I scheduled an appointment, which was confirmed by Jessica in the office. A week later I got a "confirmation of appointment" reminder email by Jessica. The very next day, I got another email stating "we are not taking any new service calls", recommending a different company. Now this is a Friday, with the scheduled appointment on Monday. After several additional emails and a phone call, Gerard the owner piped in with his apologies that they have never been this busy but somehow they would "fit me in". So Cenobio, the technician, showed up on time Monday and found several things that needed repair, most importantly some of the duct that if not fixed may release carbon monoxide into the living space. Not only, the motor responsible for air movement was making sounds that could result in failure, and if failed would leave us without heat for up to 2-weeks as "these parts are hard to get". Cenobio said he would write up the repair recommendations and they would be sent to me with the invoice. I waited a week, didn't hear anything so I called Jessica in the office. She said she would check on it. November 6th, I received an email from Jessica, and I quote "There will be no charge for coming to look at your unit. However we are extremely busy and not accepting any new work at this time. I am sorry that we could not help you further". To which I replied: "Jessica I must say I am very disappointed with the entire process I have been through with Earthheat. I was thrilled with the service I received with the hot water heater install last year and have recommended your company to many local friends and family. But the communication and responses I have received for this transaction have left me scratching my head. I get it. You are busy and don't want my business. Perfect. I can accommodate. But your technician made several recommendations that if left undone could leave me without heat and potentially breathing dangerous fumes - exhaust issues. And a motor or compressor that is making weird noises and should be replaced. Your technician said he would send these recommendations to me via email. I would appreciate if you met your commitments". Gerard the Owner now replied and I quote: "Hello Rick, I'm very sorry for the lack of communication on our behalf. We have never been so busy. I will get with Cenobio who came out to get a Much better understanding of the issues you are facing. I will also honor the continued service though we are not currently taking on new service type work as it was explained. I will be back in touch Monday morning after speaking with Cenobio". That was November 6 2020, and the last I heard from Earthheat. My takeaway: They are busy and don't have time to meet simple commitments to simple consumers. This was my first time hiring 2 Sons Plumbing & Sewer. I picked them due to their immediate…read moreavailability, flexibility for doing two separate plumbing jobs on one visit, and positive reviews on Yelp. The work I needed done was the installation of a 50-gal electric hot water heater (plus haul away of the old one) and the diagnosis/replacement of a corroded waste line connector for a garbage disposal. When I set up my appointment, I made sure to clarify that I wasn't going to be charged for the service visit, or additionally, for any diagnostic steps. Keep this in mind if you're considering them because it's probably a better idea to go with a plumbing company that won't charge you just to come out and physically look at the work you want done. Unfortunately, I was in a hurry, not because something was broken, but due to the fact that completing the work quickly was pivotal to getting a condo sale to the finish line. I was able to schedule my appointment for as early as Monday despite making the initial contact with 2 Sons Plumbing on Thursday (they could've come sooner, but I opted to avoid the extra "rush" or weekend fees by waiting until Monday). One thing I didn't like about their business model is there's no upfront cost for general jobs (i.e., install a hot water heater) or any idea of hourly charges. For instance, with Lowe's and/or Home Depot, I could call and get quotes for this type of work from their subcontractors. Going through Fast Water Heater (Lowe's preferred subcontractor), a 50-gal water heater installation might run between $2,200 and $2,400 depending on the model of hot water heater (the purchase of which is included in the quote). I ended up buying a new water heater from Home Depot ($871 after taxes) a couple of days prior to my appointment with 2 Sons Plumbing, and hauling it up a few flights of stairs to the condo in order to save money. I would later find out that, had I bought the 50-gal electric water heater carried in the back of the 2 Sons Plumbing Truck, it would've cost $3600 (I have no idea why it was this expensive). In the end, I paid 2 Sons Plumbing $1870 after taxes for the installation of the Home Depot Water Heater and haul-away of my old one ($2700+ if you include the price of the hot water heater I bought on my own). In addition to the hot water heater install, I ended up paying for a new garbage disposal plus its installation because the corrosion in the waste line was so bad that new parts were needed (which they didn't have). It made more sense to just replace the whole thing (current garbage disposal was 10+ years old)--This came out to $786.88 after taxes and a 3% convenience fee for using a credit card. Overall, it was a good experience thanks to the knowledge/prep work I had done for 2 Sons Plumbing before going with them. The final cost to me certainly had the potential to be much higher had I let 2 Sons Plumbing provide or do everything. The job took about 6 hours to complete, and I paid in the ballpark of $2500 for the hourly rates (?) plus the purchase of a basic garbage disposal and a minuscule amount of parts. I overheard that the general hourly rate is $400, so what I paid aligns with that. The amount of contact and post-job follow up documentation I received (emails; texts; invoices; etc.) was thorough but also annoying (I.e., solicitation for reviews). All things considered, here's how I'd rate things: Availability/Communication: 5/5 Cost: 2/5 Technician: 5/5 Invoice/Follow-up: 3/5

tldr - if it's related to HVAC, call the installer of your HVAC system if possible…read more I called Green Bear to take a look at an HVAC system (on second floor) that was leaking water on the 1st floor ceiling (due to AC condensation). They sent someone over, who didn't really open the HVAC system panel much. I didn't seem confident that this would fix it. But they recommended to fix the drain pan inside the evaporator coil box, which they said was much more expensive. For clearing the drain pipe and gluing a loose pipe, which didn't actually fix the main problem, they still billed me $300 - diagnostic fee ($99) + 1 hour ($199) - (there's a 3% credit card fee, but they accept checks) 4 or 5 hours later, there was dripping again. I ended up calling Bob's, they sent 2 technicians who knew what they were doing (they opened the panel properly), they found and fixed the issue - it did not involve replacing a drain pan. Bob's only charged me the diagnostic fee of $175 and did the job right (compared to $300 that Green Bear charged)
