This place is to be used as an emergency only... the store is clean, the employees are very friendly for the most part, the down side for me is their outrageous prices... and I mean outrageous!! They think their deli items that are made in house are worth their weight in gold, a pint of potato salad costs $18.67 stay away from the deli... their ground beef and house made sausages are a decent price at $6.80ish a lb... I've shopped a couple times as I don't like to make the drive to Chester for a normal cute market, I've left my cart a couple times due to being so upset at all the prices!! Bread is a decent price, they get it from Sysco or U.S. foods and they re-bag it like they bakes it, but it's a decent price and it's pretty good!! Last resort only kind of place read more

Our go-to local market! The staff is so friendly and the managers have put lots of thoughtful work into it the last few years. Their house made salads and flatbreads are delicious and always fresh. For a smaller market they really have almost everything - I needed gochujang sauce for a recipe once, not expecting them to have it, but sure enough they did! They also source as much as they can locally which we love to support. Highly recommend this spot if you're in the area! read more

They have amazing selection and the customer service was amazing! Phoebe, Ken and Ashleigh were such a great help! The grinders and salads were so delicious! I love this little place. It's a small grocery store with killer food. You can pick up some fresh local veggies, some premade dinners or order something fresh from the deli (highly recommend the curried chicken salad), some gourmet crackers or olives and some Ben and Jerry's. This is a FANTASTIC Market on Bridge Rd right off across from DD in Haddam CT. I was visiting the Hartford area & running around purchasing stuff from FB Mktplace. It's a LARGE COUNTRY Grocery store with a HUGE selection of all kinds of stuff. It's located right next to Tony's Beer, Wine & Spirits! They have a very nice Deli with made to order sandwiches. They also have a prepared entrees & a big selection of cold salads. They have a VERY GOOD Butcher & meat selection. They have a fresh seafood counter with live lobsters also. Their grocery selection is comprehensive. They have plenty cold drinks, asstd chips, candy for sale also. They also sell ice, & propane too! And they have picnic tables out front with patio umbrellas for eating any deli items! read more

We love this little market! From the outside it looks like a basic convenience store, but inside it is so much more. Whenever we are nearby we stop in, not for regular grocery items, but for the specialty items. They carry a great selection of local cheeses, as well as charcuterie meats and olives. We also love the salads/prepared foods at the deli counter. They always have unique items that other area stores don't carry, like curry chicken salad, or edamame dumplings. Everything we've ever tried has been tasty! Their meat counter looks fantastic, and they have a great selection of cookies and treats near the registers. I highly recommend the almond joy cookies! If you need staple items, they have a big selection too. If we lived closer, I would be there all the time, but for now I enjoy it as a special treat when in the area. read more

Have had too many bad experiences with this place; outdated by numerous days perishable items still on the shelf, I bought a danish that had a date of many days in the future and it was moldy the day after I purchased it... Someone is really dropping the ball with quality control here, I tried to reach out via FB, and my husband tried as well, no one even bothered to respond or address our concerns.... Someone can get sick!! A good friend has also had several issues with this place; spoiled ground beef, moldy cheese, etc.... Unacceptable, have definitely lost my business.... The owner of this establishment will hopefully take notice, and pay better attention to what's going on in their store!! read more

I will only go there if I am in desperate need of something. Make sure to check the expiration dates on your items. Several times I have gotten home to realize my purchase(s) have been expired for 6 weeks or more. Yes, shame on me for not checking in store but shame on staff for not rotating products. I'm sure the kid at the register just restocked the item when it was returned. No sense of concern and no management to be found. read more

River Valley Provisions has a great meat counter - and I'd like to point out their Hatfield pork and store-made sausages in particular. We picked up a Hatfield crown roast for Christmas dinner - not only did the butcher put the crown roast together, but it was probably the best pork we've ever had. read more

I started coming here when the Subway across the street closed, and honestly I can't believe I haven't been coming here all along. Their sandwiches are amazing! I haven't even set foot in a Subway since I started getting my sandwiches here. Just go up to the meat counter in the back of the store, there's a menu and everything. Tell them what you want, they'll make it for you. 10 or 15 minutes and it's ready. Or just call the store, they'll put you through to the meat department. Tell them your order, and it'll likely be ready for you to pick up by the time you get to the store. The meats, cheeses and vegetables they use are quality. One thing I hope for though is a larger selection of hoagie-style bread (whole wheat would be good, and there was this Italian herbs and cheese bread I really liked back when I still went to Subway) read more

Fantastic market. Butcher counter is top notch, delicious seafood, a TON of premade food to go, a bunch of local cheeses. Only slight downside is the veggie section is a bit small, but it has almost everything you need for most meals. By the way the bananas are so old they are dusty, the bread lasts about a day after you buy it and the meat counter is teixe as much as the competition. I do love this place, it is pricey but the quality is usually very good. Today I stood at the counter wanting to order some prepared food and was the only one there. I stood there for 5 minutes and watched 2 employees working behind the counter. They did not make eye contact or acknowledge me. I assume they were working on an order and would have settled for acknowledgement and a "be right with you". I got neither. Then someone came out from the back, looked at me, and walked down the counter and said to someone who came after I arrived and said "have you been helped?" Ironic. I will still patronize this place because I do understand that there is difficulty in getting help and they have a lot of turnover, and like I said the quality is good to great. I am just a little taken aback that some staff, even if newly hired, do not have common sense customer service basics. read more

I love this little market. I used to work nearby and frequently stopped to grab a sandwich or soup for lunch and sometimes a missing ingredient or two for dinner. The fish and meat are particularly good, many of the meat products (like the chicken sausages) are made on site and are very tasty. This little place has some of the best steaks. Most times I come they have prime beef that is just fantastic. Their deli also has some salads and one time they had these fantastic kimchi and pulled pork dumplings available. Delicious! They have homemade breads, baked goods, desserts, and also a great selection of cheese. They had samples of a wonderful truffle cheese a few weeks ago. I think this is a great little gem that I am lucky enough to have relatively close by. read more

I have to question the validity of these reviews after witnessing some disturbing things at River Valley Provision Store at 95 Bridge Rd, Haddam, CT 06438. As I was getting out of my car a young woman was calling to a Keith (I remember the name because she called repeatedly) who was outside having a cigarette and drinking alcohol. I just thought it was her boyfriend or husband. I entered the store, which is poorly lit, and started through looking at very small selections of fresh items. I made my way back to the meat/deli counter and was so disappointed to hear the language and topic of conversation. Very inappropriate. Then I saw the "Keith" working there. That did it for me, I left my little basket and walked out of the store. Haddam is such a nice little area but I will not recommend staying there as this seems to be the only place close to do your grocery shopping. I guess when you think you are the only game in town you can do whatever you please without consequence. read more

The meat and fish at this store is fantastic. The quality is exceptional. Thoroughly recommend you try the rib eye and Porterhouse steaks, Hatfield pork chops, the lamb chops, the lovely fresh salmon, cod and hard-to-find dry sea scallops. The turnaround of this store is nothing less than miraculous. A few years ago there was nothing but a few sad cans on mostly empty shelves, and grumpy staff. Now they have local cheese, fresh veggies and of court the aforementioned stellar fish and meats. Also it's right beside a pretty good wine/liquor store, so how can you go wrong. Enjoy! read more

3 times I bought store made salads from RVP. Potato and egg salad, macaroni salad with tuna, and coleslaw. All 3 salad's were bought different time's throughout 2019, and they all contained long hairs in them. Also found an eyelash in one of them. Employee's that work there should be wearing hair nets and beard nets while preparing fresh food. They do not so I will not be shopping there anymore. read more

Small but adequate selection of other basics.Much better than the other market in town , Had only one bad experience with their ready to eat take out meals. But much better than the other market in Haddam .Their regular Rib Eye and Cowboy steaks are excellent and even the local grass fed Rib Eye and NY Strip steaks are the tenderest I ever had. I feel bad but not such a great experience. The store is pretty much a full grocery with fresh seafood, meats etc. first, the store needs more lighting. It is quite dark and dreary looking, kinda depressing. we went to buy fish and since my husband and i wanted different types we got half lb size pieces. The swordfish was already cut in larger pieces but we asked for a half pound piece. The woman serving us actually chided us for not buying the whole larger piece saying "most people just buy the whole piece because if i cut off a small piece who's going to buy it?" Really? Since when is it the customers responsibility to buy more than needed so that we take the hit and not the store that chose to cut the size pieces in somewhere in between one and two servings? read more
