I came here again to get a manipedi a day before my wedding. My nails were trimmed uneven, my french gel manicure was longer on one side than the other as well. The white nail polish they used for my tips is not that dark and has been fading after a week. Gel manicures last me forever until they grow out. I never had discoloration for gel manis before. The nail polish chipped off on my pedicure a week after too and those usually last me a good month. I've done a couple french manis here and this by far has been my worst looking one here and it happens to be the one for my wedding! I guess they didn't care to spend extra detail or even give a me a decent looking manicure on my nails knowing that my wedding was the next day. Make appointments. I wanted to try a neighbor nail salon so I came to River hair and nail. There were no customers in the store with two workers. The first one asked what I needed and I replied manicure and pedicure, she told me to go to the other women. The second employee asked what I needed and I said manicure and pedicure. In there language they were arguing who to help me. From their tone it sounded like neither one wanted to work and trying to put me on the other. Okay, first time was okay. I should have learned my lesson- Second time--I will not return. I asked for fill & pedi. The girl who did my nails did a great job, but kept to herself. It was rushed with a few nicks on my cuticle which BLED. No hand massages or anything.As she was done, I then gave her a $10.00 bill to get change for tips. She abruptly took the ten and said "Thank You". I said , "No, I need my change". Then I was escorted to my pedi-chair, so I "assumed", I would get my change. It never got back to me. So I sat and let "Nikki", work on my toes-- which was outstanding!! She was very kind & detailed. Since a friend bought me the Spa package pedicure, Nikki said I had to pay extra for the French color. As I proceeded to pay afterwards, I gave her a $10.00 bill to pay for the extra white tips or $5.00 extra French tip. She of course, not realizing I was about to give her a 20.00 tip for her wonderful pedi; I noticed she held on to my bill and didn't want to give me my change I was so full of this service I walked out. I purchased a Groupon for a "Gel or Shellac Manicure" at this salon. I was hesitant after reading the reviews but I had a wonderful experience with them. I have never had a gel manicure but have wanted to and since my anniversary was coming up I thought this would be a great time. DeAnn who did my Manicure and I got along really well and I decided to add on a spa pedicure and some waxing and was pleased and happy with everything that I had that day. They were all nice and I didn't have any issues understanding them and they were all delightful. I will be returning and I am very happy with my nails they are beautiful and amazing. Came in a few days before my Groupon was to expire ($15 for 1 gel or shellac manicure). It was easy to walk in on a weeknight evening (close at 7pm). I called ahead for an appointment and Lona did my nails. I chose one of the OPI nailcolors, "My Address Is Hollywood" which was a rosy pink-coral color, square slightly rounded shape. I've gotten gel manicures done before with the tabletop lamps, but these stations were pretty neat to have the UV lights built in at the right level below the table surface for each hand. Hand massage was good, and I did leave a tip. I'm approaching the end of my third week after getting the manicure and they've grown out maybe 1/4" but I was able to paint over with a similar color to make it last longer. Like many, my friend and I got the Groupon for the gel or shellac manicure. When we went in, I asked for gel and my friend asked for shellac. She was told that they were the same thing (they aren't) and to pick from the disks of nail colors. When she settled on a taupe color, the manicurist told her it was an ugly color and to pick something bright and pretty like the color I picked (#8, which is a sparkly red). She settled on the taupe, which displeased the manicurist. We sat next to each other and her manicurist was very friendly and kept periodic conversation. Mine only said three words to me "file them even?" and then spent the rest of the time talking to other people, a kid who appeared to be her son, or on the phone. Most places give hand massages following a manicure, but this place kind of skimped on that process. Mine put oil on my cuticles and spread some lotion on my hands before getting up to talk on the phone. My friend's manicurist rubbed her hands and arms for about 3 minutes total. All in all, both of us walked out with pretty nails. My friend adored her color, though she ended up with gel instead of shellac. I also like my color a lot, but my nails weren't evenly filed, and the edges weren't rounded (super sharp nails), so I fixed that when I got home. Pros: lots of choices, clean salon, decent prices Cons: staff Edit: within 3 days my friend's nail polish had completely peeled off of 3 of her fingers. I called in about coming in at a certain time for a gel manicure. She said they'd be able to take me. Once I got there, I ended up waiting over half an hour while ppl who walked in without an appointment or calling in were taken before me. While I was there, the place was kinda packed and busy - yet one lady continued telling people over the phone that it was okay to come in right then. My manicure turned out mediocre. She was totally on it about taking care of my cuticles, but the nail polish didn't cover all of my nail toward the top of the cuticle while getting chunked towards the sides of my cuticles. She kept on running her nail over the sides of my nails (to keep the polish off my skin) but ended up taking a lot more nail polish off of my actual nail than I'd like. She also filed some of my nails unevenly - it's driving my crazy now because I had just finished evening them out prior to coming in. I would recommend going to another place for a gel manicure since I feel like $27 is a bit much for a mediocre manicure. If the price was a bit less for the quality, it wouldn't be the worst place to get some long-lasting color on your nails. read more

I have my new nail spot-River Salon! I came here once long, long ago and then didn't come back for some weird reason even though it is very close to me. On a whim I came back and got a mani-pedi from TN and had a wonderful experience. I made an appointment, which was important, I was told. I am glad I did because I just slid in even though it was a busy evening. I got a lovely mermaid blue gel on my fingers and a nude on my toes-TN helped me pick the colors and I have had loads of compliments on the choices. Have been taking my mother and I to this nail salon for the past 6 months to have our Bi-Weekly Mother/Daughter pamper days & we really enjoy them. They have some of the sweetest cosmetologists you'll meet. They make you feel like family and very comfortable. The salon is neat, nicely coordinated, very well ventilated and a television is always nice to watch while getting nails done. The latest music is always playing. They have a HUGE Gel/Shellac selection, which is all the craze right now and my fave. They have a nice collection of regular OPI or China Glaze nail polishes. They specialize in Hair, Nails, Waxing, Hair Coloring...the whole nine. I see lots of ppl come in with appts, so I began to make them as well. Ok Let me tell you about River City nails and specifically the person that I delt with Lona! So I was recommended and went to have my lashes done with her. On my third apt. with Lona after driving from Folsom in commute traffic aprox. 55min, I am told by Lona that a lot of my lashes that she put on had fell off after 3-weeks so she would need to charge me $50 for the fill instead of the $40 listed price for a fill. I explained to Lona to communicate that with me in the future "that the price will increase depending on how many falls off?" I was not pleased but there was nothing I could do at that point, so I decided the extra $10 would be her tip. So let me tell u how this professional woman handled it. When I called a month later to schedule an appointment, I was told by the lady who answered the phone at River City Nails that Lona had quit! So I called the person who had recommended me to her to inquire, and she assured me Lona was coming back. So I called River City Nails 3- weeks later and asked for Lona and they asked me my name I was told she was on vacation. When I asked when she would be back they stated they did not know and hung up upruptly. So here's where it gets interesting. I felt something was off so I decided to have someone else call and schedule and apt. with Lona and guess what? Lona answered the phone and schedule the apt. for the same day. So I call and I get the answering service, no worries. I call 40min later...answering service? I have the other person call right back, guess who answers? Lol....You're right LONA, What do you call this type of service? I can find a word for it but I think the Better Business Bureau would be more interested in what I'm thinking then you all. Moral to this post...When you have a business in America, you have to serve everyone! You can't discriminate when questioned about your on the spot increased price that is not posted. I've seen this salon numerous times as it is on my route between home and work. I have had my eyebrows done before, but decided to get my hair trimmed with it. The salon wasn't busy, but I noticed it was messy and unkempt. The station I sat in had hair and other debris on and around it. It was obvious the station was not cleaned for a while. When my hair was being trimmed, she didn't really section my hair out and seemed to just cut all around. I have noticed a week later that my hair is uneven. The total was $40+ for a trim and eyebrow wax. I did see the price menu, but still thought it was too pricey. Although I paid and gave a good tip, I won't be returning. After the mixed reviews I was skeptical but I still purchased a groupon for a Shellac and am so glad I did. I'd give this place 3.5 stars but since we can't do that why not round them up! Sure the girl who did my nails could have listened and shaped them the way I asked but its okay, they turned out alright. I got a shellac done and I was out of there in less than 30 minutes, little conversation and most of the time by the time I walk into a salon I want to zone out not have a conversation about my life. I came there to relax and make my hands look pretty and I was able to do just that. Surprisingly the shellac has lasted just a little over two weeks so I am impressed since I'm lucky if they make it 1.5 weeks. Michael barely spent time on my cuticles, and I had to ask if he even did one side bc it was so fast I thought he was just checking them. I was charged 26.00 after he showed me a menu that said 25.00. If you're looking for a good pedicure I would not suggest here. Had been going to River Nail and Hair Salon for several years. I loved the ladies there. There was no turnover, and you used to see the same people working each week. Three lovely ladies worked there, and they all got along so well, and I did not mind even switching from one person to another. Then they hired a man who frankly gave me a bad feeling, and they were trying to get customers to see him. Within a month's time, two of the three women were gone. I bought a GroupOn today for the Shellac Gel Nail and decided to give them a try. I live in the area and normally go to the nail salon across the street. I think the reason why they do such a poor job is because they are extremely busy! The lady turned down about 4 customers after me. It is a pedi/mani/salon where the three ladies alternate in between cutting hair and manicures. It's so busy that they can't really focus one customer without thinking about the next appointment. The lady was really nice to me and complemented me often (probably to get tipped), but she painted my nails so quickly that they ended looking horrible! I have nail polish over my cuticles and it looks gunky, as well as on the sides. Also the polish was not smoothly applied and having a smooth finish is the reason why I get the gel nail polish instead of regular. On top of that I didn't even get a hand massage, which is my favorite part of a manicure! I will definitely not be going there again. I would rather pay double across the street, get a nice long hand massage and attention to detail on the polish finish for beautifully looking nails, not quick and cheap! This place is great! I initially discovered River Salon through a Groupon deal - $15 for a Shellac Manicure. I went 1 time after this and paid regular price ($36 for Shellac manicure, removal of previous Shellac and including tip) then found another Groupon - $39 for 3 Shellac Manicures. I just used my 2nd of the series of 3 this past Saturday and also got a pedicure ($33 including tip and charge for removing my previous Shellac). I have been happy with the outcome each time. The ladies there are all very nice and do a great job; I've had my nails done by Kim and Nicki so far. The salon is clean as are their tools and processes. I will continue to go here after my discounted manicure sessions are over. Making an appointment is recommended, though I've noticed when I come in and mention my appointment I made, they don't check any lists to make sure. I've also noticed on more than one occasion that a couple customers who made appointments had to wait a few minutes up to 15-20 minutes, though this was not my experience any of the times I've come in. One final comment I have is that they charge for paying with a debit card, so if this bothers you, bring cash. My prices listed above also included the debit card charge (which I don't recall what it was). FYI - They also offer hair cut/color services. read more

I got my nails done last Thursday and I was a groupon customer for the Shellac manicure. I was a bit wary about using groupon because I thought they would do a bad job but it was totally worth it! They were very sweet and the girl that did my nails was fantastic! She was really precise and took care of my nails very nicely. She took her time and did the work slowly and perfectly. The products they used were clean and professional. I even scraped my nail and she fixed it for me without giving me attitude like others have in the past.
