We just finished our second winter/spring at Lori's swim school. I am eternally thankful for our swim instructor Linnea. Both of my children at 3 & 4 are strong independent swimmers. Both know multiple strokes and can dive to the bottom of our pool. It is such a good feeling to know both children are water safe. The reason for my 1 star rating is for the owner of the swim school. I don't know what happened, but recently things have changed, and for this reason we will not be coming back. When the la camarilla closed, classes were moved to melrose community pool. It is a much more run down facility, classes were being over run by school parties that were distracting at best. Lori seemed off multiple times at the new location. One day her phone rang, she jumped out of the pool to answer DURING a lesson. She left her two students with the other instructor who already had 2 students. 1 instructor should not have 4 small children in water who are needing swim lessons. This is careless, unprofessional, and unsafe. At one point Lori had classes at her home. My daughter was crying because the water was so cold. Her pool is NOT heated! So cold that that my 3 year olds lips were STILL blue after we got home! This was our last lesson. I am done with the shenanigans. SHAME on you for letting money be more important than these small children's health. Thank you Linnea, I am so sad to hear she has left the school, but understand why if she was having to put up with this kind of instability and lack of integrity. read more

This has been an excellent experience for my son! We had been attending other "swim schools" in town over the past year, but did not seem to be progressing in skills at all. When I started asking around, Lori's name was recommended by several people so we decided to give it a try. Within 4 weeks my two year old son was swimming!! My husband and I could not be happier with the results! We are now planning to swim year around with Lori's, he has just turned 3 and learning back stroke, side stroke and of course the front crawl. read more

Started my son there at 4. This is located at La Camarillo Tennis club (it is separate from the club, independently owned and operated - I think). The pool is located Outdoors, which as far as I am concerned is the only way to swim! This is owned by a woman. Lori, who either answers her phone directly or calls you back right away. My son LOVED all of his coaches. This place was not a zoo. It is well run, calm, and not a bunch of chaos. Which can be caused when people try to over book their companies (Hubbard comes to mind). My son looked forward to going every week. Not only did he have a lot of fun, he is water safe! It seems a bit pricey, but is worth the money for my peace of mind. I don't dread going (as I did at Hubbard). He is in a safe, clean environment and has a ball! read more

My son (2.5 years old) was enrolled in swim lessons here at Lori's swim school in Scottsdale. We chose this place because they had great reviews and was guaranteed to be professional and teach him to swim in 2 months. During his 3rd swim lesson while the swim instructor was working with the other boy in the class, my son fell in the water and was unable to pull himself out. He was under long enough for my husband to notice that he was under the water, so he ran around the pool to the other side and pulled him out before the instructor, the assistant instructor AND the pool guard noticed what was going on. When he came out he was gasping for air and obviously freaked out. My husband sternly told the instructor that he couldn't believe he was saving our son from drowning at SWIM LESSONS. Long story short we quit the school and requested a refund. Afterwards we took him to the hospital to make sure he didn't inhale any water and they cleared him. The mother of the other boy in the class also quit and asked for a refund because she witnessed the whole incident and was very shook up. The owner of the school (Lori) apologized profusely and told us she took full responsibility, would meet all our demands, & would do whatever she could to make it right. Here we are a month later and the owner of the company just sent us an email saying that the refund for the swim lessons is sufficient and she won't be paying for our hospital bill. So obviously I'm furious, and disappointed that she would go back on her word. All I keep thinking is what would've happened if my husband wasn't there, how long would it have been before anyone noticed that my son was drowning? I have spoken to other parents in my Scottsdale mom's group and a client of mine that also attends Lori's and they both mentioned the instructors seem to be more distracted than normal lately. I was more than willing to handle this issue quietly and let a mistake be a mistake, but now I am extremely upset and disappointed in the way they are handling or rather, not handling this situation and will be taking further action. read more

Lori was very unprofessional on a field trip to Melrose pools made my 6 year son cry, called him a weak swimmer in front of all the Kids (him being the only one) out of a group of 100 Yelled at myself his mother because I was not going to let her belittle my child. Melrose Pools is a terrific pool have been in this community for over 16 years and has been several times. Her other stuff was fabulous Kyleigh, Nick wonder people. I've never spent so much money on one swim lesson! $70, you have got to be kidding me. Make sure you know everything before moving forward. Lori let me know that she was going to be able to work with our schedule of once a week for my girls. I was so happy and took them to class, which we enjoyed. However, the bill came after and I couldn't believe the mark up. She charged extra because we were only going one time a week. This was never told to me before. I let her know that we would not be able to continue if that was rate. She had no problem canceling my class, but charged me the enrollment and cancellation fee. Are you kidding me? I would have never signed up if she just told me the original price. I guess that is why she only had one other student in the class. Warning!!!! read more

I felt compelled to write a review after yet ANOTHER summer where we hear about children drownings, and public announcements, in/around water. My daughter, now 6, and son, now 4, started swimming with Ms. Lori at 6-mos old and I couldn't have enough praise for her and how confident my children are now in water. While fences, doors and other precautions are necessary they are false securities. The only thing we can do is to ensure our children know what to do when they are in, or around, water! Lori gave me full security in that - my oldest now swims with a Jr. Swim team, swimming full meters (with 3-diff strokes), and my son is 100% comfortable and confident swimming (even laps) at 4! The lessons are a commitment for parents, but in a few short months, Lori and her team can provide parents immense pride, comfort and a greater sense of security for your children in and around water!! read more

I've had both my kids in swim classes since they were 5 months old and at 3 and 4 years old neither were swimming. Within 2 classes with Ms. Ashley BOTH were able to turn over and float and by 3 classes BOTH were swimming. I cannot say enough good things about their teaching. Don't waste your time at the other schools. read more

We love Lori's Swim School!! My 4yo has been doing lessons with the lovely Miss Linnea for 3 months. I am super impressed with his skill set in such a short time. Just yesterday he swam the entire length of the lap pool!! All the instructors at Lori's are firm but kind. Lori's good with geezers, too! I woke up one morning and decided to do a sprint distance triathlon at age 63. Am happy in the water, but never learned proper form for the crawl (freestyle it's called now) stroke. It's the breathing I never quite got. Am in good shape and could swim a mile...as long as I was wearing mask and snorkel. Told all of this to Lori on my first phone call (which she returned promptly). She was entirely reassuring and convinced me she could show me what to do in just a few minutes...and she did that and more! Everything she offered was simple, practical and effective. At my lesson, she watched me swim a few feet using my own "technique" (hah!), then asked: "Do you have trouble with your shoulders? If you don't, you're going to". I was keeping my head too high (Didn't want to be too far from fresh air, I think), which put my shoulders at a bad angle and caused my lower body to sink down. Over the next 10 minutes, she had me keeping my face pointed down to the bottom of the pool, then turning to breathe with my head looking back into my armpit while making sure one eye and ear stayed under. That's all it took! I especially appreciate that she found a single key element and repeatedly emphasized: "Just practice your breathing". 'Cause I could otherwise easily try to fix 12 different things like all the youtube videos say. But this one single thing she showed me has got me up swimming 300 meters smoothly, and I've ditched my mask and snorkel. She didn't try to up-sell me into a 'program' I didn't need, or crank me through a fixed approach to make me perfect. She offered just exactly what I needed! She also had great advice on my upcoming tri, helping me select goggles and swim gear. I'm looking forward to going back after I've practiced some more so she can critique the habits I've started to form. read more

I wish I could give Lori's 5 stars, but i cant. My kid started a few months ago and was progressing tremendously!!! Ms. Ashley, a 5++ star teacher, does an awesome job with the kids. She is enthusiastic and makes every class fun, while teaching skills and safety rules to her students. Without much explanation, our instructor changed toward the end of a session. I was not as happy, as the new instructor was younger and seemed lacking in enthusiasm and experience. I would love to find out where Ms. Ashley is teaching now and I am hoping she comes back to Lori's at some point, as i will re-enroll as soon as she does. It is so important for our kids to get good foundational swimming classes in az, and to find an instructor both our children and we, as parents, are comfortable with. Also, please dont switch instructors mid session without giving a heads up to parents. There is a stark difference in the skill level of instructors at this swim school. Make sure you know which instructor you have signed your child up with. Overall, we had a great experience with Ms. Ashley and am very thankful we found her at Lori's swim school. read more
