I started by looking up my local VSO online and saw that I could schedule a 45-minute claims consultation. The soonest available appointment was a month and a half away, so I figured they must be very busy and booked it. I waited a month and a half for my appointment, gathered all of my documents, evidence, and questions, and showed up prepared. Once I arrived, I was told they couldn't help me because they first needed my signed consent to access my VA file, and that process would take an additional 5-7 days. I'm giving one star because this should have been addressed when I scheduled the appointment. If I had been told in advance that a signed consent form was required, I could have completed it beforehand instead of waiting six weeks only to leave without receiving any assistance. It was a complete waste of time and could have been easily avoided with better communication. Unfortunately, my experience felt like it reflected the kind of unnecessary bureaucracy that many veterans encounter. I needed assistance with a form for the DMV. It was quick and easy making an appointment at the Hemet office. Upon arrival, the receptionist was very nice and made me feel welcome. Pamela came and got me at my appointment time and understood what I needed. I was in and out in 15 minutes. That rarely happens at a government office. County staff are knowledgeable, and customer service focused. A bit help for our Vets who don't necessarily navigate technology well and understand these systems. Accessing support shouldn't be hard and the county's office bridges the gap. read more

First, let these unprofessional security guards go home, they're taking up a lot of the veterans time. This place is a joke, I don't recommend that ANY VETERAN SHOULD COME HERE. The VSO in Hemet has been a literal godsend for me, and especially because of Greg Mortell who works there. The office is always clean and the staff are friendly, but the VSO assistance itself is top notch! VA paperwork is so overwhelming and convoluted. Greg is a wealth of knowledge in all regards and has not only made all the processing insanely simple, but he articulates what is going on in a clear, easy to understand manner, and he has the most genuinely positive and helpful personality. I told the lady I have been calling for 4 days and the answering service was full. She said they just cleared it. Came out to me car and called again, still full. This is a busy office ! There are only 20 veteran service Officers for Riverside county !!!!! So expect to wait Along time ! It took three separate trips to this office to To finally get a chance to be seen . My first attempt was at 11 AM to which I was told sorry there are two people in front of you and they go to lunch at 12 so come back. So my second attempt was at 3 pm to which I was told there are four people in front of you and we close at five so come back another day . My last attempt was at 8 am am when they open & already 11 people were in line infront of me . I had so many questions but was shut down immediately by snarky comments before I could Finish my sentence by the overworked non friendly senior veterans rep named Jeanette . She said sorry " I'm a veteran myself I did 20 years in the marines and this is how I talk " ! Makes you uncomfortable to ask Any further questions . My husband has a brain injury a , Spinal chord injury and grand mal seizures . We asked about an individual unemployability rating to state that he's unemployable due to these conditions. To which Jeanette says " Steven Hawkins works and he's in a wheel chair , and plenty of people work who have seizures " she made us feel like we were worthless pieces of crap asking for a hand Out . Then she tells me & if you get paid to be his caregiver be Prepared to be cut cause the program is getting axed . Followed by have a great day ! She made us feel like we were trying to ask her for money . Or like we are taking money from her pocket specifically . I went to this department just to get aq form, that DMV said I must have. I was handed a brochure at the the local Veterans clinic giving me the address of the Indio Office and giving the office hours, M,T, Th, F 9:00 am to 4 p.m.. A friendly county employee, from another department showed me the office. This was a Friday, the door was locked. The county employee knocked on the door, and was greeted with this is Friday we are closed. I heard enough noise to know there were other employees inside. I said all I wanted was the form, and since, I had called the day before to verify, that anyone would be able to give me the form, and i would be out of there in less than 5 minutes. I showed the Veteran's Services (sic) employee, the material I had showing that they were supposed to be open. He took, went inside, and came back a few minutes later, and said they were closed. I guess there offer no services to veterans on Friday, or do they ever offer services read more

First of all, this office is shared with other county services who are trying to help numerous different programs. Additionally, there aren't many State Veterans resources available for Vets in South Riverside County. This office is staffed by only 2 veteran representatives three days a week, one day a week there is only one. There is an additional vet who helps coordinate personnel in line to help streamline the process, but he keeps everyone informed on the progress and flow of individuals. The staff has to shut down in order take lunch and to go home so make sure you prepare ahead of time to go into the office and depending upon when you arrive you may have to wait for a bit of time. The staff is quite friendly and very knowledgable in the benefits veterans rate. They are extremely efficient in the handling and processing of requests for you and clearly explain everything in detail for you to understand. I will gladly return and refer my friends, colleagues, and fellow veterans who wish to have their benefits explained or handled. I can only give 4 stars due to them being under staffed, which is not their problem, but it still impacts their overall score for efficiency. read more

The county of Riverside Veterans Services is a big joke. I applied for aid and attendance and received it 3 months later. The county of Riverside counted it as income even though I was using it to pay my caregiver all of it every month, that is what it is for. So then the state of California cut off my medical. The county workers don't know the law and don't care what the law is. Aid and attendance is for medical purposes like helping you when you need. That is why it is called aid and attendance. You don' pay taxes on it. So now I have to pay Medicare $144 every month and I have to pay the ambulance $150 and the emergency room $125 and and I have to pay the hospital every day for 5 days. I think that there has to be a better government than riverside county. I know about Jeanette Philips, She is the one that screwed me up saying that aid and attendance is income and then shortly there after they said she retired. Evidently she didn't retire just moved to a different office. She will answer to the Lord. read more
