There's not a lot of options around which makes this place even more special. Food is consistent, delicious, fairly priced, and quick.

We stopped at Java Lava Cafe for breakfast on our way to Denver, and it ended up being one of the…read morebest stops of our trip. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful right from the start--especially when my wife was deciding what to order. They even suggested the option of getting a half burrito for half the price, which was a great tip and much appreciated. She went with the Mama's Burrito (with bacon), and I had the Christy Breakfast Burrito. We both had ours smothered in the green chile (pork) sauce--highly recommend. Both were excellent. The chorizo in the Christy was especially well done--full of flavor without being greasy. My wife loved hers, and the half portion ended up being perfect. We also had coconut lattes, which were smooth and really well balanced. Even though you order at the counter, the staff checked in on us several times, which added a nice personal touch. The space is bright and welcoming with lots of natural light. It's in a strip mall, but being on the end gives it a more open feel. The Southwest, slightly kitschy décor fits the vibe well. We noticed a steady stream of regulars and to-go orders, which says a lot. Places don't stay busy--or around this long--without doing things right. If you're anywhere near Granby, this place is absolutely worth a stop.

With all the hubbub, it was amazingly quiet. Everyone was talking and enjoying their meals, yet we had no problems hearing each other. The coffee gal had our coffees to us asap, with water, and kept them full the entire meal. Our waitress, Keeley greeted us with a warm smile and friendly demeanor. And before we knew it, our meals were served up hot and oh so scrumptious! I definitely recommend - it's worth the 5-10 minute wait! You won't be disappointed! Be sure to bring a to go container for your leftovers - they use styrofoam

It was featured on Diner's Drive-ins and Dives with a plaque and wall art to confirm. We got a table quickly and the service was attentive and fast despite that they were busy. They offered mimosas and bloody Mary's to complete the breakfast experience which we chose to partake. My husband got the smothered breakfast burrito and said it was very tasty. I chose to the Prairie Rose Omelet with hash browns and sourdough toast. I loved the omelet which was fluffy and flavorful. The sourdough toast was very good as well, toasted perfect and many jams to choose from on the table. They had famous sweet rolls that sell out quickly, so I took one to go just to make sure I tried one. It was very good, even the next day. The low point was the overcooked crunchy hash browns that didn't add much to the meal and I didn't eat them all. I would definitely recommend this place if your looking for a super breakfast.

I don't think this is the name of this place anymore. I think it's the Howlin' Coyote. When I grew…read moreup it was just the Cookhouse and I feel bad for anyone trying overcome the long shadow of that 80s-era legend. But this most recent iteration is really good. Back in the day--back when the Cookhouse was known as much for good food as it was for explosive domestic disputes between the owners--it was a weekend destination for people driving hours over mountain passes. I'm going to go so far to say that I think it's that good again. Is there italics on this thing? Well, imagine I used italics. I'm very reluctant to saunter out of the sunshine and into the decades of memories from the place (I worked there most of my childhood, washing dishes and witnessing some very, very grownup activity), but we were up for the Gould Ski Scramble and took the whole family. My kids had the French toast and my wife some kind of egg breakfast and the food was good enough to overcome my prattling on about how I'd pretty much grown up at the bar. And now you, too, get to suffer my nostalgia but, I'm telling ya, your reading this review and deciding to try the new Cookhouse/Drifter's Cookhouse/Howlin' Coyote is totally worth it. Gould is a beautiful area despite the growing cavalcade of RVs towing trailers with little golf cart dune buggies so vacationing city dwellers can *checks notes* leave the busy traffic of the city to create busy traffic in the country. I digress (again) and, still, it seems what I'm pretty sure is called the Howlin' Coyote is worthy part of your journey.

My husband got a chicken sandwich that he thought was yummie but then add on two lemonades and our bill was $32. And no refills on the lemonade :( If you don't mind dropping the coin, it's a nice place to sit outside and eat and the food was good - but NOT great and that's what I'd expect for the $$.
