My boyfriend and I stayed at the River's Edge over memorial day weekend and had a great time! The weather was beautiful when we went, and it was great to sit on the porch and watch all the birds in the trees and listen to the river. Very peaceful! I like this place a lot. Stop whenever we're on the AP. Not a place for fast food because the beauty of it is taking in the fresh air, slowing down from the manic pace of the city, watching the river and enjoying some wholesome food. The inside is pleasant and old fashioned. The porch tables are a delightful throwback on a summer afternoon. Park your bikes outside and stroll in as you are. Dress code is biker casual. A quaint, little place, right next to the Youghiogeny River. The food is more or less mediocre and won't wow you, and the service was slow (more than 2 hours for dinner), but the view of the river from the porch is more or less worth the price of admission. This place is a little more expensive than I really expected for the quality, but I don't really feel ripped off by it. A worthwhile place to eat if you are visiting the area. read more

My son and I recently biked the GAP and C&O trail from Pittsburgh to DC. On our 2nd day (a Sunday), my son's seat mount bolt sheared off soon after we left Confluence from a nice lunch. With no seat, we rode back into Confluence where we found the Confluence Cyclery closed (owner had sign on the door indicating that he was away). We rode through the town and came upon the River's Edge Café and B&B where my son went inside to seek suggestions on where we might find some help with his seat. After explaining to her that the Bike Shop was closed, the owner - Anna Marie Yakubisin - walked us to her maintenance shop where she invited us to use whatever hardware and tools she had available. She also called her offsite property maintenance person to come in to see if he could help as well. Unfortunately, there were no obvious parts that we could use to fix the problem. She then called the owner of the Confluence Cyclery (Brad Smith who was out of town) herself explaining the situation. The Bike shop owner then called a friend of his to meet us at the Confluence Cyclery to let us into the shop to see if we could repair the seat in his absence. We met Brad Smith's friend (I don't recall his name) at the shop who let us in. After searching for a correct replacement part and unable to find one (he was not sure where the owner kept all of his parts), Mr. Smith's friend called another friend of his who lived nearby and who had a well equipped workshop in the hopes that a proper part or repair could be made there. After riding to his friend's home, we were ultimately able to find a bolt that allowed my son to use his bike for 2 days until we got to Cumberland where we were able to visit the bike shop there for a permanent repair. While this was a very untimely and potentially very problematic situation for us, I cannot express enough praise for the graciousness, kindness, and help provided by Anna Marie Yakubisin and her staff at the River's Edge Café and Bed and Breakfast, Mr. Brad Smith of Confluence Cyclery, and the other folks in Confluence (I wish I knew or could recall their names) who went out of their way to try to help us on a Sunday afternoon. I would encourage anyone reading this to visit Confluence PA to experience the hospitality we did and to patronize the River's Edge Café and Bed & Breakfast and the Confluence Cyclery. We were in the area on a long vacation. The owner of the VRBO suggested River's Edge. The location is beautiful, and even though it was chilly and rainy when we visited, we enjoyed sitting on the porch overlooking the river. The food was OK. I had a chicken special, and while the pineapple black bean salsa on the chicken was good, the chicken itself was overcooked and dry. Another in my party had a similar experience with her chicken. We got there early enough (5pm) that we didn't need a reservation, despite Pumpkin Fest and the influx of bikers. read more

I was waiting 30 minutes to find a table for me. When I got inside then I was waiting next 20 minutes and nobody took my order. Mid time I asked that somebody can take my order and I only got "somebody will come". I even didn't get a coffee, about which I asked on the beginning. Cage has a great view of the river, especially for tables of two. The waitress and staff were great. I had the chicken poulet. It is a gorgonzola covered chicken breast. It was very good. My wife had crabby pasta. It was very sweet and very average. We did not finish it. Apple vinaigrette was extremely sweet. All and all, average good with an above average view and price. read more

My wife and I enjoyed a nice lunch on the porch overlooking the river. We enjoyed the company of the butterflies and birds as they visited the many flowers in bloom. This is a very special place and we will certainly visit it again when in the area. read more

I was really disappointed in our experience here. I was hoping to return someday and check out the Bed and Breakfast side, but that won't be happening. Here is why. We drove forty miles for bad service and raw chicken. We even had reservations. When they sat us the place was empty inside but they would not let us sit at the table with four chairs because someone else come in. Mind you, it was 8 pm and they quit serving at 8:30 they had said. Once seated, we waited about thirty minutes. No menus, no water. I finally flagged one of the waitresses, Maggie. She apologized and went to see who our waitress was. As it turned out, she was. She did not introduce herself however she did apologize. We were served appetizers and salad, all was ok. We asked if it was ok to split a meal, as we often do because I can't eat much. We ordered the special Hawaiian chicken for $21. Our main course came. It was a half a chicken breast with the leg looking part of the wing attached. My date cut into the chicken to split it and it looked raw to me. Just when he went to bite, I said don't! It's raw. We called the waitress and let her know. She apologized and swept up my date's plate. Not mine with the other half of the raw chicken breast on it. She then returned with my date's plate. My date pointed out that my half was raw too...again she swept it up and apologized. While she was gone we realized that the plate brought back to my date was the same piece of chicken recooked! We asked to speak to the manager. Guess who the manager is. Maggie our waitress is the manager. We asked for the owner. Maggie stated the owner was busy eating. I asked again and she refused to even go talk to the owner. By now, I was furious but I did maintain my composure. She offered to bring us a different meal. We declined and asked not to be charged at all. We left thoroughly disappointed. I don't usually post such negative reviews. I don't like to get people in trouble but this was appalling. Rivers Edge Restaraunt is a very nice place rich with history. If the owner really will not see upset patrons, then shame on the owner. The place is doomed with that kind of attitude. If the owner would have seen us, Maggie needs to be replaced. That behavior is a detriment to any establishment. As for the raw chicken and the Chef, June something, mistakes happen and it's forgivable. (I apologize. Her name was on the menu but I do not recall it. I did not find it listed online.) Recooking the same piece of meat is questionable. I don't think Chef Ramsey would have liked it. I sincerely hope this review instigates change to the better for Rivers Edge. As the name says, right at the edge of the Yough river in a restored house. From the porch you can see the water, and it was remarkedbly bug free for a summers night. Not impressed! After a day at Falling Waters, I visited the restaurant with roughly 20 friends and our group leader. Some of the group arrived at least 30 minutes or more late, due to traffic issues. It took 25 minutes before the waitress came to our table to take the drink orders and when she finally took our food order, we waited another 45 minutes without our order or her even coming BACK to our table- at all! We finally realized that even our friends who had arrived AFER us, had received their food and the waitress still, had not come back to our table! Several times she glanced at our table, and still did not come over to update us on our food order. Friends at the other tables, were also wondering where our food was, as they ALL had received their orders. Finally, three of the four African Americans in the group realized what was happening and we walked out due to an apparent case of discrimination. Minutes after walking out, our group leader came out to find out what happened. While explaining to her, the waitress came out and told us our food was on the table. When we refused to go back in, she stated the "restaurant would take a loss for the food if we didn't pay for it", still without offering remorse, an apology or explanation for her service- not she or the restaurant management! The waitress even advised our group leader to go back in and finish her meal, as "it was getting cold" while she was out with us! HORRIBLE SERVICE! People of Color, STAY AWAY!!! read more

The food was terrible. They had this "gourmet pretzel" appetizer that was just a bunch of pretzels out of a bag with honey mustard. We found this cafe on the internet ( we had been to visit Fallingwater and were headed back to Somerset) because the menu looked like something we both would enjoy since we don't eat meat. The house and garden were lovely, and the view of the river a peaceful compliment to our delicious meal! The inside of the restaurant was charming! The service was friendly, reliable and prompt! My finace and I were staying at a local B&B and this place was suggested to us. SInceit was our first weekend away in over a year we decided to go all out on our meal. We had 2 appetizers which included mussels and the seafood ( I believe it was crab), bread, salad (the champagne dressing was amazing), I had the beef ravioili, he had the swordfish special, then we topped it off with keylime pie. Everything was delicious. We both had house wine and it tasted great. I can not begin to say how pleased we were with the selection of food being so close to the end of the season. Try it! My partner and I decided to make a day of bike riding and stop at the Rivers Edge Café. When we arrived we asked if we could sit outside since the view is very charming and quaint. There were only 2 other tables already seated and had ordered food. We ordered 2 beers and an appetizer along with ordering our lunch sandwiches. Our beers and appetizer came pretty quickly. Then the problem started. After we had placed our order 3 more tables were seated. My partner ordered a hummus wrap and I ordered a Cuban pulled pork hoagie. As we sat for about 15 minutes we order 2 more beers. Then 1/2 hour after we had ordered our sandwiches the waitress comes out and starts talking to the table next to us saying they did not have the Cuban pulled pork. The entire wait the waitress kept saying our food was almost done. He told her he didn't order that and then I said I did. She told me I would need to pick something else (this was a 1/2 after I ordered it). I picked a chicken hoagie. Still not upset but thinking it took them a 1/2 hour to realize they did have pork. Here is the crazy part another 1/2 hour goes by and every other table has either gotten their food or were finished and left. I asked about our food and she said it was almost done. This is something I had heard many times in the hour we were there. I told her that we were going to leave and to tell us what we owed for beers and appetizer. She did return and say that manager told us that we owed nothing and we could leave. One thing that is very upsetting since I deal with customers in my own job. Never an apology nor did the manager ever come out and talk to us. It was basically if you don't want to wait for your food you can leave.
