Not sure why the hours said closed until 4:00... stopped in on a Thursday afternoon on our way from Charlevoix to Traverse City. My husband and I both ordered the whitefish sandwich. Haven't been to Riverwalk since the new owners and decided to give it another try. You can't beat the location and view of the lake, but the food was declined after the rebuild as there a was fire previously. We were pleasantly surprised with the new owners as the food and service were fantastic! We had the Kale salad with salmon and it was amazing...great flavor and they say the kale is massaged which I guess makes it softer? The cioppino was full of flavor and fresh. Steakburger had great flavor, the sauce was yummy, and hearty! The walleye was outstanding and the craft cocktails with the fresh squeezed juices were legit!! Service was great as well. Riverwalk was a festive and cozy choice for dinner out on a snowy night. The beautiful decorations and fun holiday vibe of the Holiday Lodge are so inviting. Menu has nice selections for apps, salads, sandwiches (handhelds) and entrees. Or just come for the Seasonal cocktails and holiday sweaters on the staff ! Burger was excellent, good crab dip. I've never been to traverse city and happened to stumble upon this off the main road. Overall really good restaurant. It's chilly and raining today but the outside seating looks awesome on the water. Food was really good. Loved the smoked salmon on the Caesar and it was a cold smoked salmon. The Caesar could have used a better dressing and a little more on it for a more quality salad. My friend got the ahi and it was good but needed soy sauce. Great portion size for lunch. The lobster bisque was everyone's favorite, but wasn't exactly warm. The taste and flavor was definitely on point. Our waitress was very attentive and courteous. If you have a group over 8 it's a restaurant policy to only be on one check. For no windows open, oddly enough there were a lot of flys and gnats which was off putting. Seems like a great place to drink on the patio and get a quick bite to eat. read more

Was pleasantly surprised with our experience. Great water views and ample outside waterside tables. We ate inside and appreciated the super clean dining areas with industrial warehouse vibe but with photos of old Elk Rapids. Nice Fortessa plate ware too. Food was good and freshly made. My husband liked his salmon tacos and my burger was solid. A little pricey but we felt the beautiful setting made it worth it. Service was fine. We definitely will return. read more

We've been going to Riverwalk for years, many meals were so-so and overpriced. Service was always a struggle and we usually walked out of there bitching that we wouldn't come back. Well this afternoon we went for lunch and had a surprisingly nice meal. They have a new wait staff that came over from Croatia and our waiter was "on- it". Food came out quick and hot, ( still overpriced), but the sun was out and we were on the deck overlooking the lake, so that was a bonus. The new owner's should have a special during the week nights to bring in the " locals" like a burger and beer for $10. Hoping this visit wasn't a fluke because we really need a good restaurant in Elk Rapids that is consistent throughout the year. read more

This place was terrible. Took 1.5 hours for our food. When it finally came nearly all the orders were wrong and the food was cold. They were out of many items, and with an already small menu, it was very disappointing. They claimed to be having a rush in the kitchen but the place was completely empty. Our server was so sweet but I felt like she lacked training on the Toast system which is a clear reflection of the management (or lack thereof). When we asked to speak to the owner because we had waited incredibly long for our food and it was all either cold or just straight up wrong, he wasn't available because he had spilled oil all over himself. Salmon came over french fries instead of potatoes... who does that? The 20 year old girl who was the manager for the night wasn't delivering on the discount she promised (bc the food was inedible) and we had to have our bill printed THREE times before she finally got it right. She actually told us "This sounds bad, but I'm totally used to having to deal with stuff like this!" and as she said that, the power to the entire joint flickered on and off. We stopped here on our way home because of the view, which was great. They apparently have different hostess' for the inside and outside dining areas, the inside hostess was very friendly and interactive, however, I cannot say the same for the outdoor hostess. Previously being a hostess myself, and enjoying eating out, I've come across A LOT of hostess' and I must say this girl was probably the worst I have ever encountered. She did not speak to a single customer who came up to her stand, just stared at them until they stated what they were looking for. She was on her phone the majority of the time and actually had to be interrupted by customers to look up. She told several people they did not have availability with numerous tables open (possibly due to staffing), but this led to people asking about particular tables and her actually just handing them menus and pointing to the table. Another person was asking her about a table and she quite literally gave him the "shh" finger while she walked back to the podium and checked her phone. When making a reservation list, she handed the customers the pen and paper and had them write it down, again no interaction. We were seated right behind her which is why I was able to observe all this, but when we asked for a second menu as we had only gotten one, she rolled her eyes and said yeah in a tone as if we were inconveniencing her. I watched her seat two other tables and not give them any menus. All in all, it was a horrible effort and it is too bad that the girl inside was not outside. In terms of the food, we got the bread service, fish and chips, and walleye. The bread service was great, but dumb that you have to pay for it. The fish and chips were fine, but it was a small portion, especially for the price. My sister also got like 15 asparagus and I got 4... My dad's walleye was a little rubbery on the outside but good on the inside. read more

Let me start with the positives, the food was tasty. It satisfied our hunger following our round of golf. The service started off okay, and went tragically downhill quickly. The only thing we received in a timely fashion was water and even then we couldn't get refills in less than 10 minutes. When our food came out only half the order was brought out and when asked 15 minutes later after the first half of us ate our food, when asked about the rest of the order no one had any idea that we were missing food. They said they would comp one of our apps and then proceeded to charge us and then attempt to reconcile with witty comments and crappy dessert (which it was - the short bread was stale). to top it all off, when we went to pay the bill the server was more interested in making drinks for other people at the bar vs cashing out his table so we could leave. Would not come here again for dinner. Have had pretty good experiences normally for lunch but will definitely not return after 3pm. read more

The newly remodeled Riverwalk Grill and Taproom has plenty of space; and plenty of space for improvement. The restaurant is situated along the pristine Elk River, with water views and a broad outdoor and dog friendly patio, they boast a large bar with plenty of indoor space as well. The execution of service, beverage and culinary components could use some serious transformation. *I'll note that it should be taken into account that destination summer towns and resort areas are extremely short staffed which could naturally be pertinent to any restaurant's success and performance Our server, Kennedy, was happy to seat our large group at a spacious table, though I'll note that the metal chairs could certainly benefit from cushions. The overall aesthetic of the indoor dining area was beach chic. Clean, bright, and nautical, with the addition of a confusing "show room" living room for which I question the purpose. Our party filtered in, though I was the only one who could snatch a drink order in a timely manner. The rest of the drinks took an unnecessary amount of time, especially noting the emptiness of the restaurant on a rain riddled Wednesday night. One of our guests even had to approach the bar in order to secure a beverage. I am always bothered by a restaurant that doesn't provide bread as a complementary accompaniment to dinner. We ordered the bread service, and asked for side plates. The server and food runner lacked in communication and we resorted to using our napkins. Tacky. Our meals also took an irksome amount of time to arrive. My Caesar salad was correct but not notable. Another guest ordered a Wedge (dry, without enough of anything but the lettuce). The fettuccine Alfredo was thought to be decent, though served with linguine pasta. My "side of asparagus" was 2 pieces. I noted the minimal display, and Kennedy did remove it from my bill. The panetti's seemed to be of the more successful items ordered, though, still not memorable. When our bills were eventually obtained, corrections were in order. Kennedy patiently fixed our issues, but seemed a bit in over her head. I think this establishment is better suited for tourists that seek a view and some cocktails. Until their service and culinary components can be revived, I pend posting a positive recommendation. read more

A very expensive and disappointing dinner. We usually eat here a couple of times a year and I see it is under new ownership. Prices have increased dramatically while the menu options are more limited. The "bowl" of seafood chowder was $12, it took my son 6 bites to eat it all - that's $2 per bite! My tiny side salad was $8, you can see how small in the picture. Pre made and seemly frozen cheeseburger was $19. The bill for my son, husband and I was over $100, two of us had water and one had a beer. Two of us had an item from the appetizer menu as our entree. Entrees arrived before soups. Agreeing with another reviewer that the chips with the dip that was my entree were burnt. I asked for new ones. Crazy high prices for at best average food. read more

Haven't been at Riverwalk for a few years due to previous sub-par experiences. Thought maybe things have improved with time. I went early on a weeknight, but the service was still slow/understaffed. Salmon tacos were sparse but fine. The issue: they're okay with charging more than what's written on the menu for items. In my case, a cocktail. Upon leaving, I asked to speak to a manager to have this corrected as my server was nowhere to be found. Manager said: "Yeah, those menus are outdated. We're getting new ones printed." I said: "Will you correct my bill to what's on the menu, and add the difference to the tip?" (I'd already tipped generously.) She said: "No, nothing I can do. The menu is wrong. The right price is in the computer. Thank you for bringing this to my attention." Which she repeated over and over. Wow. How many other menu items are incorrectly priced? You won't know unless you compare your bill to the menu. Which, if you're a party of more than one or two, won't be easy nor fun, nor should it be necessary. And even if you find a discrepancy, they won't correct the bill. The upshot: this experience reeked of "we don't care about the customer" and borders on shady business practices. Not kidding. Awful. We waited over 20 minutes for bread that was rock hard while we waited for our meal (ordered as an app since we were starving and thought bread would be easy!) My husband ordered a well done cheeseburger and sent it back twice for being red/rare. As the third attempt was still rare and he ended up not eating at all. WOW!!!! We had a great early dinner at The New Riverwalk Grill. The new owner Rich, our server Dan and the rest of the staff are so friendly and attentive! The menu is so so much better!!! We've been coming here for 25 years and the food was really getting skimpy the past couple summers. The new menu now has a bit of the Siren Hall menu feel which we really have missed! And it feels cleaner and fresher but the same Elk Rapids/Torch Lake fun and homey atmosphere!!!! YIKES !!! ...... This one is going to be tough. There are multiple rating levels for the Riverwalk Grill review. First..... 5 Stars go to.....Bartender Ellie. She was very pleasant, very attentive and full of personality. Also, for outside eating, they have a marvelous view on the water. And, the food is FULL of flavor. BUT..... Second......3 Stars for the restaurant. While we felt the food was very tasty... it was a bit overpriced for what we got. A copy of my receipt will be attached. We understand the drink prices..... got that, but it's the 6 brined/smoked chicken wings for $13.00 with thin "shavings" of carrots & celery that got us!! Our fault....We should have asked how many wings were in the order, but didn't. We also ordered the Smoked Brisket on a ciabatta roll for $14.00 w/ additional $3.00 up charge for fries. The Brisket was tender, smoked & very flavorful but it looked like they took one slice of meat and cut it into 8 pieces (little squares) to make a sandwich. I felt another slice of brisket (or a thicker slice) would have made that sandwich fabulous and worth the $14.00 we paid for it. Sorry to say....... we will not stop by again unless we read that they've changed to more reasonable portions. Kudos to Bartender Ellie though....she was great!! read more

On a recent Friday evening we stopped in for dinner and an adult beverage. The staff was friendly- high marks. The feel of the restaurant was friendly, easy going. We relaxed with drinks waiting for our meal. We ordered the mushroom swiss buger and BBQ Chicken Piadina. I could have ordered many other items (brisket, pulled pork, prime rib). The menu had lots of tasty options. We rated the meals 4 out of 5 stars. They exceeded our expectations and hit the mark. Fast service. Quality meal. A+ experience. We called ahead because there were 14 of us, the proper thing to do. When we walked in I noticed the sign said something like Pay with cash/if you pay with credit or debit we charge 3-5% on top of your bill. Ok I had cash on me so that's fine. After we ordered our drinks, she said we can't split checks everyone's bill will have to go on one. Ok I'll get it and everyone can pay me back. When I asked for the bill it was $442!!!! I said can you waive the credit card fee I don't carry around $500 in cash, she said I'll check with mgmt. She came back & said no they decided not to waive it, I said ok do you have an ATM, she said YES.. I said where? She said across the street I said forget it, we had to get going because it's was my daughters bachelorette party & we had to be back at house by 2:30. Of course they added an 18% gratuity as well as the "charge for using the credit card" lol My point is, what I'm being told is the cc companies dont usually charge that much It's usually 1.5% & up. In hindsight we should Have split two tables, had 7 at one, 7 at another then we could have all been on our own checks. read more

Service was a maybe 60yo short haired waitress. First, when we inquired about some items, she seemed very irritated, like "order whats on the menu". And, we didnt see her from start of order to having the order. We had to communicate with other waitresses. After ONE HOUR of waiting for our food (and there were maybe 6 couples ahead of us...with no one inside that wasnt just drinking at bar), we had to ask if we were forgotten (BTW, I notice Terri K on here waited that long too). Suddenly out came the orders. Both were stone ass cold. But, we were so hungry b/c we hadnt eaten since 7am and it was now around 5pm.... so we ate it. We figured complaining may produce another hour wait. There wasnt a chance to order more drinks as we never saw our waitress. When ANOTHER waitress came to take our plates, she asked how it was. My partner said "it was stone cold". She replied "oh well." No offer of a free drink for the wait or for everything being cold. Fries were burned, cold.
