    Beef Tenderloin

After a family owned Italian meat market in Durham sold to new owners my wife and I were looking for a new place to purchase our weekly provisions. I had heard about this establishment and read all the positive reviews. Well we went there and were VERY impressed and excited to try everything because it all looked fresh and juicy. We even bought chicken jerky for our pups . The nice man behind the counter made us a 3 pound tenderloin roast that was a work of art trimmed perfectly and tied up nicely. The roast tasted even better than it looked tender and juicy with no waste. We will be coming back here for sure.

Come early or be ready to stand in line for a bit. Worth the wait ,but it is still a 3 person max inside to order every time . Two guys usually run the show and they are quick & precise. Ask them questions and if you need help bringing stuff to the car they will help with that too. The prices are great and they are nice and stocked . Prices are easily seen and you can get as much or little as you'd like. It's pretty cold once you enter the door to go inside ,so wear a coat or sweater, you can thank me later !!!!

These guys are great! Pre ordered a bunch of pork to make my charcuterie. I asked to have them cut the cops part also. They actually brought me in the back to ensure it was the cut I needed. The guy flew through about 6 of them in 5 minutes. It would of taken me 30! Thanks for the help! Great pricing also!

They have meat Wow, I'm basically a vegetarian, so what the hell am I doing here? Well, a friend dragged me here to help her carry some stuff she ordered. What an experience. All kinds of meat hanging and laying everywhere. Parts of creatures I didn't realize people actually ate. Guys walking around wearing aprons with truly disgusting strains. However, they certainly did have a lot of meat. All kinds of meat, fish, and seafood and I did find some great shimp there for myself. I'm still not sure what to think of this place, but f you love meat. lots of meat, including guts and brains and whatever, this is certainly the place to go. Nothing phony or deceptive here, it's all about meat.

Lino's is as good as any we've visited and far better than quite a few. The deli and sandwich counter has a big variety of great looking goods, the meat department has pretty much everything, the bakery has tons of rolls and breads, the refrigerated cases have enough different prepared foods and salads to give you something new every day for a month, a big produce department, and grocery aisles that are packed. We scooped up a huge 2 pound package of eggplant parmigiana that will yield at least four servings for $12.95. It had plenty of sauce and cheese, but most importantly the eggplant was tender, sliced thin so it wasn't rubbery, and not greasy at all. Truth be told, it was fabulous! We wanted some of their garlic knots to go with the eggplant, and I mistakenly thought they sold them up at the cash register where all of the breads and rolls were. The sweet young lady at the register told us the knots were at the sandwich counter, and before I knew it she was running over to the counter, asked us how many we wanted, and swiftly packaged up four of them for us. Now THAT'S what I call customer service.

Prices have gone way up, I know they have everywhere, but disproportionately so at Lino's. The Boar's head lunch meat that was consistently $1-$2 cheaper than the grocery store is now more expensive. They don't carry the same variety or imported items that Lino had. Around Christmas I bought 2 pepperoni sticks and cut into them and they were rancid. They took them back, but it's no longer a reliable spot for me. They changed their breads. Sometimes they're stale and they got rid of my favorite seeded rolls from NY. Brought in impostors that look the same but don't taste the same. They never have sourdough bread anymore, their meat counter is always half empty or more. They don't seem to make muffins in the morning anymore either. It's just a sad shell of what Lino's used to be. There's really just no reason for me to go there anymore. And people must agree with me because the parking lot is always empty when I drive by. Check out Avella's in Middletown for great sandwiches and broccoli rabe and other salads. And Krauzer's in Durham for yummy breakfast sandwiches! Lino's day in the sun has passed. It's too bad because it was close to home and I used to really love it.

Not only can you get the most incredible latin food, but you can also buy Faygo soda, Lottery Tickets, Cheetos & a "Loosey". Dont be "scurred" by the appearance, and don't let your apprehension stop you from enjoying some of the best latin food around. You'll undoubtedly have to bypass the riff-raff that congregates near the front door, but once you get inside the smells of sweet plaintains and freshly cooked pork waft through the air. A steam table near the back is filled with the delicacies of the day. Roasted Pernil, Chicken Legs in Adobo, and Steak simmered in peppers & onions. Yellow Rice & Beans, and Sauteed Plaintains. Fried Pork, Empanadas & Renello De Papas are in the warming cabinet up front. Lunch containers come in 3 sizes ($4 for small, $6 for medium & $8 for large), and come with rice, beans, plantains and your choice of meat. You can also buy meat by the pound ($6.99). Trust when I say this food is addicting. You WILL crave it again and again, and find excuses to make your way back to middletown for lunch time. Keep in mind that it's lunch time only, and they only make a certain amount of food, so once they're out, you're out of luck. I'm also not sure if they cook on weekends, or if they accept credit cards (i've always gone on a weekday & paid with cash). You can easily get away with lunch for 2 here under $15 and be completely stuffed. Go and enjoy a place that I used to keep in my secret stash...

The stocking is inconsistent so I can never rely on being able to get the products I come in for. This is particularly true for buttermilk which I buy weekly. Yes, it is a specialty item but the store is plenty large enough to keep it in stock and perhaps carry more than the one expensive option offered. In terms of the other selection, it is hard to find unusual ingredients and yet there does often seem to be a decent selection of tropical fruit. The bakery has very mediocre bakes and an average selection at best. There is nothing truly horrifying; I mean to say the place is relatively clean, no vermin, nothing that could actually get me to stop being lazy and go somewhere I enjoy shopping. This particular branch is pretty basic and low-tech. Finally, the staff and employees are a mixed batch that kind of breaks down to be 25% spiteful, 50% ambivalent, and 25% pleasant.
