I was told that wound care was taking care of it in mid January only to find my father being rushed to the hospital on Feb 1st with malnutrition, dehydration, septic shock and upon evaluation at hospital was diagnosed with gangrene in 3 different places a few sores ready to burst and contusions in several places. Hence my father died from gangrene and the bacteria had traveled throughout his bloodstream and taken over all organs leaving my father in pain and to suffer for 8 days until he passed from the flesh eating bacteria. Please if your loved one cannot talk to you and tell you what is going on, please keep them at home safe where they can be monitored with security cameras. As most nursing homes don't have them as I found out .

I knew two other families who had family members there previously and we liked the smaller, more homelike setting with private rooms and a maximum of ten residents. Our mother received the kind of loving care we wanted for her and every staff member treated her sweetly and gently. We visited daily at different times and the home was ALWAYS clean and well kept. I grew attached to both the girls caring for mom and the other residents. When Mom went on hospice the director, Nu, worked well with the scheduling and medication management. Nu seemed to be available to her staff at all hours for questions and decisions. The owner, Sindhu, is very nice and caring as well. I have nothing bad to say about Sedro. When Mom passed away, they were with us every step of the way. Mom was cared for and kept safe and we will be forever grateful that homes like this help families like us when it all becomes more than we can do by ourselves.

While there are a couple of very caring employees, they do not (and cannot) provide the majority of the care in a 24/7 environment. Most employees here are inexperienced and the turnover rate is high (even observed within the brief time that I visited). High turnover rates are almost always due to unfair treatment from business owners and it's not a stretch to then imagine how the residents are treated. If you want your loved one to get quality attention and care, look for a facility that is classified as a "skilled nursing" facility; they must meet higher educational and qualification standards than an "assisted living" facility. Also, if you decide this is the place for your loved one and you come to an agreement with the owner about anything, get it in writing. Although she admitted she made an agreement, she said she wasn't going to honor it and didn't 'have to' because she didn't sign anything. That behavior wouldn't be surprising from some business owners, but it's particularly appalling in this line of work. Resources abound on the Internet; I wish I had had more time to research this properly. There are numerous lists on the web of questions to ask when researching living facilities; to them, I'd add: 1) ask questions about the staff, i.e. their education, certification, professional experience, longevity with the facility, etc. - these are the people who will engage with your loved one on a daily basis, so you'll want to know how they are qualified 2) visit unannounced and ask for a tour and 3) look for a visitor and ask them what they like/dislike about the care their loved one is getting.

His room, original bed was broken, ceiling was caving, peeled paint on walls, AC duct had blue painters tape all across it. His prescription of pain meds was supposed to be administered every 4 hrs with food. They did not feed him & did not know he hadn't been fed - and he had to call for meds every time. We were told they didn't have the capability of scheduled meds. What? NO supervision was given for him getting out of bed. NO shower in room. NO Physical therapy. Equipment ( Blood pressure & Pulse) did not work, he had to take it for them on his watch. The "staff" other than front desk and head nurse spoke very little English. We got him out of there as soon as possible. NOT a safe place.

Not all communities are set up where your loved ones can enjoy outdoors when they want to. The Facility Manager was very helpful in helping set up my fathers room as well as hanging pictures. Since my father was an engineer, the Facilities Manager took the time to have many great conversations with my father. It is great that Aria is dedicated to Memory Care. They know how to take care of all levels. The separation of cognitive and non cognitive guests is priceless. My father was able to have conversations with other guests with similar challenges. Having a loved one in a home is all ways difficult but when you arrive at Aria you really do not feel you are in a nursing home. It helped me when I was visiting my father. Last but not least the Executive Director Ceri Mackenzie is there for you and your loved ones 24 hours. I have seen this first hand. She was there for helping me manage my fathers needs. Her experience and knowledge comes in handy as anything can happen any time when you are taking care of our elders. The team reacts positively to Ceri's experience and enthusiasm. To sum it up, Aria is a gem in senior community. It offers clean, safe, easy to navigate common area floor plan, spacious individual units and a lovely courtyard to enhance for my father's daily experience. Mostly importantly, the team members are friendly, caring and do not hesitate to come to aide whenever the unexpected need rises. My father actually thrived and showed improvement in matter of weeks under their care. . I have had other family members in Brookdale, Sunrise and, and Emeritus. I really liked seeing their meal plan for the week...every day they had breakfast, lunch, dinner and even snacks listed. It was a great variation week to week and I never saw a skimpy meal. Honestly, it was nice to get ideas for my own household too. Amber, Vanessa, Paul, David and Dee Dee were so attentive, caring and loving towards my sweet grandmother. Fairway will always be an endearing memory that honored my grandmother in her final days.
