Great store, great food, fresh salad and homemade salad dressing ! Love that they support local farmers ! The staff is helpful and knowledgeable. And I love to support a small local business. Stopped in for some all natural products (just browsing) and I can't believe how much stuff is in here! There is so much to choose from; hair care, prepped food, snacks, dog food and snacks and they are all organic and naturally made without cruelty or any additives. The woman here (I wish I didn't forget her name cause she was the sweetest and very helpful) gave me holistic suggestions to my inflammatory knee swelling and pain. I have tried everything over the counter, prescription, orthopedic medicine; nothing helps but natural and organic medicine!!! It's time we start using what Mother Nature gave us! I've also come here in the past after some physical agility fighting which left me SORE and didn't want to take a bunch of over the counter meds. Arnica gel and tabs are great! As well as the natural Joint formulas read more

It's Only Natural Market - Grocery Near Me - Middletown, Connecticut

It's Only Natural is a great little grocery store on Main Street in Middletown. It's small, but this might be a one stop shop, if it just wasn't so expensive. There's everything in this store, organic produce, juices, vitamins and supplements, chocolate and candy I've never seen before, they even have a little section where you can get a fresh smoothie or a sandwich. There's an area where you can sit with your food. They even have a post office in this little grocery store. But it is expensive.. a box of cereal is $7.49, and it's not even a large box. They had a 5 pound jar of local honey for $50.00. I stopped in to pick up some crackers for my guacamole, I picked some really nice ones for only $3.29, but half the bag was air. This is not the fault of the store of course. It's a lot of fun to walk through a store where everything looks new, and innovative. If you're in the area stop by, always shop smart, not impulsively. read more

I really like this small, wannabee While Foods in Middletown. I mean in the best way possible. They always have deals on their products with something or another being on sale most days. They have really good soups which change daily, with flavors like: broccoli cheddar, buffalo chicken, chicken tortilla... so many different flavors that they've had but they keep 3 out on a daily basis. They're also the area where you can order fresh made sandwiches or juices. The juices are definitely refreshing and feel "clean," if that makes sense. Try them all, they're yummy! read more

I absolutely love and appreciate ION Market. I've been shopping here for about 20 years if not more. We moved out of state a couple years ago, but when we return, we always go back to shop. Their food from the deli is delicious, the juices are amazing. The owners and staff are very helpful, knowledgeable and accommodating. The prices are just fine. I appreciate that they have certain brands that are organic at a reduced price as well. They carry local organic items and have a large variety of supplements And groceries. Instead of giving large corporations, that are so removed from the true needs and wants of their customers and the surrounding community, I prefer to shop at conscious, friendly, local businesses that I value, and who value their customers And neighborhoods such as ION Market. read more

We frequent this market regularly and are obsessed with the deli counter/smoothie bar. Ally and her staff are so quick to fill to orders with a smile. The food quality is top notch - there's nothing like it in the area. Also, Carrie is very knowledgeable in all things supplements and if there is something they don't carry that I'm interested in, she will order it. I highly recommend this market!! read more

I've been shopping this market for over 20 years. I go back to the days when the restaurant and the store were one, back when it was in its original Main Street location. Before there was a "NORA". This market has always been slightly overpriced, but it has gotten better over the years. They have also improved on their selection of goods in all of the departments. The gluten free selection is one of the best in the area. They have pantry staples, frozen foods and bakery items. I recently purchased a pint of Halo Top here for $6.50. It's a little pricey, but this Diabetic needs her ice cream! The prepared foods have come a long way from the days of egg rolls and pizza (though the egg rolls can still be found in the case). There are assorted salads, pastas, sandwiches and other miscellaneous goodies. While here you can visit the juice bar or even drop off a letter at their USPS counter. There are tables and chairs outside, to enjoy your purchases. read more

I have been frequenting this establishment for years. This is the only place I know of where one can get raw milk anywhere in CT--which is a huge plus if you are looking for it. Juice bar is great---also plenty of sandwich choices--vegan and otherwise, and also salads, soups available which one can order. Also, a great place to buy quality supplements, especially if one is trying to avoid GNC and other chain vitamin/supplement stores. Comparable to online and other store prices. I have also gotten some great sale deals on organic cleaners, dish washing liquids, soaps and such which once I tired I l really liked. The store is a tad small, and the prices can be expensive when not on sale. However, definitely worth shopping at if in the area. Oh, and they carry Green and Black's chocolates which are increasing difficult to find. read more

We found the staff to be extremely rude and won't be bringing our business here again. We always try to support local, so we hope the owner will encourage better customer service in their employees. read more

I stepped into it's only natural for a healthy lunch option.. I decided to have a health food salad due to the fact that the sandwich and smoothie bar was closed at the time .. I have to say after reading all of the reviews and seeing how rudely the staff has treated its customers I was pleasantly surprised that the girl behind the cash register was very friendly.. she actually commented on my salad and said that she loves chickpeas !! Because she was so friendly I decided to stay at the store and have my lunch I am pleasantly surprised and will be back again read more

I think there may be some reviews of this place mixed in with the restaurant by the same name in middletown (that isn't owned by the same people) .. It's good to know ION market is there, but any time i have gone in looking for that one thing that other stores havent had in stock i have always been disappointed. the specialty things i have wanted to find there weren't always to be found - and when they were, it was always so crazy over priced that driving to glastonbury to whole foods would have saved me money. i think the new location is a little nicer of a layout, but it seems like the prices also went up! read more

We just had a lovely visit to this organic market. I thought it was fabulous. Amongst some other items, we purchased some hummus. I thought it tasted funky. Jack thought it tasted sour which I should like. I love acidity but still thought it was had a strange flavor. I even commented on organics, saying they often don't have the flavor I like. Well Jack locked at the plastic container and the price tags was over the sell by tag. Sell by 2/24! Today is 4/02!!! Caveat emptor! Not ok! read more

I am apalled by how ION Marketplace sells an extensive variety of health-related goods at utmost rediculously high prices. The only reason I would ever return here is to dine-in at the mini café/ juice bar. Today, I ordered a Green Pear (12oz) smoothie for $4.99. I liked price of the smoothie slightly more than the taste (which is enough to satisfy me. LOL). Moreover, this establishment provides a spacious parking lot for ION customers. read more

This is my go-to store. I have a gluten allergy and it's a pain to run around the larger stores to search for the few gf products they have. At ION there's a good selection, and I'm addicted to the chicken salad in their deli case. read more

If you shop the sale items it's a decent place, and they carry "The Bridge" a locally made and properly fermented tofu and the price point on that is the same as everywhere else. Great resource in a pinch if you need to pay full price for something at least you don't have to drive miles, but the regular prices are a bit high. Staff are always nice. read more

A fair selection of natural items, but definitely on the expensive side. I like to stop here to grab a ready made vegan meal and some healthy sweets/desserts once in a while. What I don't like as much are the prices, as they're about as high as Whole Goods, if not even more steep in some cases. I got a small container with five falafel balls and tahini. It was $7, but I was in the mood for it, so I begrudgingly shoveled out the dough. Look for sales here and you can find some good deals. Today they had a section with nuts and dried fruits that were half off. I would buy more frozen foods and produce here, IF the prices were lower. Sometimes the selection is not as "fresh" as I'd like, especially considering what they sell for. All in all, if you're nearby, it's worth a stop, but I wouldn't recommend go out of your way to come here. Whole Foods (for a larger selection) or Stop & Shop (much cheaper) are better bets for shopping. read more

This health food store is incredible. I'm from San Diego, CA and I visit CT once a year and my first stop is always this place. I cannot eat gluten, soy or dairy due to a health ailment (and I'm a vegetarian,) so I have VERY limited places to eat; It's only natural (in addition to their restaurant) literally saves my life. My favorite things about this store are: The large selection of products within one category (whoever does the ordering- you're doing amazing!) The sandwich/ smoothie bar Tons of teas to choose from Very friendly staff Delicious gluten free bread (which is hard to find!) The layout and cleanliness of the store. Highly recommend! read more

I love ION! I have never had a bad experience with this shop. Great, attentive staff. For a small business, their prices are acceptable - sometimes, their prices are better than large chain stores! read more

Quality, service, selection. Produce where you don't need to even pick through. It's all good, selected by staff. Items you won't find elsewhere. A few quibble that some prices are higher than can be gotten elsewhere. So? Just go to Walmart and be done with it, then. The service here has always been excellent. Sandwiches awesome. My choice for a natural foods store. And I have been shopping in them since 1974. read more

I was excited when this place opened and disappointed the first time I visited. The selection is poor for such a large area (way too much space dedicated to silly greeting cards and bath products). Fruit wasn't very fresh. Staff seemed rude and uncaring. I heard a woman asking about a specific product and one of the guys (who appeared to be in charge) respond flatly "We don't have it." Not- we have something similar or we'll get it for you, just "we don't have it." Being a new store and with such a small market they're catering to, you'd think they would be more accommodating. The worst part is the prices. Yes of course health food markets are expensive, but this place takes it over the top. I paid $45 for a bag of dog food that I later bought the exact same bag at another store for $23. Ouch! They get 2 stars instead of 1 just for existing in an area where there isn't much competition. read more

I have to agree with the general consensus here: Pros: - Good ready-made food for a quick lunch. Delicious. - Hey, at least there's something in town, right? - Large gluten-free section (although I'm not, it still has a good selection) Cons: - It is really expensive and there are other options. Heck, even Price Chopper has good prices on Quorn. And it's not a little expensive, it's about double going rate expensive (umboshi paste is a whopping $20 here and $10 or less elsewhere). Frankly the co-op in Saybrook is a better option. It seems like they're stuck in the loop of "not big enough, so it's expensive; but it's expensive so they don't have the customers to expand" (IONM should consider becoming a co-op). - Their selection isn't great overall. This is a small place and things get left by the wayside e.g. (no plain non-dairy yogurt). I haven't found any employees that were particularly rude, so maybe they've addressed that. I do go here on occasion, but don't find it useful enough to give it more than Three Stars. read more

I've stopped here twice when I'm in the area for work. It's a nice, clean market. The layout is a bit odd, that you have to walk through the beauty products before getting to the food section. But I guess that's how they hook you on the beauty products! I opted for some prepared lunch items, and a freshly made juice. I had the beet/ginger juice both days. It was delicious, but $4! I thought for a small, the price was a bit high. The pre-made salads I had both days were good. I really like the falafel platter! The staff was nice, but didn't seem overly zealous in what they were doing. I feel like in a "natural market" there should be employees that are passionate about their food and products. I'll be back if I'm in the area, but I wouldn't make the 20 minute drive just because. read more

While it certainly does the job as a health food store and mini cafe, it is unfortunately overpriced for items that you can find at most supermarkets. Also the guy who just made my smoothie looked like he'd rather be absolutely anywhere else but there haha BUT, the smoothie which was yum, and I got a veggie burger - yay for quick, easy vegan lunches!! Not every day a girl can find something fast and vegan so I'm grateful that this place exists. And it does have lots of items - for the omnivore and the carnivore alike:) read more

I'd like to give a more generous review, as I've had several good experiences here. But overall, I think a middling review is in order. As others have indicated, the staff can be less than pleasant. The smoothie/juice guy has been notably rude to me, which is too bad given their smoothies being one of their best features. Pro tip: You pay for your smoothie/juice at the main counter, not at the smoothie/juice counter. They carry a lot of organic/natural/vegan brands, including things not accessible at chain venues. The prices vary from great deal to great dent in the wallet. A lot of items are on sale at any given time. Interesting fact: A Middletown post office location operates in the store. You'll stand opposite the desk as you wait in line far longer than you ought to. read more

I know most people have labeled this place expensive, but if you live in Middletown like me and want to walk to a grocery store, this is one of the only options you're going to get. The selection is limited if you're use to Stop and Shop...but if you're looking for Whole Foods type selection of Organic/Natural sauces, vinegars, oils, tofu, cereal, chips, spices, nuts, coffee, and a myriad of lotions & potions then ION Market is all you can ask for! I like to frequent ION Market when I don't have time after work to run up to Glastonbury WF, I think of it as the more expensive but more convenient annex. The produce here is also very limited, but well priced (well...better priced than the dry goods) and they carry all you need (aka the basics). They do make sandwiches/paninis and soup at lunchtime, and they also sell fairtrade organic coffee for anyone who's lookin! And if you're gluten free, ION carries an entire DEPARTMENT of gluten free goods. Here are other random things you should know: -ION doesn't have a meat counter. They sell Applegate Farms brand deli meat, bacon, etc. -There is a post office inside! -PARKING LOT! -Bulk section is AMAZING. I'm so thankful ION Market exists...it brings something to Middletown that it was missing before. read more

They are overpriced, and their employees and owner are so straight up rude I usually shop elsewhere for my gluten-free and health food supplies. I stopped in today because it was convenient. As I got to the register I noticed refrigerator magnets and stopped to read them. Lots of anti-Trump, pro-Obama magnets, one stating how stupid Trump voters are. This is just so unprofessional. I told the girl at the counter that since the owner thinks I'm stupid I'll buy my food from someone who appreciates by business and left my unpurchased selections with her to put away. I won't be back. read more

I absolutely love It's Only Natural. They have a great selection of organic and natural food, beauty and baby products as well as holistic care products. I feel that the prices here are very comparable or even cheaper than organic and natural food products at your local supermarket. The market is very quaint and quiet and you almost never have to wait in a long line. I usually come here for groceries esp fresh fruit and veggies. I'm also very interested in natural oils and they have a great selection. I use my oils for skin care needs. There is a organic juice bar in the back and it's pretty amazing. I stop in after my spinning or Zumba classes in the morning. read more

Giving one more star because in light of my frequent travels through the underworld that is the NYC health food store scene I realized ION has amazing deals most times and an amazing bulk bin selection. Stock up. I still dream of $1.99 organic pineapples and mango. :( read more

Almost weekly I frequented this store for a couple of years. Except for one employee, there was no recognition of your presence by the managers who did not smile or say hello. Then, I found out that the male manager there was down right unfriendly refusing to refund a $4.00 milk which was spoiled. It was $4!! I decided I would go else where to spend my money. I started driving to Glastonbury Whole Foods which I found out was infinitely better than IONS in terms of variety and price. WF has recently lowered their organic vegetable price by about a third so it is definitely cheaper and fresher than IONS. To make life even better, I discovered WHOLE FOODS DELIVERY. It is just the best! You can order items that IONS does not stock at a lower price delivered to your house within 2 hours! WHOLE FOODS deliver vegetables, fruits, meat, bread, bottled water, prepared food boxes you can cook yourself etc etc and sends them in a special bag for the perishables. If you get their credit card, they give back 5%. By the way, Whole Foods has positive vibes and they will work with you. When an item I bought was spoiled, all I had to do was to call them and tell them the date I bought the item. They looked it up on their computer and refunded right away. I did not have to show up with receipts or spoiled item to prove that I was not trying to cheat them out of $4!! read more

I've been here several times a year over the last few years. Good smoothies, great selection of health food/products. My only complaint is the prices. I just got a bottle of vitamins for $27 that goes for $17 everywhere else online. That's a big mark-up. I needed them asap so I bought them but next time I will plan ahead. read more

I visited this place in March 2011. Wow, I think every single one of the employees here were rude. Almost like they all got pissed off when I walked in. Never any eye contact with me, no hello when I walked in, nobody would help me. Had to break up the conversation between 3 of them so that I could pay...and of course they were annoyed at me for that. It was very strange indeed. Prices were very expensive and selection was relatively small. I drove out of the parking lot thinking that I must have been in the Twilight Zone or something. Just a very negative energy inside those 4 walls. Very strange and NOT a place I would EVER visit again. Now I do enjoy the restaurant that has the same name and it is located down the street. I believe the owners are different. Go there, but avoid this market like the plague! As for needing a market, drive up to Whole Foods in Glastenbury instead. read more

Totally not expecting it, but they have the best egg and cheese sandwich I have ever had. It was in a little multigrain "one bun" and it was absolutely amazing. I have no idea how the egg was cooked but it was so delicious. I cannot get over it. I came in looking for tea, which they have an amazing selection of. I walked by the deli a few times and saw the "breakfast sandwiches all day" sign on the counter and decided to give it a try. I had not had breakfast or lunch so I thought it was a good grab as I continued Christmas shopping. WOW. It was amazing. I also had a fresh berry smoothie. Yum! And...then I also walked out with $50 worth of tea. The decision to limit to only that was still pretty hard. read more

I called for assistance is supplements. She was pretty rude. I won't be shopping there. It was if I was bothering her.

I will agree with the folks who point out the excessive cost of things here and I will add my disappointment with the woman who is 'available' in the supplements section. I was in search of prebiotic supplements (not probiotic) and she had no idea what I was talking about, nor did she seem interested in it. I would have gone to the CT Natural Health center on Washington St as they have supplements but they were closed and ION was close. read more
