A week prior to arriving, I called the B&B to request earlier check in than the 4:00 pm stated. The owner Sid, agreed since that was the only room that was not occupied the night before. AND he would text me if something changed. Since I did not hear from him - I texted him twice while in route to Vermillion - but no answer back, so I called him. He told me he was not there to let us in - and he would be at the house 4:30 the latest. Turns out he owns another company and the B& B seemed to be a part time thing. Upon arrival - we found that no one had occupied any of the rooms the night before, and the only reason we could not get early check in - he would not be on site to let us in. Upon our arrival we were shocked to see the condition of the property. The first thing you see is the front door- which was filled with cob webs and spiders - the entire front porch, swing and chairs were the same. Including the chairs outside by the fire pit. A complete lack of care or pride in the place. Interior of the house is completely run down and in need of a through cleaning. Ceilings were all water stained. All windows were filthy and the shades did not work. The only tiny fridge in main room was dirty & not cleaned, no wine glasses, no complimentary bottled water and NO BREAKFAST - hello it's a Bed AND Breakfast. They give you a coupon to go to a local coffee shop (NOT a sit-down eggs and pancake place) AND - the coupon is one $15.00 coupon for two people. And the coffee shop does not tell you that once you buy one thing on the coupon and there is - say $8,00 left and you want to get something else, once the first transaction is charged - the coupon is closed out and you lose the remaining money. We were told by the coffee shop that Sid was adamant on that policy. This was by far the worst place - hotel or B&B that I have ever Experienced. It should be shut down. Don't stay here - and I have learned a valuable lesson on reviews - don't trust them.

Built in 1830 in the town that gave rise to the Civil War, this charming B&B, a stop on the Underground Railroad, is a virtual museum of mid-18th century and Victorian American History! (And this place is supposedly haunted by a previous owner!). The current owners Joe and Susan are a wealth of knowledge of the history on the house and the area! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED to adults and teens (with adults) of any age! (There are too many antiques around for tiny hands to touch.) Hallauer House is just 4 miles from the heart of Oberlin, but trust me, it will be worth the drive to this gem on the Underground Railroad if you are looking for peace and quiet, an exquisite 5-Star gourmet breakfast, a spa package, a workout room, if you so choose, and delightful hosts who work very hard to make their guests feel warmly welcomed. Considering all the amenities provided by Joe and Susan, I don't think any other area lodging facility could even begin to compare!

River Dog Retreat is not simply a B&B or a place to rest your head; it's a destination in its own right. The cottage is cozy and well-appointed, with all the comforts you'd expect in a retreat--an efficient kitchen, strong water pressure, dependable climate control, and furnishings that perfectly complement the calm, artistic atmosphere. What elevates the space, however, are the handmade works of art created by Deb and Terry, which add a sense of character and soul that you won't find elsewhere. The heart of River Dog, though, lies beyond the accommodations. The main lodge is expansive and filled with their extraordinary artwork, each piece crafted with intention and artistry. And then there's the music--intimate concerts featuring exceptional talent that River Dog has become known for. Their website provides a glimpse of the caliber of musicians they host, but experiencing it in person is something special. And none of this would be the same without Deb and Terry themselves. Winter concerts are smaller, limited to 90 seats in the gallery; summer concerts are held in the barn, with an attendance limit of about 150. Ticket prices are $15 for all shows and RSVP's via email are first-come-first-serve. Before the show, you can come early, order a wood-fired pizza, and relax in the lounge. During intermission, light refreshments are graciously provided by the hosts and alcoholic beverages are BYOB. This cozy, welcoming, quirky venue is one of the most pleasant and unique concert-going experiences I have ever had and I will jump at the chance to return!

It's new, and it's the only B&B in Berea, with the quaint downtown square right around the corner. The owners are quick to respond to any problems, the location is fantastic, the beds are good. Even the *towels* here are top-notch. When I checked to make sure I didn't have down pillows, I found brand new allergy shield pillow covers on high-quality synthetic pillows. When you stay in a B&B in an old Victorian or heritage home, usually that means dealing with a tiny bathroom, undersized shower, and so on; the beautiful old home that houses Riverside Gables was completely renovated in fall 2012, with nice big showers, new fixtures, and new floors. Guests even have a sitting room, with a kitchenette and fridge, Keurig coffee machine, spare dishes, and (my favorite) electric kettle and teapots for tea. Glass bottles of water are kept chilled for the use of the guests, and it was great to have that bottle of water to take to my room (and also not feel like I was wasting a plastic bottle just to have something cold to drink.) There's also a separate back door for guests. Breakfast has been excellent: fruit salad to start, juice, a beautiful omelette the first time I stayed and a Belgian waffle this morning. The owners have a beautiful Golden Retriever, but he is not allowed in the B&B portion of the house. Catherine is lovely to talk to, knowledgeable about the area, and responsive to the needs and preferences of her guests. If business brings me back to the area, I will *definitely* put this place at the top of my list.
