The home was built for the Gillis, well-known and wealthy Cleveland family, in 1863. Then, 25 years ago, the home was converted into a bed and breakfast, and 5 years after that, the first floor was converted into a tea room. Every inch is covered in sweet, kitch decor, and tea is for sale at reasonable prices. I can't say enough good things about this tea room. They were so accommodating for our large group and Katie, one of our servers, provided us a run down of the history of the building and business as well as everything that was included in our $25 High Tea experience. Two different types of tea were offered and the meal consisted of a soup or salad, a slice of quiche and fruit, a selection of three tea sandwiches, a scone, banana bread, and an assortment of desserts to finish it all off. It was a lot of food, all delicious and homemade, that was spread out over 2 hours of fun conversation. My favorites of all the food were the scones and Panna cotta. If you don't live in the area, try the bed and breakfast instead of your typical hotel for your next stay in cleveland! As soon as I walked in Gayle greeted me and the warm and wonderful calmness she presented to me seem to take 1,000 tons of pressure off of me. I was no longer alone. Then we discovered we are both retired school teachers! WONDERFUL exchange of our experiences, while we sat in the kitchen with coffee and muffins. I have been back to visit only once since it is quite a trip for me to drive. However, I'm heading back to Akron in late November or early December, depending on when the Clinic in Wadsworth has their opening.
