I've been getting care from Dr. Rivera for years now. I often get pretty bad headaches and take ibuprofen, but then I go to see Dr. Rivera and the headaches go away! It's the only thing that helped my headaches that wasn't medicine! At first I was skeptical on ever seeing a chiropractor but I saw him first after I had fallen down 10 stairs and went to the ER and walked out of there with a 6 week diagnosis on crutches. I'm a hair dresser and if I don't work I make nothing. I was devastated. I've been going to Rivera Chiropractic for about 3 months now. When I first went, I was just a month and a half postpartum with my back super messed up from pregnancy. Perhaps that sounds crazy, as I never had had a major issue, but I see him only when I need to as there is no pressure to come in constantly. He helped me get diagnosed with severe spinal degeneration after so many other doctors (including sports medicine MD's) dismissed my symptoms. But during one of those days I just couldn't get comfortable even in the drivers seat of my car which was one of the few places left I could find a comfortable position - I finally got the courage (well, desperation) to get the mri done. Matt Rivera has been adjusting my sporty spice teenage daughter and I for years now. He is always willing to get us in as a walk-in for last minutes tweaks. I've been to other chiropractic offices where they get you to come back for weeks, but with Matt if he can get away with a one and done appointment he will. Every so often we will need a follow up, but it depends on the injury. Everyone in the office is so nice as well. The front desk is always pleasant and the massage therapists that prepare you before you see Matt are top notch. I truly appreciate the family atmosphere, as he has active kids of his own and understands that our young athletes don't have time to be "out" of playing for long. Talk about a one stop shop! I followed my Doc here. Dr. Means. I had lost track of him for a while but I was in a bad way. At work I walk a lot and physical labor can be grueling. I knew something was off. I went to him and we talked about my list of issues. Lack of range of motion, numbness, random pain spikes. Within minutes he had me relaxed adjusted all different ways and I joked that I could 'taste color'. But I wasn't very far off. I realized later that night that my appetite had returned (I hadn't realized that I had lost it), I am walking better, and I have more energy. The greatest thing is he isn't pushy. Dr. Means can cure your migraines! I'd been suffering from migraines 2-5X/month for over 20 years and went to see Dr. Means at Rivera after reading a few articles about chiropractic treatments mitigating migraines. Dr. Means showed me the x-rays of my neck/upper spine that was out of alignment and cutting off blood flow. After 6 treatments my migraines have not reappeared AT ALL. Dr. Rivera worked his magic on my husband! He ended up having sciatic pains to the point that he could not walk! It was scary, we went to the hospital, with a different chiropractor but I didn't see him getting any better. We even went with needles to get the pain to release and the swelling to drop. I ended up buying this certificate gift card from my aunt to help her reach her goal for donation of the school her kids go to. Best investment ever! My husband went in limping in pain and after the second visit he was walking again! It nearly brought me to tears, seeing my husband walking with a smile instead of a sour face full of pain. 3 stars: Dr. Nikki Rivera. Saw for 3 days in a row after my trampoline incident. She was definitely caring and a good adjuster. Her philosophy is to only do what the spine will allow her to do on that day. So, just because she hears a crack one way doesn't mean she has to work my spine to death to hear a crack the other way.... After my first adjustment of the lumbar, thoracic and cervical spine, I felt all tingly and cold. Didn't feel much after my 2nd or 3rd adjustments. Dr. Nikki is a former college basketball player so she understands the need to be physically active daily. She hugs you before you leave. Never had a doctor do that before. Dr. Nikki also took the time to explain my x-rays to me and I greatly appreciated it. 3 stars: Gitte Rivera. She is Dr. Matt's wife and the office manager. She was understanding of my problem with the front desk (who miscommunicated benefits) and after 3 emails and two phone calls (including 20 minutes of protesting from me), agreed to discounting my bill and setting up a 5 month payment plan. 2 stars: the facility, while it looks nice, I saw lots of dust and the trash cans were constantly full. I pointed this out to the front desk, who disclaimed any responsibility. I also had to put paper on the adjusting table myself more than once. Also, for the x-rays, Dr. Steve, the other chiropractor, didn't wear a lead shield. 2 stars: front desk person. She was very nice but did not communicate/understand my insurance benefits. Told me the wrong deal. Ended up paying over $300 out of my pocket. [Ultimately, it is my responsibility.] Hard Lesson Learned: Always call insurance yourself and don't rely on a front desk attendant to quote you the correct benefits. Observation: Dr. Matt Rivera is definitely the more popular of the chiropractors in this group (Dr. Nikki, his sister and Dr. Steve (no relation). If you go to Dr. Matt, you pay the balance in full up front whereas Dr. Nikki and Dr. Steve are contracted providers with some insurances. I was originally referred to Dr. Matt and the front desk person DISCOURAGED me from seeing Dr. Matt and steered me towards Dr. Nikki instead since Dr. Nikki was a contracted provider with my insurance. read more

5 stars for opening on Saturdays to serve those injured or in pain and nowhere to turn; well for those who do not want to rely on the over-the-counter pain killers anyway. My back and neck issues started gradually when I started travelling a lot for my new job a couple weeks ago. Lower back issue came from lifting the luggage over head to put in the storage bin on the plane. Guess I packed too much. Neck issue came from bad posture working on computer. When I woke up last Saturday morning and felt like I had been hit by a bus, I knew it was time to go see a chiropractor. Heck I would need to fly out to Chicago first thing following Monday morning, so I had better get it fixed before that. Then I realized I was out of luck as the chiropractor's office I used to go to a few years back was not open on Saturdays. I thought they were but then realized it was by appointment only. So I turned to the trusty Yelp. Rivera Chiropractic Group was the only one open on Saturdays on the peninsula! Given that the new job hadn't signed me up for medical insurance, I was going to hold out the entire week as I did not want to have to pay the full price. But at this point I was desperate, I would pay anything just to get better. So I called, went in to see Dr. Matt Rivera, got X rays taken on my neck, got some light massage on the "inflamed" areas, then got some adjustments on my neck and back. Guess the new job was really "getting on my nerves" as the badly mis-aligned neck is pinching the nerves around it. After the treatment I felt better right away! I walked in feeling like I needed to lay down for the rest of the weekend but walked out feeling like I could conquer the world! O.K. that was exaggerating; but he practically "saved my back" and I was able to drive all over the places that weekend to see friends and run errands. The whole process took about two hours given I was a drop-in and had to get X rays taken. When I walked in I saw patients waiting in the lobby and patients receiving treatments in the exam rooms. There were a few rooms and they have their own parking spots right next to the clinic too. Even though I paid the full price, which was $255 (after a $50 discount using the Yelp check-in offer) that included initial consultation, x rays and one session of treatment. that was worth it. (I did submit my insurance info this week so I would be able to recover some of the costs through insurance). Again, I can't thank you enough, Dr. Matt, for staying open on Saturdays for those in need. He was very nice and sympathetic and his adjustments really worked. His office staff was very helpful too. After reading Yelp reviews I already had the confidence in him going in. Then my experiences just vouched for that and I went back this afternoon for a 2nd adjustment. Even though I felt much better this week I knew I needed a few more sessions to "get back on track". After all, chronic ailments take time to heal and there is really no "magic pill" to heal immediately. They also have a massage therapist, Monica who can give you 30 minutes of massage for $50 before your chiropractic appointment to help you feel better. What a "full service" office! To avoid a 2nd injury I checked in my luggage this time before boarding for the flight to Chicago on Monday. No more "heavy lifting" for a while! read more

I literally stumbled into the office asking for Dr. Rivera, who was on vacation, I was seen by Dr. Husbands and could not be happier. After the session I was able to walk out of the clinic with only a minor fraction of the pain I felt upon entering. I could stand up straight, and I could breathe easily. They do accept walk in patients, but I recommend at least calling ahead. A friend had recommended Dr. Rivera, and I am told he is wonderful, but all of the associates at this clinic are top drawer. You wrote in 2008, i hope you are better and maybe you did go back! Anyway... I have known Dr. Rivera since he first started and I met him at the San Mateo County Fair the early 1990's. I got the free adjustment there at the booth and he called me back. Wow, I was impressed because he saw that i was having problems and can help me. I went to see him and found that He is the BEST chiropractor around. He is very caring, attentive to your needs, explains what is happening and he is honest. My boys started seeing him since they were early teenagers. We became like family that he hired them to work at his house (little side jobs) and they loved it. He adjusted them as well. When my older son was able to ride the train by himself, he brought himself to see Dr Rivera because he was taught how to listen to your body and know when an adjustment is needed. My boys were in school sports. It was great seeing the 49ers there (Montana, Rice for example, San Jose Sharks at his first office) hmmmm must be good if they are going there huh?. Dr. Rivera adjusted Joe Montana even when we went to Kansas....requested by Montana. What does that tell you? When my son broke his collar bone playing in PAL....Kaiser said oh it will just fuse together and he will have a lump at his collar for awhile. i asked what? He is still growing and now his collar bone is shorter? I immediately called Dr Rivera, I brought him in (he could hardly walk). After looking at his x-rays, there was a clean break, so he put him on the machine and popped his collar bone back to meet the break and my son was walking out with a big smile! Oh Dr. Rivera was "God" to me at the time. He became family to us and my boys. He adjusted my daughter-in-;aw when she was pregnant and now my grandson's are 11 and 10 yrs old. I had a rear-end car accident in 1994 on the freeway and he took care of me, referred me to his attorney and i am still grateful today for this concern, care and his treatments. When adjustments are not working like they should, he will refer you to see your medical doctor for further observations. Well, he was right - I had to have a Cervical Disc Surgery (Bone fusion) in 2002 due to Degenerative Arthritis and I'm so much better. When i have a cold, cough - I get an adjustment (it really works to get better faster) Today, my husband & I still see Matt Rivera as well as my kids. He has recently taken care of our nephew, a Basketball player for the Philippine Basketball team "Smart Gilas" for his injury. He was amazed how much better he felt, mentioned he hasn't felt this way in a long time and thanked me for having him see Dr. Rivera. Seems like they are in the business of service! I was recommended by a co worker to see Dr. Rivera. Everyone was really friendly and courteous. I had my initial exam including an xray with Dr. Roh and a consultation with Dr. Rivera. I got adjusted by Dr. Rivera and he's pretty good. I have been to a few chiropractors before and have had my share of both good and bad chiropractors. After feeling a bit lighter on my feet, I checked out. At check out, I was told that my cost would be $290. They couldn't verify my insurance because it was after 5pm. I paid for it of course but was a bit shocked and realized that the initial cost of service was never discussed. Before I left, I asked if they could verify what my insurance would and wouldn't cover. I received a call this AM saying that the care I received from Dr. Rivera wasn't covered but if I were to see Dr. Roh, I would be covered. I was shocked and upset. I get that my insurance policy is what it is but still it's upsetting. I called back asking more questions and trying to see if something could be done but couldn't really ask the right questions. Claire is the person I spoke to and she could tell I was upset. I hung up the phone and within minutes, I received another call from Gitte, the office manager. She knew that I was upset and that didn't settle well with her. She worked with me on making sure that she could fix the problem and that we would end the call on a happy note. I whole heartedly and sincerely appreciate the customer service this practice brings. It makes me happy to know that they are not just about money but that they are all about the patients. After about 10 years of having hip pain that would usually start up after a massage I decided to visit Dr.Rivera. Before Dr.Rivera, I've seen about 5 doctors and was told it's my flat feet, the way I walk, sleep, it's in my head, I'm a hypochondriac, blah blah blah. The initial exam took about 1 hour and I was begging in to wonder if all this checking is necessary. What now? Xrays? Why? Why? Why? Well..turns out I have an extra vertebrae and after massages (if too much pressure is applied) it caused my spine to become misaligned which fed into my hip nerves! Why hasn't anyone else Xray my spine before? Not even an ortho surgeon! So after my (internal) whining about having to go see a Chiropractor, I am pain free and so thankful to Dr.Rivera taking that Xray and figuring out what's wrong with me ! You would not know it to look at my somewhat overweight, out-of-shape physique, but I have extremely flexible joints and can be very difficult to adjust if the chiropractor is a smaller-framed person. Dr. Rivera came highly recommended by a good friend of mine who was greatly helped by Dr. Rivera. I highly recommend being seen by Dr Rivera. The first time I saw Dr Rivera was because I had an unbearable neck pain (that had me in tears) on top of having a cold. After getting adjusted, I have never been so happy, relieved and a little surprised that he had immediately alleviated all of the pain.
