. The place is casual and has a family friendly vibe, so seems like the kind of place people would also go to during the week for an easy meal. Our waitress was great, on point checking up on us but also giving us a moment when we needed to look through the menu. We started out with a couple of rolls, trying both the yeast and cornbread, and although both were tasty the cornbread was the hands down winner. For my main course I got the quarter dark with mac and fries. The chicken tasted just like store bought rotisserie chicken, which I guess is the point, but not something I would order again. Mac n cheese was fine but nothing special, so would try another side in the future as they have a ton of options. Really enjoyed the fries with seasoning on.

Showed up on a Saturday afternoon for a brunch date and the place was packed. That's usually both a…read morered and green (brown? lol) flag for me, but the space is huge - indoor and outdoor seating - so putting our names down only resulted in a 20 minute wait. Entirely manageable. Started off with the Tropic Like It's Hot mocktail (pineapple, orange juice, coconut water cream). Pretty tasty, crisp, and refreshing. Then came the cornbread muffins with the "liquid gold" spun honey. Unbelievable. Hot, crumbly, and easily the best thing on the table. Whoever is running the pastry program in the back understands pure physics. I could've eaten a dozen of those alone. For the entree, I got the Spiced Maple Chicken & Grits - fried chicken tossed in maple hot sauce, grits, two eggs, benton's bacon, and scallions - along with a side biscuit and jam. Complete hit. The chicken had a great crunch, the heat-to-sweet ratio was locked in, and the grits were smooth. Biscuit was flaky and proper, too. Bottom line: Buttermilk Kitchen executes at a high level even when swamped. Just don't skip the cornbread. I'll definitely be back.

She even told me that I couldn't leave without trying a biscuit and brought one complimentary. I would give that experience a 5 and I would give my last experience a 3 but let's just do an average. That's how I got four stars. This time, the service felt very different. Our waitress, Nekale, had a pleasant voice and was a beautiful woman, but she lacked warmth or friendliness. She definitely had the RBF going on. It felt like when someone says "I love you" with a stern face. Maybe something happened that day and she had an attitude, but if that's the case, don't interface with people on the floor. The girl brought lukewarm coffee, and my mom had to ask for fresh coffee. I was a little embarrassed because it was my mom's first time there and the service was blah. My mom said her grits were lukewarm, and so were my potatoes. She did not want to send them back because she was hungry, so she just ate them and did not say anything to me until she was almost done. Everything came out at a great time, and the presentation was amazing. It all looked very delicious. However, when I bit into my chicken biscuit, I got a lot of grease. In addition, I had asked if everything was an even swap, and she said yes, but when I paid, I saw an upcharge for my potatoes. All in all, I was very disappointed that the service was not as great as I experienced the first time. I was also disappointed that my food wasn't amazing. That said, I will still be back at some point.

I decided to have a tapas-style dinner with food from The Works and just had to grab some chicken from Delilah's. The menu is plentiful without being overwhelming, except when it comes to picking a favorite between the flavorful options. I knew that I didn't want or need a full meal and opted for their 3 whole wing option that came paired with cornbread. The young man who took my order was so polite and patient, as there were a few folks in line and waiting for previously placed orders. He let me know that my order would be ready in about 15 minutes so I took the time to continue my food-finding journey around the market. When I returned later, I had lost track of time and figured I'd just poke my head around their stall to see if my chicken was ready. It wasn't at that moment but I took some time to observe the process. There was only one guy in the open kitchen and prep area creating all of the meals and he was on the move. If I could add smells to my review, this one would smell like fried chicken and cornbread. It was all so fresh! When my order was ready, I only made one other stop before heading to my car to go home to my family... but not before I tested those whole wings from Delilah's. When I say that they were fresh out of the grease? Babehhh. It's like he just threw them right into the basket only seconds before. It was sooo crunchy, so juicy, just a fantastic wing. The hot sauce was a nice pairing but some spice in the breading/meat would have taken it over the top but this chicken was delicious. No notes.

It made us stop and ask, "what is this place and this absolutely delicious-looking sandwich?!" The rest is history. We ordered yummy fried chicken pieces and a bbq chicken sandwich. It cured our souls. We asked the generous, wonderful lady at the counter about the story of Delilah's: was she a real person, who is she, etc. her answers made us fall in love even more... this is a genuine, family-owned and operated enterprise! We love, love, loved our food and I can't wait to go back and soport again!!! You gotta try it.

Unfortunately, our excitement quickly faded before we were even seated. When I walked into the restaurant, I was completely ignored by a young blonde employee named Claudia who was standing behind the counter in the waiting area. She looked directly at me and continued what she was doing without so much as a greeting or an acknowledgment. A simple, "Good morning, someone will be right with you," would have gone a long way. Since no one else was in the lobby and I noticed a clipboard on the counter, I politely asked if there was a waitlist. Claudia responded with an attitude that she "wasn't the hostess." I calmly asked where the hostess was, and she simply replied that she was clearing tables. There was no offer to help, no explanation of the process, and no attempt to assist me. She continued interacting with other staff members while I stood there feeling like an inconvenience. Thankfully, another employee who appeared to be a waiter noticed me. He immediately picked up the same clipboard that had been sitting on the counter, took my name and phone number with a cheerful attitude, and let me know it would be about a 15-minute wait. His professionalism completely contrasted with the poor customer service I had just experienced. Once seated, our waiter was personable, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu. The food was also very good. I ordered the Chicken Sausage Scramble with hash browns, and it was delicious. My friend ordered the Catfish and Grits and thoroughly enjoyed her meal as well. The food and our waiter helped redeem the experience, but first impressions matter. Management should ensure that every employee understands that providing basic courtesy and hospitality is everyone's responsibility, not just the hostess's. Even if greeting guests or managing the waitlist wasn't Claudia's primary role, there was no excuse for being dismissive or rude to someone walking through your front door. Alpharetta has no shortage of excellent brunch spots with both great food and outstanding customer service. Sadly, because of the way I was treated before I was even seated, I won't be returning to The Southern Porch. I also won't feel comfortable recommending it to friends or family. It's disappointing because the kitchen and our waiter did their jobs well, but one employee's attitude overshadowed what could have been an otherwise enjoyable brunch.
