Shrimp Cigars-cream cheese, bits of shrimp and seasoning.
Lisa A.

Staff was very hospitable from the gentleman who greeted us at the door to the staff who seated and served us. It was one of the only restaurants that wasn't "over heated"- we actually tried 2 other places but the heating was on so high, we left before being served. Atmosphere: funky, old school style, we had the hamburger and fries, and the shrimp cigars. The bun was a "little" dry, with the altitude we heard it can happen, overall the burgers and fries were good, not exceptionally-but not bad either. The Shrimp Cigars-very filling and tasty. They tasted very fresh-not frozen. (Not sure if they were frozen-either way, they were delicious.) I would definitely get them again-my only regret, they were so filling I didn't get to try anything else on the menu.

Interesting and comfy atmosphere albeit slightly chilly; and mind you, I went in the autumn. The service is prompt, responsive, and friendly. Food-wise, I recommend coming here if only for the fact that so many exotic meats are represented here, particularly in sometimes uncommon fashion. The prices are a bit high for the area and execution, however; and to that end, I would note the items range from a C- to borderline C/C+ in terms of enjoyment. If you're a cityzen, you definitely want to visit here with your party and try 4 or 5 different exotic meats. As I am not seasoned enough in exotic meats to exactly determine such, but I am an avid eater (and carnivore) all the same, I will caveat my judgment of quality of ingredients to be slightly below average; with execution and seasoning being the main culprit as to why the items are not fleshed out to their full potential.

OMG!! I LOVE everything about this restaurant!!! The service AND food was the perfect end to a beautiful day exploring Estes Park! The appetizers were amazing and the ribs were so good!! I can't recommend this place enough!! We also got to meet the owner who started working there in the kitchen when he was in school. Love supporting local businesses!

Cowboy burger with elk patty and onion rings.

While in Estes Park with my cousin, we were in search of a restaurant downtown with game meat. We viewed the menu outside Grubsteak and decided to stop in. The menu offered starters, salads and soups, entrees like game meatloaf (antelope, boar, venison, & elk), burgers (beef, yak, bison, elk, or inpossible), desserts, & drinks. We sat at a picnic table outside on a cool evening with cold beers where we could see a bit of the view over the fence. We started with wild boar stuffed mushroom caps and shrimp cigars. Two starters was a good option to share for three to four people. I would order the mushrooms again, but maybe not the shrimp cigars. We each had a burger for our main entree and subbed onion rings for fries. If you like thick cut onion rings, this is the choice to make. Two of us had elk burgers, and my cousin ordered the yak. The burgers were built well, but I'd say slightly over cooked. We all had a green chile on our burgers which was great. We also each had a beer. I had an Odell Friek sour beer, my cousin ordered a Guinness, & my partner had a michelada which was surprisingly nice and spicy! Our server and runners were very attentive, helpful, and responsive. Overall, I would give the food 3 stars and service 5 stars.

Elk burger ask for medium rate got well-done

This was my step sons choice. First it was way over priced and the burgers all of them were over cooked. Why ask how you want it cooked of you can not cook them correctly. Service was average at best large party tip was added 18%. 4 meals with 2 beers $150.. what a waste

I didn't have the greatest experience at grub steak. Even though the restaurant was not busy, the service was extremely slow and my group was only getting drinks. On top of that, the drinks we ordered came out tasting different each time. Very large patio to hang out if it's a nice day/night! Some cocktail options if that's what you're looking for.

Dined here with my wife. We both had the Buffalo Ribeye and it was outstanding. You won't find a better steak in Estes. Highly recommend.

Excellent Food and Service in a Very Busy Estes Park Favorite…read more Executive Summary: A fantastic dinner with fresh, well-executed dishes, strong cocktails, and outstanding service. Easily a 5-star experience and highly recommended. We booked a 6:00 p.m. Sunday reservation through Resy and were seated immediately. The restaurant was very busy, which felt like a good sign. One thing to note: parking is VERY difficult. You may need to park kitty-corner at the grocery store lot and walk across. We started with the Beets & Bibb salad, which was outstanding--fresh, thinly sliced crunchy beets, crisp dried chickpeas for texture, grapes for sweetness, and a honey vinaigrette with just enough acidity to balance everything. The cornbread arrived warm and freshly baked with black garlic butter. It was light rather than dense and very enjoyable. For an entrée, the Carnivore was excellent. Both the elk and petite filet had a beautiful sear and were cooked perfectly to temperature, accompanied by a flavorful reduction and seared broccolini. Our second entrée was the trout with a side petite filet. The fish was well seasoned and cooked perfectly. By the end of dinner we were far too full to try the desserts, although they looked tempting. We also had a couple of cocktails--strong, flavorful pours. Our server, Ian, was friendly, efficient, and attentive throughout the evening. Excellent service despite how busy the restaurant was. Overall, Bird & Jim delivered great food, great drinks, and great service. Highly recommended--5 stars.

The cocktails are always spectacular and creative. We love the trio of spreads, smoked trout, pimento cheese and hummus. Bring your wallet and be prepared for the significant price tag. Not dense like a cannon ball but substantial and wonderfully balanced with 85 other elements that were equally transcendent Pickled chilis (50/10) we got the chilis as a starter but ended up using it on EVERYTHING AND I MEAN EVEN THE PEAR SORBET AT DESSERT and we put the brine in the farmers soup which was ridiculously good Salad (10/10) sound simple but most salads are either underdressed or over dressed and drowning out their main characters in a torrent but this was perfectly addictive- if I could make this at home, I'd be a stone lighter Foghorn leghorn (25/10) - we ordered an extra chicken to split for the table with dessert so everyone could try AND a man who detests chicken breast ABSOLUTELY SWOONED over this dish Three sisters (15/10) every element was crunchy, creamy, light, umami, surprising Hunny pot (15/10) this thing got DRAGGED across the table by everyone to try Cod entree (10/10) it's a filling, firm, perfectly poached fish with amazing compliments PORTIONS: filling and hearty AND gorgeously plated PRICE: appropriate, maybe even a steal! BONUS TIP: no dogs, at least not on that day; we were a party of 6 and I don't think the patio tables could accommodate that but I don't know the policy

The hostess was very sweet, and went above and beyond when the table reserved for us wasn't open yet. Our waiter was very polite and energetic. They really made us feel like we were friends or family. It seemed like they sell more wine than cocktails so the cocktail menu is a little small, but the drinks were delicious. We got the Smoked Old Fashioned with applewood and the Bramble w/ tequila and lime. This was hands down the best food we had in Estes Park. We shared the Bistro Salad, the Three Sisters, and the Cod dish. OMG!!! The food was SOOOOO GOOOD!!!! Everything was flavorful, balanced, and well prepared. I highly recommend you eat here.

I will say, in honesty, it's not the cheapest place to go to but for what you're getting it's amazing. Taxidermies all over, antler chandeliers, they really bring out the old west trapper decor on you. As for the food - my wife and I just had dinner for the third time (we come every time we visit RMNP) and my dinner was perfect. Perfect. Started with the Elk Carpaccio, she had a "bees knees" cocktail and I had a beer. For the main course she had the bison ravioli, and I had the bison NY strip "bison Oscar". Steak was cooked perfectly (medium) and it was all so flavorful and well presented and out waiter was super nice and attentive. We finished it out with a creme brûlée Paid about $140 for everything but it's worth every penny for what you're getting! would recommend to anyone who's looking for something a little different or exotic from the run of the mill you'd get anywhere else

Good food and decent service.

There was a lot of tender meat and the dish was very flavorful. I had the reuben and it was excellent. One of the best I have had. The fries were crispy and coated with a delicious seasoning. I also had a cup of the soup of the day, beef with vegetables and barley. It was very good and I was inspired to make my own after we returned. When I tell you that even Chili's has better chips and guac... the guac was definitely not freshly made. You can even tell by looking at the pictures of it. It was watery and had a weird consistency. Salsa was definitely jarred and the queso was watery and bland. I got the trout for my entree which came with roasted potatoes and salad. Again... bland. The potatoes literally had no seasoning except a drizzle of balsamic glaze. Salad barely had dressing. I wish I was being dramatic, but when I tell you that nothing had any flavor. My boyfriend had the quesadilla which was definitely overpriced for what it was. Part of his quesadilla was empty. I'm not cheap when it comes to food, but the price we paid for this less than mediocre food was insane.
