Oh NO. :( This place has changed hands and the new owners, I'm sad to say, have changed a lot of things for the negative, and so it's with a very sad heart I must update my review and lower it to two stars. We were so excited to be going thru Dayton again so we could stop here for breakfast. The last time we came it was so clean and neat and the food was delicious. Imagine our dismay, then, upon entering to have our noses assaulted with a horrible foul smell of rancid grease. It was so thick and obnoxious that I wanted to back out right away! The next thing we noticed was how unkempt and untidy the restaurant had become. We instantly were concerned that RR had changed hands. Service was uncharacteristically slow. The waitress was nice, but was also alternately trying to do that "isn't it funny that I'm so ornery" thing and it was NOT working. She should just stick to being nice. The menu was not as we remembered; the prices certainly weren't, that's for sure! They'd gone up quite a bit. Since we were starving, we struggled to ignore the horrible smell and the bad vibes we were getting and ordered a breakfast burrito and a chile verde omelet. It took a long time for the food to be prepared. When it came out, upon initial inspection the plates held good portion sizes, and nothing was burned, so we dug in. But sadly, that first bite let us know this was not the same fantastic RR Cafe we knew and loved! The omelet was tough and the filing was not house made. It was a canned chili verde, and a bad one at that. It tasted like metal and the meat was gray and gross. What was worse was the omelet itself had a lot of broken egg shells in it - it was horrible, and we could not finish it. The potatoes kind of looked like the same ones, but now they tasted off, like perhaps the grease used to cook them was old or something. That would explain the rancid smell we were being subjected to. The potatoes, too, went uneaten. The breakfast burrito was a large flour tortilla containing plain chunks of a very gristly ham, overcooked scrambled eggs and something that appeared to be very overcooked green pepper. No wonder our food had taken so long to come out - the line cook had been busy overcooking absolutely everything. The burrito was very bland and plain. And I love cheese, I really do, but when I saw all that cheese just unceremoniously glooped on the top with nothing else to leaven all that orange (no sprinkle of green? no bits of fresh tomato? nothing?) well, it just wasn't appetizing to me. But as I couldn't eat the inside of the burrito, I just ate some of the outside with the cheese. Which was boring. So I added some of the salsa provided on the side but that actually made it worse: since it was crappy canned salsa, now it really tasted like I was struggling to eat a cheaply made quesadilla. So I gave up. The waitress came over, saw our full plates, and asked if everything was alright. We explained there were eggshells in the omelet (that's all we said, I did not mention our great disappointment about everything else) and she said, "Oh". I did say the food tasted different, and asked her if the restaurant had new owners, and she said yes, it had been sold over 6 months before, and she pointed to a photo of the new owners on the wall. She then walked away and went to talk to a very large man standing in the back (he was the man in the photo, so I knew he was the new owner) and I heard her say "they found eggshells in their omelet" but he just shrugged and walked away. So she came back and said "here's your bill" and that was that. Because the waitress tried to be nice, and because I have to admit, bad tasting or not, the food portions are large (even though the prices are now large, too) I'll give it two stars instead of one. But sadly, because things have so dramatically changed for the worse here, I just can't see myself ever going back. What a shame. This used to be the only good place to eat breakfast in Dayton. The people were friendly enough when we walked in we were greeted and welcomed, but the place was pretty dirty and felt run down, The waitress walked by are empty coffee cups two times. The food left a lot to be desired, I had the Spanish omelette and it was flat absolutely no flavor, The waitress completely over buttered my toast it was swimming - swimming in butter, not to mention the fact that she was running the cash register and touching my food... I was completely grossed out and will never returns this place again. read more

We stopped here for breakfast while we were there for Street Vibes- Wonderful service, very friendly and fast- Food was amazing! We had the omelet with feta, spinach and bacon... Wow- the potatoes were wonderful too- not greasy at all. Great job guys! Thanks for the hospitality. read more

I have gone here a few times while in town visiting my parents. I really like this place. The service is friendly and the food here is really good. I'm a sucker for breakfast food, and their french toast is awesome. All the pictures/cartoons/comics they have on the walls and at the tables under the glass are entertaining and make this diner a fun little place. read more

Just discovered this little jewel a few months ago, and if you like biscuits and gravy...chicken fried steak and down home style cooking then this is the place to get it! The staff is friendly and on top of their game, my coffee cup did not go empty. Sunday mornings may be a bit busy with the church crowd, but they have two dining rooms so no worries. I came here expecting big plates and great flavor. Boy was i wrong! I ordered the chicken fried steak. The steak portion was small maybe 5"x 4", same with the hash browns. The toast had way too much fake butter. The gravy was bland. And i totally thought country gravy had sausage in it!? The lady got the stuffed French toast. It was pretty good. Didnt enjoy the whole apple slices, thought it wouldve been better diced. The kid got the buscuits and gravy. The portion was half the size it was the last time the lady cane with the kids. The buscuits were dry and fell right apart and became a mushy mess with the gravy. Carson City and surrounding areas your food sucks, you need to step up your game! read more

We've been coming here for breakfast for 2 years now. Every time it has been great, and the prices are just right. RR has a nice family vibe and is always busy in the mornings, but we've never waited more than 10 minutes. My daughter loves their French toast, and I'm particular to the country omelette. Lunch time burgers are really good, too! Service is always friendly with smiles. Needless to say, this is our breakfast and lunch spot. read more

We enjoyed our first visit to the Road Runner Cafe. The service was fast and friendly. The portions were large. We had the cinnamon roll, Weyle omelet, and eggs and bacon. All very good and more than we could eat. Do not remember seeing an item on the breakfast menu over $10. read more

This place is great for what it is: a roadside diner in BFE Nevada. I laugh at snobs who expect a taste of the French Riveria and germaphobes incensed at seeing the cook talk on a phone. Granted, there's no candlelight, their parking lot is gravel, and the menus are 100% plastic. But they provide decent food for decent prices and the wait staff is friendly. If your grasp of reality is at least somewhat firm, this place will not disappoint. read more

Reuben sandwich was less than stellar. Could have used corned beef as advertised on menu. Sauerkraut was practically nonexistent even after the words "extra sauerkraut" were added to the order. Got confused and thought it was a ham and cheese sandwich. I'm sure breakfast is better. read more

New owners make a difference. It's nice to have a great place to have breakfast or lunch with no casino noise in the background. Food is really good and fantastic specials. I had stuffed french toast and it was fantastic. Staff is friendly often calling customers by name. Great neighborhhod place in Dayton. My wife and I often go in for breakfast but nice to know you can get lunch too. Anyone coming through Dayton or living here should pay a visit. read more

Food and service are good, except they use that 'butter flavored' popcorn grease on the toast. I really, really detest that stuff. And our server made my toast the minute I ordered, so it sat on the counter getting stone cold while the meal was cooked. The place is older, but it has character. The toilet in the single restroom is low enough to the ground for children, as is the sink. Too low for my old knees. Probably would not go back. read more

15 years ago this restaurant was THE best and famous for their biscuits and gravy. Went in for just that recently and was very disappointed. Definitely not the same recipe. Service was spectacular! Waitress made us feel important. read more

Biscuits and gravy rocked! Omlet with gravy rocked. Besides our restaurant gravy this is the best we've ever had. Biscuits super soft and tasty. Everyone in place has clean plates as they left. Simply amazing. Went there for the first time today and will definitely be going back. I got the Spanish Omelette with home style potatoes and my boyfriend got the full stack with sausage. The omelette was delicious and I couldn't get enough of the potatoes. My boyfriend scarfed down this pancakes so quickly I didn't know if he tasted them or not, be he said they were so good! The sausage wasn't something you find in a cardboard box then microwaved, they were nice and plump! The spicing in them was just perfect. The price was comparable to the casinos but I would much rather support this wonderful little hole in the wall cafe. The waitress was personable and very sweet.
