For a…read moresmall donation per person ($20 -all of which goes directly back to caring for the animals), you are taken on a tour of the entire sanctuary. Our knowledgeable and personable guide, intern Destini, was great! She explained the back story of each animal and answered our questions throughout the tour. These animals are able to live with as much care and freedom as possible now that they have a sanctuary to meet their needs. The grounds are well taken care of and you can tell that each person who works here is dedicated to the mission. I will definitely be back to visit and support IEAS.

Some people get wild animals as pets when they are small. When they get to big to handle, they have to go somewhere. There are sanctuaries all over the United States, with quite a few in Texas. Located in Boyd, you would never know it's there. IEAS is run by volunteers and donations. They are zoo accredited. They have 50 acres to work with. Cages is a terrible name for the habitats these animals live in. Some are acres large and the animals can roam freely. Yes, it's perfectly safe to visit. They've gone to a lot of trouble for the safety of the animals and people. In addition to management, there are interns that live onsite and do all the work. They have volunteer veterinary services that come every week to check the animals. There are grocery chains that donate food. I was so impressed with the dedication of every single person there. It's $20 for adults and $10 for kids to take the tour. This is a donation. Feel free to give more or less, whatever you can afford. Since no one else showed up, Lisa, one of the interns, was our personal tour guide. We loved it. There are currently 74 different animals here, and she knows the name of every one! She knew where they came from and why they were here. Some of the stories will break your heart, but ending up here is a good thing. Animals stay here till they die. See the memorial page on their website. Many of the animals have become used to people, and appear friendly. NO, you can't pet them, but they are so beautiful you will fall in love with them. The pictures we took just don't do them justice. They are beautiful. You need to see them for yourself. Tours last 2 hours and you will enjoy every minute. LOTS of walking so wear comfortable shoes. See their website for details. Everyone that can, please go. They need the donations, and you'll have a great time!

My friend and I enjoyed walking the overlook trail, including seeing the views of the lake. The weather was sunny and breezy and we got a good workout. I like that they don't allow dogs here to preserve their wildlife. We saw a couple of deer on our walk which was lovely. We look forward to our next visit to Eagle Mountain Park.

Eagle Mountain Park has great hiking trails along with some scenic views. One of the best features…read moreof this park is that it's pedestrian only and there are no bikes or dogs allowed. This makes for a great hiking experience. Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge lover of dogs, but I love that this park is working to preserve the nature, plus some of the trails are steep and it would be heinous to make your dog venture up and down some of these more aggressive slopes. Nonetheless, I still saw two people bring their dogs out... some people simply have no regard for guidelines to protect the nature and not create an undue burden on your dog. Sigh. This is truly one of the best places in DFW if you are serious about hiking. There is a 500 feet elevation gain on the trail by the lake and this makes for great views and an easy way to get your heart rate up. There is ample parking and admission to the park is free. The only downside I would mention is the only restroom facilities are two port-o-potties and they were disgusting. One was out of toilet paper and there are no sinks to wash up. I don't know why people feel the need to make a bad situation worse by urinating all over the seat and trashing the facilities. Other than that, Eagle Mountain Park is a great choice for a semi-challenging hike site in DFW. The views are also a great reward for your efforts!

This is hands down the best Sober Living I have ever seen. The house itself is amazing. Large…read moreprivate rooms with huge TV's, queen beds with all new mattresses and high thread count linens. Only the best. That's how they do it at Elements. From the Breville espresso maker to the grand piano in the living room, or the putting green out back and egg smoker on the deck. And it's situated in the warm niche neighborhood of Lakewood, right in Swiss Avenue in the heart of Dallas. The area is like a small borough in NYC, where you can see the beautiful skyline as you walk to anywhere you need to go, like trendy and quality restaurants, spa treatments, haircuts, banks, even the gym which they provide memberships for clients. Location is important because it puts residents in close proximity to a ton of people in recovery, and different recovery meetings nearby. There are several A.A., NA, Dharma, and SMART recovery meetings nearby, and weekly they have an NA meeting and a Dharma recovery meeting at the house which are both excellent and well attended. But the really precious thing about Elements is the people. The residents are all highly motivated towards recovery and supportive of one another. The house manager is vigilant and committed to keeping residents on track. Drug testing weekly and breathalyzers every night. He also coordinates and participates in community service events like feeding the homeless. The Sober Coach is one of the best in the country. He is instrumental in reframing the situation as it applies to each individual and their long term recovery goals. He helps with relationships and communication with loved ones and advocates for the residents. He leads outreach ventures eg to maximum security prisons and includes residents in these outings. The Life Coach is one of the smartest people I've ever met. She helps residents with everything from the simple tasks of linking bank accounts where they need to go, to formalizing and updating their resumes and doing interview prep. And all of them are networked all over DFW and can get the resident in front of of exactly the right people to achieve their objectives. I've seen residents come through here and transform their lives for the better, improving their relationships, education, and career opportunities. It's a beautiful thing to see the positive transformation that occurs during a resident's time at Elements and working with the team. Highest rating. I could not endorse more emphatically. Five Stars. I sincerely appreciate this place, these people, and what they do.
