The owner is reliable, professional and a dedicated member of the aviation community. We are lucky she picked Ellenvile to setup shop. Based at Joseph Y Resnick airport in Ellenville, the location couldn't be more perfect. Resnick Airport is easy to fly in and out of and within a reasonable drive from most anywhere around Ulster county. The airport is usually quiet and is ideal for practice laps around the pattern. The surfaces are well kept and it's easy to get to the many other nearby airports for tower and cross country practice. If you haven't flown before or are new to aviation I would encourage you to take an introductory lesson. You can even go up with family or friends on scenic rides and sight seeing around the Hudson Valley. Intro lessons make great gifts and gift certificates are available too! Kate has been my flight instructor for the last 6 months and I am close to getting my Private Pilots License. I feel that I am learning more than the bare minimum and am gaining the knowledge and confidence to be a safe, proficient, and professional pilot. Immediately after I reached out to Maura, she got back to me and set up a meeting with the school's director and owner, Chris. We went over how the school works and the general process and then Chris set me up with my instructor, Rick Inzerillo, who did a fantastic job teaching me to fly. He's a former airline pilot who's enthusiastic and knowledgeable not only about aviation, but teaching aviation as well. I could not be happier with my experience with him and I highly recommend asking for him as your instructor. Rick, if you read this, thank you! The atmosphere was friendly and other instructors went out of their way to answer any questions I had if Rick wasn't there (Special thanks to Brad, Zach and Chris). The planes were all well maintained and if anything went wrong, quick to be fixed and put back on the flight line. The club has two aircraft, a Cessna Skyhawk, 172P and a Cessna Cardinal, 177RG. Both have an excellent suite of avionics featuring a Garmin 430 which makes moving from one aircraft to the next a cinch. This club emphasizes pilot training, as a matter of fact it is part of the club's mission statement. Both zero time pilots and pilots with an ATP are encouraged to always be learning. Upper Fifteen offers the best path to learning to fly, in terms of cost and continuity with your choice of an instructor who will be with you from first flight, to solo to earning your private pilot certificate. Sometimes flight instructors elsewhere are building flight hours so they can move on to a commercial pilot job, leaving their students looking for a new instructor. The club has monthly meetings the first Wednesday of the month where all interested persons are welcome to attend the meeting. The club also has occasional open houses and aviation seminars.

I was thrilled that the instructor let me take the controls and (obviously) guide me to what needed to be done. The winds were gusty so the take off and landing gave a little extra gulp in my stomach, but I had a blast. Went up to about 2500 feet (maybe a bit more) and did a big circle. Had a blast. Flight instruction isn't cheap but I applaud them for the ease of scheduling and getting me up in the air so quickly. Top notch!

Since it was his first time ever in a plane, the pilot extended the time out a little and he was up there for close to an hour. He got to control the plane a few times and brought it up many times over the years. If you sign up for more lessons, the $50 goes towards the cost of the remainder of the lessons and you can get your pilot's license. Very cool.

He stated, "there isn't enough material." There is one instructor who mumbles the entire time. He just reads off of a manual and then plays videos. He allows people to just talk for about 20 minutes in between each video. I asked if he could keep the chats down, and he didn't. Waste of time. If I wasn't in NY for a job and needed this class, I would not come here.
