The tech Richard was very patient as he explained to me. What needed to be repaired and got it all done the same day as the initial visit which worked out because he didn't have to order parts. He came prepared. He took time to also explain a few other things to help my pull vacuum, run more efficiently and made some suggestions. Very pleased with this company. Collectively, the locations in Phoenix have the fewest amenities of any YMCA in the country. And because I have relocated over 14 times over the last 25 years, I can confidently make that claim. For instance, the YMCAs in phoenix - which I believe is a total of six clubs in a city of over 5 million people - only have one functional sauna and no steam room facilities TOTAL. In addition to this, not all of the locations have a pool, including the downtown location, which you think would be a key location. No, the scottsdale location doesn't have either! And in general, the locations are pretty dated with equipment that averages 20 years of age or more. The one functional sauna in the downtown Phoenix Location is probably close to closing as the wood planks, and several areas have either been replaced because of age or are currently heavily splintered. And while there is a steam room, it has a sign on it that says permanently closed and it looks like it hasn't been functioning since the late 70s. The YMCA board of directors should be embarrassed with the overall condition of their operation in Phoenix. Even in Tucson, a much smaller city about an hour south, the downtown location has steam, sauna, and a swimming pool. Fortunately, for me, I am relocating again to Savannah, Georgia where I have already confirmed the YMCA there has the amenities that I would expect, and even have a 24 hour format, which is a really nice benefit. Here's hoping that the YMCA patrons of Phoenix are given more for their money in the future.

Of course, the police have bigger fish to fry and lifetime does not stand behind their members safety although they will gladly charge you $300+ a month. Our lifeguard was a party lifesaver!! I will never throw a…read moreparty without them! Our lifeguard was professional, courteous and very competent. We had 25 boys at our house and he kept the kids from getting hurt by stopping any dangerous horseplay by blowing his whistle and giving clear direction without being mean or intimidating. He constantly kept a watchful eye over the kids in the pool while I enjoyed our party and our guests. Knowing that the kids were all safe in the pool was priceless!!

The new swim school is absolutely fabulous. My 5 year old has taken lessons at other swim schools in town and they all felt like a 'factory' and they spent 15 minutes of a 30 minute class just coming back up to speed on what they did before... or they spent 2/3 of the class against the wall playing with another kid. This is not the case at J Swim Academy, He has small classes (2-4 kids) and the teacher really gets to know each kid's development in the pool so that you see ongoing improvement all the time. He is watching/learning feedback from each kid and the teachers really know him. He has improved IMMENSELY! We go 2 times per week and he LOVES going to swim school here. Debbie and Anne manage the swim school and they do an amazing job. They know every kid and work to accommodate schedules and make-up lessons. On top of all the great lessons, the pool facility is UNBELIEVABLE. They have the nicest splashpad I've ever seen, so my kids play before/after lessons... They have a good size lesson pool and then the main pool has racing and play area. The play area is shallow for a lot of the space, so little kids can really play safely in a huge setting. The entire place is just fabulous. We now spend most weekends just hanging out there after lessons. 5 stars is incredibly well deserved!
