She let us pick a table and said our server would be there shortly. Hazel stopped by shortly after and apologized for the wait (we didn't really wait). She took our drink order and said she'd be right back, she was. Having not been there before, we asked for recommendations. She gave us several but was not overwhelming. She was super patient when we went to order and gave us excellent opinions about our selections. The fried calamari was yummy, breaded just right and flavorfull. The main courses came out quickly and prepared to perfection. I got the ribeye (thanks Hazel!) while my family got seafood. It was hard to pick from all the amazing sides, my wife contemplated having only sides for her meal! Hazel was very attentive and even indulged me when I asked a bunch of questions. All in all, a HUGE win where I didn't expect it. Thank you Hazel and the Fishin Hole for a memorable meal and evening.

They asked us to have a seat and said it would be just a few minutes. After watching three other families come in and get seated right away we were still waiting. 30 minutes later we finally got seated. They ended up making us wait until another family had finished and left. It took forever for them to take our drink orders. And thankfully everybody already knew what we wanted to order so we went ahead and ordered at the same time. We ordered fried pickles. They are the absolute worst fried pickles I've ever had. You could not even taste a pickle flavor. They were so thin that the batter dehydrated them. No flavor at all other than salt. Then came the extremely long wait for our food. Looking around the room everyone was having to wait and extremely long wait for their food. As people that were seated before us still had no food. When our food arrived, all of the adult meals came out but the two kids meals which were just hamburgers and fries took over another full 5 minutes or more before they brought them out. Waitresses were not spending anytime filling drinks. When she did ask my husband about needing more water he said yes he was going to need more water, but she never brought any more out. I ordered the country fried steak. The batter was very dark and color like it was overcooked or cooked in old grease. One of the patties could not be eaten because it was so overcooked and burnt. The green beans were very mushy my mashed potatoes and gravy were cold. My daughter ordered fried okra and it was cold. The cornbread muffin was so small, my guess is it was the last of the batter being used. I could have eaten it in one bite. But it was so dry and flavorless that I chose to leave it on my plate. When the waitress finally asked how everything was I told her about our experience with the overcooked country fried steak and the cold okra and cold mashed potatoes and gravy. My husband ordered prime rib and it was way overcooked versus prime rib that you see at other restaurants. My mother's steak was overcooked and her grilled shrimp came out cold. The waitress brought out replacement mashed potatoes and gravy and replacement fried okra. I asked her about taking something off of the bill since I could not eat half of my dinner. She tried to say that the mashed potatoes and okra that she brought out were extra helpings, but I explained to her they were not extra that they were replacement for what was cold. I was not asking for a replacement country fried steak but I would like something off of my ticket. She finally agreed and took $5 off. Also with us having two children in our group they gave us one children's menu. These are the menus that have a coloring page on the back. We had to ask for a second kids menu and had to ask for the crayons. When our food came we also had to ask for silverware. Do not waste your time waiting to be seated and do not waste your time waiting for your food here. It is not worth it. They definitely have issues in the kitchen, as I was checking out I heard the waitress say that she had to make peach muffins because no one else had done it and they had run out. Overall I felt like I was in a living episode of Gordon Ramsay's kitchen nightmares.

Hello my little yelplings! I'm not sure if I'm just lucky today after my past week of weird…read morecircumstances, but I actually landed excellent barbecue, in back-to-back visits of barbecue joints! For those of you who don't read my reviews, only about one in five barbecue joints I go to make the cut. The last one that didn't make the cut, was that fast food place Smokin Ds in St Augustine Florida. Anyhow, let's get to Big J's. I'm parked across the street, which I park at semi often, and throughout the years, and have only been next door at the vape shop in the strip mall. I think the other times I've came by they were closed, but they weren't closed today and I kind of expected them to be. I wanted to have supper here last night, but I had to go endure tragedy at the Mexican restaurant in the same row. I noticed they were open today, so I mosied it over about 1:00 p.m. The place is really clean, it's a family run outfit, and they are ALL SO nice. So I wanted a brisket plate, but the nice young gentleman behind the counter told me that it wasn't ready and it would be ready in an hour, so I came back at 2:00 p.m.. I ordered brisket, collards and green beans. Again if you don't follow me, you don't know my culinary history and that on the smoke pit, but this place was just about as good as my own. My collards were fabulous, green beans were off the chain, my brisket was hot, tender and moist. So good! They went above and beyond, the young gentleman at the counter asked me if I was a truck driver after placing my order, which I am an O/O, and I got something free or got a discount, not too sure what it was but I got something! That means a lot, we spend weeks and months away from our families to bring ungrateful people the things they want, so it's a little gestures like that that really makes a difference to us. Well they definitely have a lifetime customer. I just have to make sure when I pull here that they're open. But I'll definitely be back! ***DISCLAIMER*** This pure, uncut, honest review is federally protected under Federal Law by way of Bill #EO14149. We handed a huge menu but was told nothing on the second page is available that plan said lunch specials and only select items only the first and third page And if they were also out of a couple different vegetables So let's play safe I opted for a club sandwich with coleslaw and fries After my order was placed, it was 28 minutes before I got my sandwich or shall I say my 1/2 of a sandwich Upon delivery, I guess the waitress noticed the far off look at my eye and the puzzled look. I was giving her and she asked me is everything OK? I asked her where is the other half of my sandwich she looked at it. And replied " well I don't know. I wondered why they only gave you half a sandwich, but it does have 3 pieces of bread in it." At this point another waitress came over the first waitress asked why did they give him a half a sandwich? The second waitress replied I just think that's how they're doing things now. The first waitress that asked me, would you like the rest of your sandwich?? I replied yes that would be great So off to the kitchen, she went and 15 minutes later comes my other half Apparently, this is their way of saving money. If you only give the customer half of what they order and try to pass it off as a full order. Employees are definitely not over enthusiastic to wait on you or to be very personable at all. Overall, pretty dissatisfying experience will definitely not be stopping by again
