I went to Atlanta for a quick trip to see if we wanted to move there from California. I went to Roasters for dinner on a Wednesday. I arrived around 9:00 so there was no wait. I was really hungry so I ordered a lot of food! I got the BBQ pulled chicken, chicken fingers, Mac & cheese, white chicken chili, broccoli, and of course sweet tea. My ambition was definitely bigger than my stomach! I loved the chili, Mac & cheese, and sweet tea. I wouldn't order the pulled chicken or chicken fingers again. Instead I would order a chicken breast entree. The portions were good-sized and my server (I forgot her name) was really, really friendly and gave me lots of advice on moving to Atlanta. Roaster's used to be one of our favorite places, sadly today, we were very disappointed. The white, chicken chili was as good as before but they are now charging for the rolls and cornbread. They have changed the menu and some of our favorites were gone (Santa Fe salad). The salad I did get was drenched in dressing. All-in-all a disappointing experience. Roasters has been a mainstay for me as a convenient, good-food eatery for over 15 years. Commuting between downtown and the perimeter, it's a good mid-point meeting place for a quick bite. The ambience has gone a bit "restaurant-corporate" (in the early days this location will filled with photos of past diners - lining every booth along the walls). Above said photos used to hang works by local artists (for sale!) - all that's gone now and replaced by "found" decorative items and modern pendant lighting (I can understand that once they expanded they needed some brand consistency). Other than that the food and service have been regularly good for all the many years I've visited this location. I'm torn in my food recommendations - I used to get the pork ribs fairly often - no smokiness so I don't consider this a real BBQ joint, but they do fall off the bone (they're very similar to those served in one of the first restaurants I ever worked in, Buster Muggs in Knoxville, TN - steamed for tenderness then finished off on a grill). I really like their BBQ sauce - sweet and spicy and unlike anyone else's. If you get the Ribs and Chicken plate you get a quarter slab plus a breast or leg (I usually get the white meat). Speaking of the chicken, Roasters is really known for their rotisserie and serves up a tender yard bird. If you're in doubt, get something with the chicken in it and you can't go wrong. I only mention doubt as the menu has may delectable items on it. I especially like the turkey plate (slices of turkey on homemade dressing with gravy and two veggies). Most if not all of their sides are made in house - the green beans are a favorite of mine and the broccoli-cauliflower cheese casserole is what I order when I want comfort food. The plates also come with a bread basket - the corn-bread muffins are excellent, but on the sweet side (I like sweet but if you don't be forewarned). Slather on a bit of butter and you don't need dessert (but if you still want to sample, the peach cobbler ala mode is fantastic!). I was dining at Roasters early in 2010 and a guy came up to me and said - "Hey you're name is John isn't it?" - turned out he remembered working with me in the late 80's at the Buckhead Diner - he was washing dishes and I was working Saute on the line and somehow he recognized me (back then I had hair pulled into a ponytail halfway down my back - I guess other than the hair I haven't changed much). read more

Since moving back to Atlanta over a year ago, Roasters has become part of our regular meal rotation. It is an awesome choice if you are in the mood for southern food. They are able to make many of their sides with no animal products so that makes this Plant-Based Vegan a happy camper. So this has always been a staple of buckhead. All the locals have been here and travel here for lunch in the area. Rotisserie Chicken is the go to here although I heard ribs are good too . But the chicken is a must with your choice of some southern sides . My favs are fried okra and Mac n cheese . Well this breaks my heart that I have to leave this review because the service I is always 5 stars. Today we stop by our favorite place since moving to Smyrna we don't get to eat here often because the one over there closed some years ago. Anyways we sit down and the young man Erin I think was not that friendly he didn't tell us about the specials like Lamar does. Food took a long time to come out and then wHen it did arrive our Erin disappears and then Jennifer is now the server. She had a lot of tables so it was a little hard for her to keep up. Food was not hot and was actually warm. The new manager caMe over and asked hoW was everything and we told her. She apologized and took off the soup and we tried to pay. Roasted chicken is always good and you can get it prepared and served in many ways including dark or white meat and skin or skinless. I ended up getting half rack of baby back ribs, a loaded baked potato and side vegetable salad. My friend ordered the chicken finger dinner. A group o friends decided to meet in Santa Monioca for 4 days over a weekend. The Hotel is older, but has had an rennovation in the past few years. The rooms are OK, but the sinks in the bathroom are very small. To our huge surprise was the fact that the hotel shuts down the lobby over night. One of our friends was asked to leave the lobby around 6 AM as she was updating her emails and wanted to get out of the geust room. In 60 years of traveling the globe I never recall having a lobby closed down to guests unless their were repairs. This was our first stop at this Roaster's location, but it will not be our last. My wife had 1/4 white meat chicken with green beans and soufflé. I ordered the Tuesday Special of three tacos and a side. My plate was one each of brisket, grilled fish, and shrimp & crab meat tacos with fried okra for the side. The food was very enjoyable. My wife brought home part of her meal and part of my okra. We had a lot of food. These tacos were more filling that I expected. They were tasty as well, with various textures in each taco. Have been going to Roasters, both locations, but mainly Lenox for 25 yrs. Since i've been going there for that long, needless to say my wife and i love the place. Ive even had my co workers hooked on the place. Sunday, my wife went to order a whole chicken with 2 sides and mexican chicken with 3 sides. Sunday, i ate the mexican chicken with 2 sides no problems. Today i opened the container with chicken and there were no legs included. My wife called the place just to tell them that there were no legs. She was not looking for a refund just calling to let them know for training purposes but they were treating her like she was trying to get over. The pulled pork plate contained a sizable portion of shredded pork that was moist and tasty. I had sides of Mac and Cheese and fried okra - both with great flavor. When you walk in, you really don't expect Roasters to be this good. The place has the look & vibe of a bar that hasn't been touched since the Clinton administration. It's clean, mind you, but Roasters reminds me of the family restaurants I would go to growing up, the kind of restaurant that serves passable food and gets by because, well, it's there and you have to eat something. While Roasters embodies some of that aesthetic (America's quintessential meat & potatoes band, Foo Fighters, were on the radio when I sat down, after all), serving basic down-home dishes that don't try to re-invent the wheel, and doing so at affordable prices, it mostly rises above when it comes to the food. Given both cornbread and a roll when I sat down, I could tell from the shimmering reflection I was going to like the roll, and I did. I'm always a tough customer with cornbread, though. Theirs was... great. It's a rare occurrence where I wanted more cornbread. Well done! Chicken fingers get a lot of the accolades at Roasters, and they mostly live up to the hype. A platter gets you 5 moderately sized pieces, and they are both juicy and delightfully breaded. The flavor isn't anything you're gonna write home to Mama and Papa Yelp about, but it's enough. Dip 'em in the excellent honey mustard (another rarity for me is deeming any honey mustard good enough for my chicken, but Roasters' honey mustard is perfectly balanced), which is better than the thick BBQ sauce, and enjoy. The french fries could best be described as, "these are french fries that I do not hate". They cleared the bar without going far beyond. A special for the day was jalapeno mac & cheese, so naturally I asked them to shovel that down my gullet as quickly as possible, and it was a pretty solid offering. Again, there's nothing I've had at Roasters (yet) which will make me mention them in discussions of the best X or favorite Y in the city, but pretty much everything I had there was satisfying, and at the end of the day, that's what you're looking for. Chasing down inventive and challenging menu items can be fun, but it can get exhausting as well, and it's nice to know there's something simple and tasty like Roasters when I just want food that, when I'm done, will leave enough grease on my plate to blind another patrons. It's hard not to feel at home at Roasters, what with the great service and, most importantly, the presence of White Zombie's "Thunder Kiss '65" on the radio as I gulped down some delicious sweet tea. I was so pleasantly surprised by this place! I was having a HUGE Mac and Cheese craving. Being down south does that to me. I literally yelped "Mac and cheese" and went to the place closest to me with the best looking pics...and reviews. That was Roasters. I think my servers name was JD? He was so awesome. I really liked him. He was just attentive enough without buggin. Actually the whole staff was on point. I ordered the veggie plate and sat on the patio to enjoy my peace and quiet. Had the whole place to myself! The greens were just ok but that mac and cheese was all she wrote. I ordered a sweet potato too but actually never ate it. Trying to support restaurants during this pandemic. If I graciously support an establishment, I expect quality service. 2 orders, both with baked sweet potato and unsweetened teas. Received 1/2 a potato and sweet tea in each order. Was not told this would be the case. But clearly my receipt indicates unsweet teas, and does not reflect a discount for the 1/2 potatoes we received. Feel they took advantage of the inconvenience of not wanting to go inside my bag because of having to remove my gloves. Please be cautious when ordering pick up from Roasters or any restaurant. The food is good but the service was bad. I ordered online and received a notification my food would be ready at 7:47. I only ordered a kid's hotdog and two salad wedges. I didn't get them until 8:35 p.m. The staff was friendly but four different people asked me at least five times what I was waiting for? One of the staff members have me an Arnold Palmer because i had to wait. Business is clearly booming, but it should not take that long to get a kid's hot dog meal, especially when you tell me the time to come and pick it up. The food is good so if you have time to kill, then you're good. If not then, you might want to go somewhere else -- at least on a Friday evening. read more

I ordered the turkey plate. It came with dressing, sliced turkey, cranberry sauce and 2 sides. I got mac and cheese and turnip greens. The greens were tasteless, mac n cheese tasted like they were made with cream of mushroom and they werent good. The dressing was ok. I wanted a window seat, so i got a window seat. You won't find a better deal for southern food in Buckhead. I order the combo which you can choose from 2-3 different meat and sides. I chose the bbq ribs and the roasted chicken. Like all roasted chicken it should taste bland and chalk chewy. No, not this one, not the one i had at Roasters, it was season really good. They made sure the chicken tasted savory inside. Even though i asked broccoli to be steamed, it was undercooked. This place looked like a parlor, it was overcrowded and so was the parking lot. Roasters was first introduced to me by Jimmy M. (Angela M's husband) during our college years. Various friends have lived in the condominium and apartment complexes nearby, so we've stopped by here on a handful of occasions. Roasters is a Southern food chain with two other locations in Atlanta. I've dined in and taken out for dinner at this location on Lenox and the food has always been pretty decent. I guess you could call it comfort food. They offer a variety of soups, salads, and sandwiches, but my friends and I usually end up ordering the entrees or "specialties" as they're more appealing and filling. One of their signature dishes is their slow-roasted rotisserie chicken. It's flavorful and juicy. Also, while the quality feels more cafeteria-like or mass-produced, I find their Southern vegetable dishes to be satisfying. I always order the same sides at Southern restaurants and those include fried okra, turnip greens, and sometimes creamed spinach. All three are good here. Their mac and cheese and sweet potato souffle are also tasty. There are over 20 different sides to choose from. The restaurant can get quite busy at times and the employees do not do the greatest job of keeping it clean. If you're dining in, they offer both indoor and outdoor seating. They have mostly booth seating here. Service has always been fine. I had 30 minutes or so and I needed to make it quick, needing something close. I saw the sign from Lenox Road and reminisced on my last time here (probably 7 years ago) and then remembered seeing a review recently and said to myself, "Self, turn here and go back to Roasters." Now that you know how my brain works, let me share the experience. I was quickly greeted and seated by Kinsley, a bubbly big haired cute girl. She has a great spirit and gave me stellar service from beginning to end. I was not here long but was asked how was I doing, do I need anything or something of that nature no less than 5 times by her and the staff. Even the manager, pretty sure it was the mgr, swung by to make sure I was good. Yes, yes I am fine...totally not bothered at all, just loving the attention. Plus, the food ordered came out very fast. The bread arrived first...man I don't need this but I totally want it. Taco Tuesday! Every Tuesday tacos are $2.50 each. I ordered a variety of 3 and enjoyed them all. The fish was my favorite, but it usually always is from anywhere...usually. The buffalo chicken was good as well, none of them being bad. I had my silverware, water filled, extra napkins, condiments and a nice setting all without asking. I was loving it. Quick, easy, extra good service and a pleasant experience. I did inquire to the mgr why it was so dark; so "romantical" for 6pm'ish. She explained they have the lights up for lunch and down for dinner. Makes sense. I was not complaining just inquiring even though she offered to turn them up. That is not necessary but thanks for offering. I ate and had pre-meeting phone conversations while watching a party across from me celebrate a birthday. Several members of the staff come out to do a quick song, nothing embarrassing. It will be hard for me to drive by again without stopping, even if it's a To Go Order. I remember the wings being excellent but I was not in the mood this day. Next time. The New EatZis! For all those who miss eatzis this is like a combination of Boston Market and eatzis! The food is cooked fresh and is great for lunch because it only takes a few minutes to get a nice homely meal. The 1/4 BBQ Chicken comes with two sides (of course I get the mac n cheese) and I also chose sweet potato ,to my shock to actually get an entire potato not some slab of mashed side potatoes ... To top it off you can have option of rolls or cornbread This was a good dinner portion and a bit big for my taste for lunch, but I would still come back! again and again... This location is always good for a nice meal and wonderful service. Knock on wood, we have yet to have a bad experience at this location. The food is always pretty fresh and comes out fast. The menu has been the same for quite some time, but why fix it if it isn't broken. You can also tell that the staff enjoys their job. The servers are always kind a professional no matter when you come in. We make an effort to come here a few times every couple of months.
