10/10 would recommend. I called and was able to be seen within 30 min of my call on a Sunday evening. The staff was so friendly and the doctor was very patient and explained everything in great detail. The only downside of the visit is the cost but what you have to understand that healthcare, including animal healthcare is not cheap. No one should be expected to work for free especially on a Sunday. I'm grateful to the staff and the vet. We are back home and on a mend now. read more

My 2.5 year old dog needed surgery. We told them we were operating on a very limited budget. They ran up an $1100 tab on us. Going back and forth on what "might" be the issue. Only to finally reach this "epiphany" and tell us 20 minutes before close that our pup needed emergency surgery and it would be $10k. But if we couldn't afford it we could bring her back the next day to monitor (she wouldn't be able to even give a ballpark estimate of cost until after I picked her up at the end of the day). We asked her multiple times what would she do if she was in our shoes. The response? "I'd take an IV bag home and give her an IV but you're not a vet so I don't know." We then asked what to do if we couldn't afford the emergency surgery (price was double since it was the weekend, on Monday it was more affordable but still a hefty price). The vet responded and said "well she might not make it that long" and to just "cross our fingers" and let it play out which would result in a very very agonizing and painful death for our baby girl. I said that is fine but can you at least tell me what is wrong if he even needs surgery and it was a no we can't do surgery: so I drove to SAVES in Fayetteville and I will always use them if I can bec that place is amazing and I'm so disappointed in rivertown vet bec it was something that could have been treated without surgery, but they lost a potential client. So Grateful for Rivertown Veterinary Emergency On July 13, my Mom and I had to take my kitty, Gracie, to Rivertown Veterinary Emergency due to vomiting and dehydration. She had recently been diagnosed with kidney disease, so I was very worried. From the moment we arrived, I was impressed by how kind and organized the staff was. We waited in the car until it was our turn. Two more severe cases were treated ahead of us, and they explained that they have to triage cases. We completely understood. Inside, a vet tech took down all the necessary information and explained the expected wait time with such compassion and professionalism. About 45 minutes later, Dr. Kees treated Gracie. Her knowledge and thoroughness were remarkable, and she provided a detailed explanation of the necessary treatments. We were incredibly impressed. While the high cost was typical of other emergency services, this one was incredibly nice and clean and had such caring staff. They took excellent care of Gracie, and I was so grateful that Dr. Kees took the time to explain everything in detail. I greatly appreciated all she did. Their compassion and thoroughness was far beyond what I had expected. When I later told my regular vet about our experience, she agreed that Rivertown Veterinary Emergency is great. On Thursday of last week my bullmastiff began to feel poorly. I wool her to her regular vet where she was diagnosed with pancreatitis. The next day I took her back to her vet because she did not improve. I ended up taking her to Rivertown. Dr. Kees treated pancreatitis, dehydration, kidney failure, ran extensive lab diagnostics and xrays. At her suggestion I followed up with my regular vet Monday morning and opted for the ultrasound Dr Kees recommended. The next step was an emergency exploratory surgery, another recommendation from Dr Kees. I documented in my calendar on JULY 26th that my bullmastiff ninja'd her way to the small yellow mango I dropped. She swallowed while before I could stop her. For two weeks I observed for possible blockage. Yesterday we opened her up and found a FOUR MONTH OLD mango seed that partially instructed her small intestines. It's been removed. My dog is improving. I'd like to thank dr Kees and staff for their compassion and dedication to saving my girl. Words cannot adequately express my gratitude. You are my heroes. He was shaking his head un-controllably at home and when I take him in of course he is excited and isn't feeling the pain in his stomach. They told me it was a four hour wait and suggested I take him back home to monitor him. I called a friend to accompany myself and my best buddy for the long haul all the way to ATL. Where I took him to THE VILLAGES VET. They immediately went to work and made him throw up and the toy came out. I will 100% of the time drive two hours to ATL to go back to that vet. Do not attempt to take your fur baby here. It was obvious they did not want to see us!! Our Great Dane had blood coming out of his mouth. We thought he got an animal. My husband then says his tongue is gone. I am trying not to freak out. We then realized he had it rolled up. Oh - I am writing this and my stomach is in knots. After about 20 minutes of my husband's hand looking like he was trying to stop an internal bleed, I was saying we needed to get him somewhere. We were close to Auburn and their emergency vet office said they were not seeing patients to take him to Rivertown in Columbus. As we were driving and had cell phone service, I called Rivertown to let them know we were on the way. They told us to go to Union City because it was closer to us. Nope- not really. Could have gotten to Rivertown faster. Called them back to let them know we were going to them because they were the closest. She then said they were slammed and Union City would be better because they are bigger. (Hindsight- hate to see how tiny they were because Union City wasn't all that big). Rivertown didn't want to see or help us!! We just knew there had to be someone closer than an hour. There was- Fayetteville. Call them- we are not seeing anymore patients. We close at 10. This is 8:45. What???? We have what looks like a murder scene and you won't let us there??? We finally made it to Union City and they were awesome!!!!!!!!! Called them to let them know we pulled up. They got him in as soon as they saw all the blood. "We will come out with an estimate." Yeah- that never happened. They knew he was our boy and couldn't wait for treatment. Doctor came out after they got him sewn up. He had chipped his tooth and cut his artery in his tongue. He could have chipped his tooth a hundred different ways and it could have been cracked for a while. Who knows! Running and playing- his tongue hangs out. Freak accident. I was driving home from the beach yesterday when my dog became very sick and I was in unfamiliar territory. I found the emergency hospital on google. I called ahead and they were two hours from me. They talked me through what to do and even looked up other places I may be able to get to faster. I got there asap and they were prompt, efficient and courteous. They ran many tests, gave an IV, and gave my dog a shot for nausea and after a few hours my pup and I were on our way home safely. I appreciated the care and concern to a very worried doggo mom. On Sunday, October 4th my husband brought in our Lab mix after he was frequently urinating and we noticed blood in his urine. My husband waited over an hour to be seen. The vet examined my dog and told my husband she'd be back with an estimate for all the diagnostics that she felt needed to be done. When my husband when over each item with her this included a urinalysis, blood work, an X-ray, and a heartworm test. My husband denied the heartworm test since we recently had this done at his regular vet and he is on prevention. None of the testing besides the urinalysis seemed necessary, but my husband just wanted what was best for our dog and felt it was in our best interest to take the advice of a professional. The results showed he had a UTI because there was blood in his urine and elevated white blood cell count. So after paying the $150 fee to be seen, another $400 for the diagnostics, my husband was told that an antibiotic for my dog would cost $109. He declined because that is NOT what this should cost and couldn't imagine spending any more money here. He asked if we could fill a prescription so that it was cost less and was told no. So he left with our dog. I called to find out why a urinalysis wasn't done first in order to avoid other testing and a higher bill. And was told by a receptionist named Jazmin that this is what is done for all dogs that are brought it. I was not allowed to speak with the vet that treated my dog and was told I was nasty and rude before the receptionist hung up on me. I am so disgusted with our experience here. That after spending hundreds of dollars on unnecessary testing, my dog left without medication because we couldn't understand how a prescription under $5 would cost us another $100. It's amoxicillin, it costs 12 cents a pill. My family was completely taken advantage of today while we were in a vulnerable situation and wanted to help our family pet that we love. This place is a JOKE. They are only after money. My baby hurt his neck. They wouldn't see him until I paid $200. Then had to wait longer for him to be seen. They did x-rays and bloodwork. Another $550. Then offered pain medicine (another $100) and to kennel him for 4 weeks, which I have done. The vet told me to feed my baby ONLY KIBBLE. NO CANNED FOOD. Then turns around and tries to sell me THEIR canned food. I called my regular vet and what do they do? THEY RECOMMENDED CANNED FOOD ONLY. My baby hurt his neck again on Friday. I called to see about getting a refill of his pain medication and was told (in a snarky tone) that I was supposed to follow up with my regular vet and that they don't do refills. My parents came in with their diabetic cat and she was going downhill and needed emergency treatment. They were given a debit card and credit card and refused to run them for the $600 retainer to treat the cat. Made my parents leave with their cat and go to an ATM and get cash and then when they got back refused to treat the cat because it was after 11 am even though they were there long before 11 am originally. Called them tonight because my 6 month old Siberian husky was choking. I got her mouth open and could see what looked like a small stick at the back of her throat, tried getting it from the back of her throat and was not successful then could no longer see it. Called my vet and had a recording to call rivertown. Put my dog in the suv and left the house. My husband called river town and they said they didn't have a scope to take her to auburn. Auburn, really. You are an emergency clinic and don't have a scope. All the while my dog is choking. she was just spayed a week ago so she is still healing from that. Was headed to auburn and noticed that there were firefighters and emt's at our local volunteer fire dept doing some training and we stopped to see if they could help. thank goodness for them. They helped our sweet girl, they were able to get the small rusty spring from her throat, it was not a stick. we will be taking her to our vet in the morning, I have already called and left them a message but not after I called river town. The girl that I talked with answered the phone and I told her who I was and she said yea I told him to take her to auburn because we don't have a scope to go down her throat. Of course I was not satisfied with that explanation. I asked, so you call yourself an emergency clinic but do not have a scope? I think that is quite upsetting in the fact that you are the only emergency clinic in our area and you do not have a scope. Spent $1000.00 here and was sent home with food and medication to give to a pet who has thrown up for 36 hours straight. My pet steadily declined after leaving this place and I had to rush him to Auburn. Rivertown did inform me that he could have a possible blockage which Auburn Veterinarian Hospital found and removed but I am still unsure as to how my pet was supposed to take and keep down the meds we were sent home with for his pancreas. Maybe if your pet is bleeding out at the moment and this is the closest place, it could be a good choice but I would recommend driving a bit for anything else. read more

The rude receptionist refused to allow our kittens to be seen because we had rescued them the night before and insisted they were strays and needed to go to animal control. Columbus animal control doesn't need any more kittens. You would have sent them to a certain death. My grandmother called me earlier today (Saturday) and asked me if I knew of any Emergency Veterinary places in town and I recommended Rivertown, since it is the only one in Columbus and I have taken my two of my dogs there several times and had great care and experience there before. Her cat was very ill, had not been eating or drinking, and was dragging her back legs not able to get around like normal. We took her to Rivertown this afternoon and a woman came outside to greet us and asked what was going on with her cat. My grandmother explained everything and the girl stated that there was only one vet seeing patients today and she would need to go inside and talk to the vet to see what she could do. When she came back, she basically told my grandmother that they couldn't take her in because of her cats age (she is 17), and that we would need to take her to Auburn or Union City, that those were the closest ones that she recommended and told us we would just need to call them and see if they would take her in. This was such a big inconvenience, because that is a 45 minute to an hour drive to each of those places and we were turned away and they wouldn't even offer to examine the cat AT ALL. When I called Auburn, they stated that they were at full capacity and could not see the cat and even stated on the phone that she is not even sure why Rivertown even recommended calling them because they are not taking any emergency patients at this time. It really just rubbed us the wrong way because they didn't even offer to examine her cat or provide any help when my grandmothers cat was obviously very ill, if she is not able to walk and dragging her back legs. The least they could have done was looked at her and tried to help, but instead we were turned away and asked to go elsewhere in an emergency situation. We were even willing to wait as long as needed for the cat to be seen, if they would have just given us that option. Isn't that the point of an emergency veterinary clinic, to help your pets in an emergency situation? Just very disappointed in the experience that we encountered today, especially since I had been here a few times before and received great care for my pet until today. read more

We brought out dog here for an emergency around 830 the other night. We were greeted outside and asked what we needed. I told the girl that our dog had swallowed ibuprofen to which she told me that they were at capacity and we should drive 2 HOURS to the nearest hospital. I then asked her what we should do in regards to our dog swallowing ibuprofen to which all she said was, "oh that's fatal, but we are at capacity". My question is, if that was a human who was turning blue in the parking lot, would you tell them you're at capacity and make them leave to drive two hours not knowing whether that person or dog was going to die on the way??? Our Dog nearly died and they did not care. We adopted a 20 month old Chihuahua about 2 months ago. We have adopted 8 over a 30 year time frame as we are big animal lovers. I pulled in and went in myself. I said we need help now please. The young lady just stained at me. I asked to speak to the Veterinarian and she said no and I needed to read there policy letters taped to the counter. There was absolutely no one there. I asked for her name and she refused. This place in my opinion does not care about animals they are in this for the money. My best friends family dog had a distended stomach, was in extreme pain, and apparent organ failure due to leakage, diarrhea, and vomiting. This "practice" wouldn't see him til they had paid $150 fee and filled out paperwork outside. Due to COVID, no one was allowed inside while they ran tests on a 16 year old sweet baby--assuring he was treatable--after they put a leash on him that tightened the collar and tried to drag him through the waiting room. After waiting for an hour, they drove across the street to the gas station to use the restroom and grab something to drink. They received a call saying they'd have to pay a $100 fee for hospitalization since they "left" their dog. After a total of four hours at this emergency care, they were told they'd have to put their dog down. It was going to be a $20 for the practice to keep his ashes or $190 for his ashes in a "cute little box with a rainbow on the top." These were the words of the vet tech. Including testing their total was close to $800. Check google and yelp and you'll find similar horror stories of people having to rush their baby to Auburn after being turned away by this clinic. read more

Wish I could give them 0 stars. After visiting 3 vet offices this evening beginning at 6pm in Auburn we made it to Rivertown. My mother, sister, and I received the most uncaring, unprofessional, and flat out rude service. From the time we arriving at Rivertown around 12am I am now leaving at 2:40 am with my puppy sicker than she was when we walked in and $100 poorer. Our second stop tonight was Auburn University where they immediately started treatment with no questions asked. The best service and care we could hope for we received at Auburn. Only problem was the price, although I would love to do what I can to save my puppers I not my family had the money to pay Auburn's price of $2,500. I called Rivertown multiple times to ensure treatment was available and there prices vs Auburn. The first call she was very helpful , but after calling the third time you could tell she didn't care as much to help me. Nicole told me that there price was at least $1,000 but not more than $2000 and that is why we decided to travel an additional 1 hour to Columbus. Upon arrival no one would help us or see our pup until we figured out why our care credit wasn't working although we just applied and were approved in Auburn. No one was willing to help us find it either so we could hurry to get our pup in the back who we were told was in critical condition in Auburn. While waiting, our pup was in pain and could not move, she urinated on herself and I and still they were in no hurry to get us to the back. After figuring out our care credit and establishing a $100 exam fee they finally took us to the back (45 min). While in the back we waited 30 minutes for a vet tech to come see us and take vitals. Then we waited again for the vet to come in and retake vitals and then proceed to tell us she would work up an estimate that came 20 minutes late for $2200. The estimate had to be paid in full in order to leave her, but we simply do not have that. We tried to put $1600 on care credit and pay the remaining on Monday morning at 6 am but they would not try to help us in any way. We are now on our way home an hour drive back with the same problems we left at 6pm with. We only wish we could have stayed and afforded Auburn prices. We are hoping our pup will make it until Monday morning to see our regular vet at home and if not our pup will have passed because of this terrible place. We are praying for the best. The estimate included double charging for what they say they wouldn't need but said they have to over charge us.... we hope to save others from making the mistake of taking their fur babies to this unsympathetic vet. read more

Never bring your animal to this place. They just want money. We brought our 16 year old dog in to be put to sleep because we knew he was dying and in pain and suffering. We had to pay $150 just to walk in. Then they told us our dying dog was treatable and they wanted $538 to run tests and they refused to put him down. We paid the money and waited for the results. Because of Covid, we had to wait in the car so we left for about 5 minutes to grab a drink and they called saying if we left the parking lot, they would charge an additional $100 hospitalization fee. They did not tell us that before or we would have gone to the store one at a time since we waited nearly an hour for test results to tell us what we already knew. He was too bad off and needed to be put to sleep. After an additional $75 was paid for that, they finally did what we asked them to do when we walked in. Ridiculous! It's hard enough to say goodbye to your pet that is also your family member but to be treated like that and have unnecessary tests ran just to get more money is wrong! Our six pound maltese was just killed by a pitt bull while on a walk. She was on a leash and 2 dogs ran out of a house and one attacked her. We took her to river town emergency vet where they wouldn't see her until I got there with a credit card. My daughter was running in the office through the halls begging them to help her because her parents were on the way. They just looked at her. I even offered to give them my card by phone but they wouldn't take it. Why be an emergency vet if you aren't going to help in an emergency unless I give you 600.00 up front. When I got there and gave them my card they wouldn't take her until they ran my card. Who grabs their purse in an emergency situation like that? My kids jumped in the car and got her there as fast as they could. Yes I was yelling and upset but the fact that the staff looked at all of us so cold and 2 of them even rolled their eyes. Not at one time did they show any concern or say I'm sorry!!! I know I was angry and upset but my daughters boyfriend who was calm even said their behavior was unexcusable. For some people their animal is like a child and my sweet Zoe was everything to us. I would have emptied my bank account to save her. How can people especially a vet care more about money? They wouldn't hold her for us because the cremation company i want to use is not who they us. Please pray for our family we have so much on our plate right now and don't think we can handle much more. read more

I wish this veterinary after care place could get zero stars. I brought in my car that was very dehydrated and said to have enlarged kidneys and a small heart. After a very expensive bill my cat died four hours after we left this place. It was said fluid was given to her to hydrate her and anti nausea medication and two small cans of catfood. I think my cat got much weaker and worse after coming to this place. And for this to be a veterinary place I feel the staff lack compassion and empathy for someone pet. And I believe these people only want money. If I had known what I know now I would rather had my cat died at home before bringing her here. I will never bring another pet of mine here to this place and I don't even recommend anybody else neither. This is the worst veterinary place I ever been to. I sure wish my beloved cat regular veterinarian was open and available. Maybe my cat would still be alive. read more

I would never go back to this so called hospital. I took my dog there because she was bleeding from her mouth and had black stool. She was 12 yrs old and had back surgery when she was 1, which she recovered well from, and was diagnosed with cancer at 7. I felt like I was given 5 extra precious yrs with her, but with her current condition, she was suffering and the bleeding she was fighting back. Telling everyone there, they insisted on checking her, at the tune of 500.00, then told me they could do more and keep her overnight, which by that time, cause we had to pick her up b4 6:00 am, only meant about 8 hrs, at the tune of 500. more. All that included was a blood test which they concluded she had pancreatitis. Told me to take her to her regular vet, MAKING ME THINK SHE WAS GONNA LIVE. I didn't mind the 1000. if they could save her. They included 6 cans of dog food at the tune of 50.00. When I picked her up, she was still bleeding from her mouth. They closed b4 my vet opened so I had to bring her home till then. My dog was still suffering. My vet took xrays and said the cancer had spread and it was time! Why didn't Rivertown do that and save me and her the pain, instead of selling me dog food my baby would never eat!!! I even asked did they do xrays. No! My baby was gone in 5 hrs!!!! They prey on people cause they know they'll pay any price to save their pets and in the evening you're at their mercy!!!! DON'T GO THERE IF THERE IS ANY WAY BY GOD YOU DON'T HAVE TO!!!! read more

They were great I was in and out quick with my dog. I brought my dog home after getting him groomed at petsmart. Rivertown found the problem quick and gave my pet some medication to help his stomach. This place is Amazing!!!! My little Pomeranian got sick on a Friday night around 9:00 PM. I had heard good things about this place and its very close to my home so off we went. First: This is the CLEANEST animal clinic I've ever been in. After filling out paperwork(less than 5 minutes), we were immediately put in a room and a vet tech came in and accessed the situation. the vet then came in and told us her thoughts and a plan of action then took my baby for a few tests. They brought her back with medicine and instructions on aftercare. The staff could not have been any nicer or more helpful! I was in and out in under an hour. I'm so happy we NOW have an emergency vet clinic that is fast and efficient(you know what I'm talking about if you've ever had to visit that other place in town for a pet emergency). If you live in Columbus or the surrounding areas and you have a pet that needs after hours or weekend help please take them here. I cannot thank them enough for all their help. read more
