I can't believe my original post was 9 years ago. Of course, I still stand by what I said before…read morethat this park is amazing and dog-friendly. I will just give you the CliffNotes version in that the park is very clean - perfect for running/jogging, walking, and sitting around to enjoy the outdoors. Here's the new impression about how kid friendly it is. First off, I love their splash pad. The best part of it is it's free! We tend to go on cooler/cloudy days when the summer sun is not beating down on us. They have benches and tables for families to sit around the splash pad. You can't bring your pets or food to the area. After a lot of running and laughing, my son's eyes do get a little red from the chlorine, so wear glasses or goggles if you want to avoid this. Right next to the splash pad is the playground. I'm so glad that it is covered, so we can go when it's sunny outside, but not too hot. The playground is a good place for the kiddo to either warm up or cool down before the splash pad. I would say the splash pad is such a fun distraction that my son spends the majority of his time at the splash pad and the playground is just a second thought. It's never super crowded even on the weekends. Perfect amount of kids playing around. There's a nice private parking lot right next to the splash pad. I'll be back with the family again and again.

Still my most used stomping grounds even with all the construction in the area this remains a safe…read moreand serene place in those early morning walks, lined with wildflowers this time of year and the simmering of the water make for a pleasant and therapeutic walk.

I went to the pickleball beginner time. The facilities and front staff are good but the players…read moreare serious even though they see themselves as beginner or intermediate. Ive played a handful of times before in other states and always found people to be helpful, laughing and enjoying their play. Instead i found people who were so focused they don't smile let alone laugh. I wont be going back.

I seriously can't believe that no one has written about this place. Like, seriously!…read more The Roanoke Rec center is AWESOME! You can use if for $5 a day as a non-resident if you ever feel the need to go play some b-ball, volley ball, hit up some racket ball or work out for those days you're feeling extra out of shape. Cheaper if you are a resident. They also have monthly and yearly rates as well, which are reasonable. I think the husband and I paid a little more than $50 for unlimited use of the place for one months time. This was before the wedding, so it didn't last long. We haven't been back since, but again, we're pretty lazy people. Plus he's like, underweight so I'd rather he pig out at Jack in the Box anyway. But back to the Center. They have a pool even, and lots of classes you can sign up for (kids classes too). You can even take a course to get your concealed weapons licenses, and it's a no-fail class. They work with you until pass and I believe it's only $110. Rad deal if you ask me. If you're ever in the area, I high suggest hitting this place up for some good, healthy fun and exercise. It's worth it and good for you. Who doesn't want that? And by the way, the gym is totally not crowded like most other gyms, so ladies... if you want some alone time with that treadmill or stair climber, this is the place to go.
