It shares the wider space with various small businesses including a little specialist food shop and it seems the laid back, earthy vibe is consistent throughout the building. I had been in once or twice for a takeaway coffee and liked the no frills layout. The open plan kitchen looks directly out to a small dining room, littered with kitsch tables and chairs. On this occasion, I was sitting down to their appetizing brunch menu. Having done the brunch thing to death around the city, I am always surprised to find new takes on classic dishes. Nelly's don't deviate too much from the norm, but enough to stand out from some of their competition. Both of us opt for the cheesy scrambled eggs on sourdough with bacon and avocado. The simple introduction of the eggs as 'cheesy' may have influenced my mildly hungover choice, but nevertheless, they hit the spot. The eggs were perfect and the bacon and avocado (more of a guacamole) were also delicious. The coffee was somewhat forgettable but the friendly service and relaxed atmosphere made up for that. I would say that in an area somewhat lacking in original brunch-serving cafes, Nellys is most certainly worth a visit.

If there is a queue it's worth the wait. I haven't had a Reuben sandwich probably since I left Canada in 2016 (Reuben's are American, but you can get them all over Canada too). Dark rye bread, corned beef, sauerkraut, swiss cheese, dill pickle, and Russian dressing. It was delicious. Pickles aren't a staple on Reuben sandwiches, but I love pickles and was happy with this addition. It adds a nice little tang, along with the dressing. The soup was warm and delicious with a bright tomato flavour. Soup changes daily. Portions were quite large. I just got the soup and sandwich and when I ordered I wondered if it would be enough. You might actually want to consider asking for half meat, they throw a huge amount of salami on there. Considering a packet of pastrami in a shop with like, four or five wafer thin slices is three or four euro, and a Pig and Heifer will put twice as much in sandwich for five or six euro, it's damn good value. The one on Amiens St is next door to smelly Subway, so I hope the Pig and Heifer will put them out of business.

We asked the employee how to pronounce the name, he stated the dh at the end is silent. Walking in, we were immediately greeted with friendly service. Since we were spankin new, he explained the menu. There's a kiosk to order, but he helped customize mine, since I'm dairy free. Woo hoo, yes! they offer dairy free cheese that melts!
