Mangia Mangia Pizzeria - Sundance Mountain (seasonal special)

Mangia Mangia Pizzeria

This is a food truck located at the Lumpy Ridge Brewing Company, at least on Sundays. Google does…read morenot give the correct directions - when we followed them, we ended up in a random parking lot a block over. I recommend setting the GPS to the brewery rather than the truck. When we visited on Sunday after hiking at RMNP for the morning, there wasn't much of a crowd here. We ordered and the the food only took about 8 minutes to arrive. Meeker Margherita ($21) - Perfectly cooked crust in this pizza. The cornicione in particular is expertly risen and cooked, giving plenty of charred bubbles and the perfect chewiness. The undercarriage, while floppy, isn't soggy at all. It hold up very well to the ingredients on top. The crust is first slathered sparingly with tomato sauce. The sauce is reduced quite a bit and tastes almost like a concentrated tomato paste. They don't use a lot so it doesn't soak into the crust at all. On top, there's a couple of pieces of basil giving a very noticeably fresh aroma. There's plenty of melted mozzarella cheese, which seem to be of the pearl variety, mild tasting and stretchy. They apparently also drizzle some EVOO, although there's no particular peppery or fruity notes, or heck any real olive oil flavor at all. With how well all the other ingredients worked together, the olive oil is very disappointing. Still, it's a very well constructed pizza. (5/5) Panorama Peak ($23) - Again, this pizza has the perfect crust. Instead of tomato sauce, it's slathered with ricotta cheese, making the pizza very rich and creamy. More melted mozzarella on top of that for even more fatty richness, then pieces of proscuitto, chewy and salty. The meat isn't sliced that well so it's messy to eat. They then essentially cover the pizza with an arugula, tomato, and shaved parmesan salad. The arugula is super peppery and bitter, the tomatoes are fresh and sweet, and the parmesan adds more saltiness. The main sources of salt are the parmesan and the proscuitto. Neither are added in large enough quantities to make the pie overly salty. Mixed in the with the arugula are a couple of stems of cilantro for some reason. Nothing on the menu actually uses cilantro so I'm a bit confused where it comes from. It's essentially a salad on pizza dough so everything falls off the crust very easily making it messy to eat. (4/5) I'm very impressed with the food served at Mangia Mangia. I didn't expect to find such great pizza in a small touristy mountain town. I'll be back next time I'm in the area! River's Edge - Pulled pork sandwich, waffle fries, baked beans, brisket tacos.

The trailer is set up in the Rock Shop parking lot so you can tour some gift shops. It's a nice big bbq and the smell draws you in. The lady was working all day going back and forth tending the meat so you can tell they're smart with it. Prices are average but the sides I think are too much at $5 each. I got a Pork sandwich for ten bucks and a side of slaw. Other sides were potato salad, beans, and others I probably should have got instead. I love coleslaw with bbq pork sandwiches since you can add it on top for a nice contrast with the meat. The pork was tasty and juicy but a tad plain. The sauce was a tomato based bbq sauce that was good but I like it a bit sweeter and thinner. But there's a hundred ways to make sauce so it was fine. The coleslaw, which I expected to be pretty good for five bucks, was the sloppiest presentation and effort. They opened a grocery store bag of cabbage and carrots, and threw on way too much store bought Lighthouse dressing. How do I know? Cause I buy the same thing, but you're supposed to mix it together, chill it, and season it a bit. Rather than proper bbq slaw, this is salad with coleslaw dressing. When you mix it earlier, the veges soak in the flavor. And adding some vinegar helps get the taste right. Haven't tried the other sides but hopefully they're a bit better. Might stop again but not till they abandon that store bought stuff.

It even got better seating in an Adirondack chair by the creek side listening to the water. So relaxing! I might have put my feet in the water. Great relief from hiking boots. This place is definitely on our list to return to for our next visit. Enjoy! I have to add that I was so relaxed I forgot my purse on Thursday. To make a long story short, some really nice person turned it in to the food truck. After calling & leaving a message, the security guy called back to say my purse was safely found and placed in a secure place. Thank you all involved in finding it:))) It is great to know there are still honest and kind people in the world!!!
