Motte Historical Museum - Museums Near Me - Menifee, California

We had a wonderful day yesterday at the Motte Museum Big Barn Classic Car Show here in Menifee. This was their 12th annual event of which I've attended a few. The Sold Out car show was full of beautiful Classics, Customs, Muscle Cars, Hot Rods, Trucks and Low-Riders. The parking facility was loaded with eye-candy for every palate. The show was run flawlessly under the leadership of Tommie Brown and the whole team at the Motte Museum. The Big Barn was displayed with a tribute to the Corvette from the families collection. Every generation, but my favorite was the 1963 Split Window "Fuelie" on the turntable which I would have to sell one of my houses to own. From the free coffee and donuts to participants, to the cars, to the polite hard-working staff, the food trucks and awards, this was a Fantastic event. Great museum! Beautiful cars to look at all inside a barn. All cars were clean and just gorgeous. Very friendly staff. There is a gift shop as well. Make sure to look in there. We found a great magnet for our magnet board. read more

Fun free museum with an impressive collection of vintage automobiles from the 1910s-1960s. There are pretty unique and rare cars, with everything in pristine condition. Even if you are not a car lover this place is worth a visit. The top level of the museum talks about Menifee and Riverside history as well as the Motte family history. We spent about an hour there. This place is easy to miss and drive by, so keep your eye out. We would definitely visit again if in the area. read more

What a gem! This place is amazing!!! My husband and I took our 21 month old toddler here because he loves car and we were somewhat curious about this place. And let me te you, we were not disappointed. It's kinda located in the middle of nowhere, but there's plenty of parking space! They close pretty early, so make sure to check the hours before going. The whole museum is open to public, and is FREE. They do accept donations though. The whole experience probably would take you about 30 to 45 mins, maybe longer if you like to linger around, taking pics, or just staring at these beauties. They have a guestbook that you can sign and they are open as a venue for weddings, party, etc. Our toddler loves this place and were really enjoying the cars on display. He was kicking and screaming when it was time to go. Definitely recommend this place, super family friendly, and just a cool place for those that are into cars from the olden days. read more

Imagine a giant barn structure, with a historic vibe and cool architecture, filled with lovingly restored cars. You can not only imagine it, you can visit it in Menifee. The Motte family, area farming pioneers, started collecting cars decades ago. They graciously share their acquisitions with the public, free of charge. Inside the barn, there's also a gift shop, plus a mini soda fountain. On the second level, there's a series of display boards depicting history of the valley. The cars span the birth of the horseless carriage era to the 50s. The paint jobs are so shiny and substantial. Very impressive! Love the gleaming chrome and general excellent condition of these classics. Each vehicle has a placard describing the significance of its manufacturing, and the tie to the Motte family. A number of the collection's cars and trucks took decades to restore. The labor-of-love vibe is evident in this sweet venue. It was worth the long drive to visit the site. Many weddings and other special events take place at the barn. It's a great spot for a milestone birthday celebration. The hostess told us all the cars are drive-able, and move out of the barn for large events. I enjoyed browsing through several photo books with past events. The building and collection offer a great backdrop for unique photos. Dear Hubby just reminded me to report how friendly and informative the hostess was. She was really welcoming. When she learned we drive out from Ventura County for the afternoon, she recommended checking out the Orange Empire Railroad Museum. Great suggestion, so that we doubled our experience in the area. read more

My dad who is 86 loved seeing some of the cars from back in his day. I did not not know this place existed and right in my neighborhood.

Wow I cannot believe I've never been here before! I've lived in the area for years and always saw this barn looking place but never knew what was inside it! There's a small coffee truck outside of this place that I've been wanting to try also for years so when I finally had a chance to go there I decided to stop here and was in for a surprise! This place is awesome if you love cars! Great place to bring the kids and teach them some history on cars! I got there a little after opening and the lady didn't have the greatest attitude but I helped myself to seeing the cars and it was a good stop to kill some time! They also have car shows every so often! They rent out the space for events also! read more

We went here for the first time. We came here two other times but it was closed. It's a fun place if you are into old cars. You can also rent the place for parties and receptions. They let you take photos of the cars. Admission is free..which is nice. We moved from San Diego a year ago and nothing in San Diego is free! i absolutely loved randomly stumbling upon this place while my friend was at work i searched nearby museums and BAM MOTTE HISTORICAL MUSEUM popped up. I would have never guessed they had cars in this barn. they even have an old jukebox that plays all your favorite 50's jams. I got a tour from one of the family members knew the motte brothers themselves. he not only gave me a free tour but he welcomed me and spoke with me all day about the history behind how the motte museum came about. Focused on American cars crossing many generations, about two dozen vehicles in restored condition were on display. In a fun Western-style old barn with a high ceiling, the cars were well spaced and lit. Because the visit only took 15 minutes, it's not worth driving only to this museum if not a local, but there are other worthwhile museums along this corridor of the I-215 freeway like the Orange Empire Railway Museum and March Field Air Museum. Easy to see all three in one day for an experience of planes, trains, and automobiles. It was in Menifee, but there was no fee for admission. read more

We met with Maria who was the absolute sweetest coordinator we have yet to come across. She was knowledgable about the history, the cars, the venue and weddings. She answered all of our questions and concerns and gave advice when needed. If the price was in our budget I would've booked with them for sure! I was so close to just booking it because of Maria alone. The venue has a grassy area outside towards the back. It's hidden and cute. You can hold a ceremony, cocktail or anything from all different sides of the lawn and it would look like a totally different place. The museum itself is so adorable! My husband and I came here during the week.They are only open certain days of the week.The admission was not pricey. There are nice,unique classic cars to look at. We both enjoyed it.The floors were very clean,it reminded Me of a huge Western barn.Not that long really to oversee looking at the autos.But a nice chance to look back at history and relax.Will come again. read more

This place has an awesome collection of vintage and classic cars. You can tell the level of care and expertise that went into each car. Each one has an interesting story. The 1920s and 1930s era section of the museum is my favorite. Whoever transformed this barn into a car museum did an amazing job! read more

My daughter and I looked at a couple of other venues and we were, sad to say, shocked at the prices. We decided to check out Motte just because it was so close--was hesitant at first about this being a good venue for a wedding, but my daughter was planning a "country chic" theme. Walked in the doors and WOW! The Museum is beautiful inside--clean and shiny as a new penny. Maria, the coordinator, took us to the back to see the ceremony space, and I burst into tears, it was so perfect. We booked almost a year in advance, and Maria was wonderful and accommodating to work with; everything we did NOT think about, she DID think about. Love her sense of humor, and her calm demeanor. She was very unobtrusive, but apparently had eagle eyes on us. A perfect example--the day before the wedding we were decorating, and couldn't figure out how to get the bows on the back of the chairs correctly. She watched us for a bit, then walked over and calmly showed us how to make it work. We finally figured out that every time we were stumped--ask Maria, and she knew what to do and how to do it. Her assistant, Mike, went over and above, even so far as to wash dishes for us. The price was reasonable, and considering all we got from Maria and staff in extra assistance, I would call it "cheap" (in a good way). There are too many good experiences to list, but I cannot think of one bad thing to say. read more

We had our wedding reception here on 10/12/13, and it was absolutely wonderful! We took full advantage of the venue and our guests had a lot to do! We used the 50's soda area for our candy bar, had a slide show going in the cinema, had the DJ and plenty of room for dancing, and even had a cigar bar outside on the back lawn! Sarah and Maria were both extremely helpful, accommodating, and responded to our emails and phone calls in a timely manner. I would suggest for the next wedding couple who are going to use every part of the venue as we did, to hire/assign people at all points other than the main floor. For example, guests who were in the cinema and outside on the lawn could not hear the DJ announce the cake cutting/bouquet toss, and it would have helped to had someone at these locations to let guests know then things were happening. In all, it was a great venue and all of our guests loved it! I would recommend this place for anyone's event, big or small! :) read more
