I've enjoyed a nice beer at their small bar that feels like a whole in the wall, but recently I ordered out sushi and a cheesesteak - and where else could I get such a combo, but Drafthouse? The sushi was fresh and stacked--an excellent serving. I particularly liked my Spicy Storm: tempura salmon, jalapeno, cucumber with spicy crab and avocado, eel sauce, and wasabi sauce on top. Nice kick, cooled off by the crab and avocado. Great crunch, as well! The sleeper win was the cheesesteak. I went with chicken, which I rarely do. At first bite, I was a little confused, because the flavor isn't the Philly style I'm used to. I realized there were bits of bacon (says that on the menu-whoops), but it didn't over power the flavor, it add almost a sweet smokiness. And their beer cheese? SO GOOD. read more

This restaurant is such an interesting mix of sushi & burgers. It's not a common combination but it seems to work. We went on Monday of burger week- a day when they are usually closed. It was still hopping, so I guess others had the same idea we did. I ordered the River City burger- pepper jack cheese, tempura jalapeño, egg, & river city sauce. I think it was special for burger week and not normally on their menu, but it should be. It was delicious! Added fries to my order & they were hot, & crispy. Beer prices were a bit pricy- even a burger week special wasn't, IMO, a special. Their location on Bardstown means it's a pain the butt to find parking, but that's true of all bardstown businesses. RCD has a delicious ginger dressing (think Hibachi) and it recently occurred to me I can get fried rice and a salad and be happy with my favorite two hibachi dishes! After a fairly long wait for carry out order, I got home without the extra dressing I requested and the rice just wasn't as good as it normally is - almost tasteless and the chicken was tough. My husband did think the egg rolls were exceptional, but our boneless wings were way overcooked. We will try again because we love this local gem, but this trip was a disappointing. read more

This place is the secret I want to keep from others. Please don't crowd me out!! Where else can you get burgers, sandwiches, sushi and authentic noodes? I also love their crab rangoon, shrimp tempura and jalapeño bites...oh, and then there's the big wings!! This place is a true hidden gem. Wings, sushi, burgers, beer, board games? It's the American dream. Wings and sushi (spicy tuna, salmon avocado) were both incredible and so fairly priced I thought it had to have been a misprint. Staff were very friendly and service was fast. They have a very interesting menu that consists of sushi and burgers. Bartender was very nice and personable. I can't really say anything about the ambiance/vibe of the place as there were only two or three other people in the bar while we were there. My husband and I went to try River City drafthouse for a date night and it was the perfect, casual place to go. It is a small restaurant and feels homey and like the sort of place that has regulars. Our service was incredible and our server gave great recommendations. The prices were also so, so reasonable for such delicious food. The crab Rangoon was my favorite part of our meal. I'd even say Best crab Rangoon in town! I had the Philly cheesesteak with tater tots and they were tasty. My husband had two different sushi rolls and said they were just as good as any sushi place. It's always great to find a hidden gem in the city. And this is it. The outside is unassuming which is perfect. Inside, 10-15 tables and steady traffic of carry out. Didn't realize but they're happy hour is all day Sunday. We tried the tots with beer cheese and bacon (and side of ranch). Also had the spicy California roll. Which was amazing!! We all said we could come back and just order rolls and rolls if this. So simple but amazingly good. The tots were crispy and cooked perfectly. Definitely order again Then we tried a bunch of different flavors of wings. First, their wings are HUGE. Like what everyone was used to a couple years ago. We tried; mild, hot Buffalo, Korean bbq, Carolina gold rush. And lastly Gorilla Warfare. Note- the description they give is exactly that. Like gorilla say banana... yep. Ur tasting banana. Only thing is the Caribbean spices were a little over bearing... like putting too much cumin in something. And the heat just lingers forever. Our favorite hands down was Korean bbq. Sweet, spicy and perfect heat. Not a huge mustard fan but the Carolina was solid second. . The hot Buffalo are not your typical Buffalo. More a Korean spin. Not my fav but I was expecting more traditional. But that's my opinion. If I had to compare them locally... the first place that came to mind was Saints wings in St Matthews. Same size or bigger and prepared almost the same. I would stick with ranch. Their blue cheese was not blue cheese but whatever. We also got the shrimp fried rice to go. And yeah... it was the best we've had in the city. And that was without adding a bunch of soy sauce. As for drinks- no fountain drinks which is fine. It's all in cans. And only sell beer. But their draft beer menu is solid! Tried the Atrium Kolsch. New favorite beer!! We will definitely be back and probably stick to sushi and some the apps. This place is so unsuspecting and tucked away but the wings are truly the best ever. They're huge, high quality, and really fresh. They also have really great sauces, like the Korean BBQ is phenomenal with great spice and sweetness. Their sushi is also great and simple and fresh. This is an unassuming drafthouse and chances are you've walked by it many times without realizing what an awesome place it really is. (At least, that was the case for me until recently.) Not only do they have a wide selection of beers on tap (it is a drafthouse, after all), but they also have some of my favorite Asian food in the city. Whenever I'm craving noodles, I think of their Chicken Burmese Fried Noodles. Then, it's all I can think about until I'm sitting there sipping on a cold beer and scarfing said noodles down. The portion sizes are big and the prices are very reasonable. Since I love the Burmese Fried Noodles so much, it's really the only thing I ever get. So, I can't speak to the rest of the menu, but I wouldn't be surprised to learn it's all delicious. It's easy to miss this place since the signage is kinda dark. When I walked in with my sister, it wasn't busy yet. The space is small. It's got a bar with all your favorite Kentucky beers and lots of TVs. They were showing a movie on the Syfy channel. Once our friends came in, we shared fried pickles and beer cheese. The beer cheese had a slight kick to it. And I enjoyed the crunch of the breaded pickles. I got the regular burger, which was pretty standard. It was kinda bland. My friend got a house salad and the Buffalo sub. She enjoyed all of it and was stuffed! The rest of the crew got fish and chips, chicken tenders, and boneless wings. I think everyone thought their food was decent. They are known for their wings, so I would be open to trying those next time. As mentioned, the space is small. I can imagine it getting busy on a weekend. More people came in as we sat. I saw families and groups of friends. It's a nice place to just hang! read more

It has taken us 4 visits before I have reviewed. This is a great local owned restaurant. Small but decent selection of local draft beers and a diverse menu. The menu has American and Asian appetizers and main course. Something for everyone. The service is prompt and attentive. Very clean, nice and quiet place. They have a few tables on the sidewalk. We have tried the Bavarian Pretzel which is large enough for 4 people. It came to the table hot and fresh. Pay extra for the beer cheese, it is worth it. We can''t get enough of the Burmese Fried Noodles with shrimp. You can get it mild or as hot as you like it. Nice size order and this is our favorite Asian noodle dish in Louisville! We have tried the wings with the River City Sauce and they were delicious. Hot and lots of flavor, good size wings, and juicy. The seaweed salad is a must to eat with some of the best sushi rolls in town. Our go to rolls are the S-10 Louisville roll and Spicy Tuna roll. Plus they have a Happy Hour daily from 4 pm to 6:30 pm. Many good deals on food and all draft beers $1.00 off. You can't go wrong with this locally family ran/owned restaurant. We have not had an issue parking on the street. The parking is metered and it pays to download the Go502 app to pay the meter, especially on Bardstown road area. Enjoy! read more

I went for the first time yesterday. The food was done when they said. They were standing right by the front doors watching who pulled up. When we called we were not on a long wait. They took care of us then and there. I had the Derby Roll and fried rice. Let's talk about amazing. I didn't know what to expect from them and sushi. I am very picky with my sushi but thought I'd give a try from some other reviews I saw. Boy was this a winner!! The Derby Roll was fresh and the vegetables in it were still crispy. Nothing was soggy and so much flavor. The rice was still hot when I got back home from being about 20 minutes away. They put the food insider a styrofoam box and the food was wrapped in aluminum foil. That was great for longer commutes and keeping the food how. This was a really great experience for it being curbside at an unknown place to me. They were on top of it, fast, and efficient. All of our food was right too which is very important. read more

Holy yum! My husband and I came here around 2:00 on a Saturday for a late lunch. This place has been on my list for a while so I was excited to finally try it. There was no one else dining when we arrived which surprised me. We were seated immediately but we had to wait a decent amount of time before our orders were taken; it looked like there was only 1 waiter, though, so I understand. They have a bunch of beers on tap so I tried a Ciderboys Grand Mimosa and it was absolutely delicious. We started with the crab rangoons which were really good if standard. I chose the Unagi Roll & the Yum Yum Roll. I was shocked at how delicious that sushi was - these people know what they're doing! I had leftovers, too! My husband had the Gorilla Warfare & Spicy BBQ wings with fries and he devoured them. The fries were really good, too! We'll definitely be back. read more

This was my first time back here in a few years. Since my last visit, there's been a change in ownership. Unfortunately there was an issue with the cooler the night I went, so the taps were all out. Thankfully they have a decent selection of cans, varying from Sapporo to West Sixth. The sushi was legit! Good portions and fair prices. Service was friendly. After sending the kids off with my parents at 5p, my husband and I ventured out early for beers and dinner. River City Drafthouse was down the road and had opened at 4p. I'd read several reviews about their wings and was intrigued. After getting there I was surprised to find they have an extensive menu that includes appetizers, salads, burgers and wings. Per our server they are shifting ownership and our visit coincided with the shift in the kitchen. For its size the place also packs in plenty of seating with booths, high tops and the bar. Select appetizers are offered for $3, $4 and $5 during happy hour(s). No drink specials but you can pick the size of your pour. We got the beer cheese with pita and fried pickles with ranch. Fried pickles were great for the price but the beer cheese was INSANELY hot. It's supposed to have a kick but was apparently mixed with too much pepper spice. We munched on the pita but all the cheese went to waste. The kitchen did come out to apologize but didn't make any adjustments. We got 12 wings and were able to pick two sauces. I selected mild buffalo with blue cheese and my husband got the dry rub with a variety of sauces to try. The wings are delicious and have a lot of meat on the bone. But, I should've asked for a side of sauce because I couldn't even taste the mild buffalo. The blue cheese is a basic thin dressing, no good chunks in it. I think we should have had celery but come to think of it, we didn't receive any. My husband also got an order of onion rings and they were nice and crispy. This wouldn't be a Drafthouse without a nice selection of beers. You'll get this here. We loved the brown ale recommended to us by our server and if you need a taste to confirm it's what you want, they will do this for you. For parking, meters are on Bardstown Rd and you must pay on weekdays until 4p or Saturday until 6p. Street parking is available in the neighborhood too. read more

River City Drafthouse is yet another cool place to grab some brews, apps and to relax. They also have trivia nights! We had just finished a workout and were looking for somewhere nearby to fill up the hole of calories that we had just burned. This place has been on my list for a while, so why not? It's very small but cozy. They had a couple TVs playing some movies, and even a small corner with some board games to play. On their screen in the back were a list of the beers they offer, and we saw some unique finds that we had not seen anywhere else. We tried the Cider Boys Grand Mimosa beer, and it was sooo tasty! For food, I tried the Kentucky style fries and the bourbon bacon wings. Holy crap, both were amazing..I had like one random wing that was undercooked and cold, but no sweat, the rest were fantastic. The service was pretty slow, but we had a very friendly server to give us good recommendations. He looked and sounded just like Jack Black and it made me smile. read more

The yelped food photos looked great and we were looking to eat before hitting the brewery next door. Walking in, it looks like a dive which is a good sign for us. We sat at the bar and our server was attentive even though he was also taking care of the other tables.  The craft beer selection was plentiful and diverse. We ordered the jalapeño popper and crab Rangoon apps. The poppers.... Mehhh. The crab Rangoon though, AmaZiNg!! So light and crispy. Not oily. And the filling is creamy and full of crab. Excellent!! For an entree we got the Kentucky cheesesteak with fries and Chicken wings, hot, extra crispy. Both were good. We asked for the wings extra crispy and they were descent in texture. Would definitely suggest adding that to your order. The highlight was the crab Rangoon. They had other Asian dishes. If going back, would consider trying more of that. It seems to be thief specialty. There are some great things and some not so great things about River City. ****Please note that reviews from a year ago should be disregarded, as this bar was recently sold and is under new management now.**** Let's start with the positives: Great food options! I usually get the wings or sushi. Neither have ever disappointed me! Great prices! The wings are 12 for $12, and they're HUGE. Sushi is super affordable, too! Beer! They have tons of options for craft beers on draft. Negatives: Only one server. This guy works as the bartender and the waiter and the food runner and sometimes (from what I've seen) the food preparer. Wait time. Because there is only one server no matter the time or day or how busy or slow they are, your wait time can sometimes take a while. If you've got time to kill, then I definitely wouldn't let this deter you. Bathroom cleanliness. The bathroom is less than stellar. It's usually pretty grimey. read more

RiverCity Draft House is a neighborhood bar that stands out amongst the others based on their beer selection alone.  But the service is wonderful - the staff members are funny, accommodating, and kind. I'm not the beer connoisseur like most of the customers - from my 'not so great - not wide variety of interest beer preference' description, the server suggested an OddSide Ale - Prickly Pear Cactus Fruitsicle. He let me try if first which was an awesome added touch; it was super good so I ordered a 10 oz.  My boyfriend ordered a Unitas Rise & Pine and enjoyed it.   I highly recommend checking out RiverCity Draft House if not for the amazing beer spread, for the superb service, and the special event - keep the glass day! read more

I'm generally partial to the breweries along Bardstown Road, but there are two bars that I have a hard time resisting. One is Outlook Inn, on the other side of the Highlands; the other is River City Drafthouse here. Both have a tremendous amount of character and are easy to sink into. At River City, you get the bonus of excellent food. To be clear, this wasn't always a sleeper choice for Japanese and Burmese cuisine. This used to be more of a traditional sports bar, and I've received plenty of nonplussed looks while eating sushi at one of their outside tables. But you really owe it to yourself to dine here: the sushi punches far above its weight for the price, and the American menu is very affordable as well. Plus, their happy hour deals are ace! As far as booze is concerned, they have quite a few taps and maintain an ideal variety between local joints and far-flung breweries. Gallant Fox and Atrium are staples here; so are Avery, Schlafly and Golden Road, among many others. It's a great selection, and River City Drafthouse nails something special: it's a jack-of-all-trades joint that nonetheless has a distinct identity. read more

Amazing. We were searching for a place that offered burgers and sushi to satiate our eight year old (burger) and six year old (sushi). Never thought a place like that would exist. Well, we happened upon this place. Food was awesome. It's run by a family: son waited on us and was super sweet and accommodating. So do many other places along Bardstown Road you say so what makes this place unique? Not only does River City Drafthouse offer standard pub food such as burgers, wings, fish and chips but also an adventurous Asian menu: sushi, dumplings, eggrolls, Burmese fried noodles, and build your own Asian combo. My crew started with the dumplings $5 - 6 fried dumplings served in paper tray with side dipping sauce. I believe these were pan fried and a little greasy but not excessively so. Next up we ordered the Burmese Fried Noodles $8- a combination of flat noodles, vegetables, and chicken (can order other protein or veg); Teriyaki Chicken Combo $13 - comes with salad with ginger dressing or miso soup, and Veg Fried Rice $5.95. The food was as good as you would find at any low to medium priced Asian restaurant, the portion sizes were good, and the service was efficient and friendly. While this may not be a destination restaurant, if you find yourself on Bardstown Road and thinking a cold draft and pub or Asian food sounds good, stop in at River City Drafthouse and give it a try. read more

I walked by with my dog and saw the owner or manager outside. He was trying to locate a spider to make sure it was 1. Out of the restaurant & 2. Back in it's more natural habitat. You can show how much they care about their patrons with this small anecdote. Because not only did he ensure it was not bothering patrons, but he took care of its life. It reminded me of the saying "I hope no one ever kills me for the crime of being too small." If he is extending this kindness to such small creatures, I imagine that kindness is something he is affluent in, which positively reflects the establishment. Additional points for cleanliness and not smashing the poor thing! The food smelled nice, the ambience seemed cozy. I would definitely give this place my business. read more

I am old enough to remember when this place used to be Twice Told Coffee and bookstore. I had no clue this was even here until I kept seeing it on my Door Dash. I walked into the small dining area and there were three other patrons but no one that seemed to be working. I stood there for what felt like forever (it might've been two minutes) before I was greeted by the waiter/bartender. I am told to sit wherever so I do. I scan the menu QR code and see it's happy hour until 6:30 everyday! Sign me up! The happy hour food menu is limited but the beers are all a dollar off! I order maybe five minutes after entering (there was a to go order and a door dash order that I had to wait until they were finished) and the food came in twenty (it felt like forever). I'm assuming it's made fresh and to order which I don't mind. I got the crab Rangoon, the spicy California roll, the volcano roll and the Kentucky Maple Barrel Stout. The food is very tasty and the portions are nice. Also not disappointed with their beer selection. 10/10 I want to come again and bring my friends. read more
