If I could give zero stars, I would. I live in the area, and this Rite Aid is consistently disappointing. The staff are rude and clearly don't want to be there--they act annoyed when you ask for help and often ignore customers while standing around on their phones. Even worse, I don't feel safe shopping here. There's little to no security, and I've had uncomfortable run-ins with creepy men hanging around inside and outside the store. It's unsettling, especially when I'm alone. For a neighborhood pharmacy, that's completely unacceptable. The store is also poorly stocked. They're constantly out of basic items, and the selection is way worse than other Rite Aid locations. Even the ice cream--something Rite Aid used to be known for--is a letdown. The brand they carry now is grainy, has a weird texture, and literally feels like sand in your mouth. It's gross. This place needs a complete overhaul--better staff, better safety, and better products. Until then, I'll be going anywhere else. read more

The store itself is large and clean, but the customer service has gone so far downhill that unless I can do self-checkout, it's not worth the effort to make a purchase. Last weekend we stopped by for some ice cream - we were told to pay first at the cashier (no in like, great). But it was a confusing and difficult 10 minutes of ringing us up, blatantly overcharging us each time. We asked for 2 double scoops. First we were charged for 6 scoops of ice cream. No, just want 2 double scoops and when pointing that out, the cashier rolled their eyes, acted put out. Then she charged us for 2 single scoops and one double scoop (which is $2 more than just 2 double scoops), and then and again the cashier acted like it wasn't a big deal and we should just pay. 10 minutes later we walk over to the ice cream counter, only to find out that they don't have regular cones, only sugar cones, and that will have to be an extra charge. Cashier calls the manager over because she doesn't know how much the cones are - neither does the manager. So they suggest charging another $2.00 for a sugar cone since no price is on the board. But now since there's no button on the cashier for the cone, it's now another long wait until they can figure out how to woefully overcharge for a sugar cone. The whole process was so frustrating that I decided not to even get my portion of the ice cream. What should have been a quick and fun treat turned into an aggravating mess. read more

This Rite Aid is in the Montclair District. It's not only nearby me, but they share a parking lot with the Lucky's. The Rite Aid is a pretty good size for a pharmacy, no offense to the CVS down the street but this space is much larger, which includes a Thrifty's Ice Cream Counter, frozen section, beauty section, food/candy section, wine/liquor section and first aid, over the counter meds and vitamins. I've used their pharmacy a couple times just by walk-up and their staff were helpful and responsive. I've had uneventful visits at this Rite Aid, which says a lot. read more

I would give this zero stars if possible. My friend and I were browsing the card section of this Rite Aid. We has been in there for only 5 minutes when an employee stormed up to us and declared "You have two minutes to get to the front with something." My friend and I were enjoying browsing through the cards and we were so shocked and unnerved that we decided to just leave. I stay in the area and find this a ma disappointment. I used to shop at this store frequently, but now steer clear. This place has creepy vibes. People keep stalking me up and down the aisles, and there is no security whatsoever. Virtually no basic products in stock. I went today and they have empty shelves. I ended up leaving and going across the street to CVS which had everything. The clerks at Rite Aide said everything is being stolen? Maybe some stuff yes but this looks like a bankrupt business that can't get suppliers. If you look online many Rite Aids around the state and elsewhere have the same rows of empty shelves problems. The company filed Chapter 11 last year and there are many articles about the results of this in the stores. You would may want to seek nail polish and toothpaste elsewhere. lol. Specific to the pharmacy: This pharmacy used to be fantastic. They were fast, efficient, friendly, and well stocked. For the last year they are consistently out of stock on medications that have refills - so they KNOW we will be re-ordering. *Every member* of my 4 person family has been affected by an important medication being *out of stock for a week or two* after requesting a refill on a medication that we NEED. **This is dangerous and irresponsible.** The stress and frustration we experience on a regular basis is extreme. I try not to take it out on people but how can they be so bad at stocking inventory for items that are a guaranteed refill??? This inventory problem has carried over into cold and sinus medications as well. Weeks and weeks with nothing in this category. I cannot justify using a pharmacy that puts our health at risk... Rite Aid will likely be using our business and that will carryover into the regular shopping I would normally do in the rest of the store; it wasn't trivial. This pharmacy needs corporate to step in and figure out what has caused such a horrible decline. read more

This is for the Pharmacy: I take a prescription drug that is not allowed on my insurance's formulary. Rather than begging for an exception, the folks at my doctor's office suggested I use a coupon from Good Rx at Rite Aid. The prescription was sent. I received a call when it was ready. The coupon was graciously accepted. A 90-day supply of the prescription ended up costing $66.33 which was even less than the Good Rx quote. The last time I paid for the same prescription elsewhere through my insurance, I paid $190. Not only that, but since I was paying on my own, I didn't have to wait an extra three days until my insurance allowed me to make the purchase. The pharmacist didn't look down on me for having a coupon, but rather was as helpful as can be. I would recommend that anyone paying a high price for a drug take a look at Good Rx to compare and give the Montclair Rite Aid a try. read more

Went this morning to buy some stuff but the shelf was empty. A young woman happened to walk out of the back next to me. I asked her if there were any more of the item on t shelf. She said she works in the pharmacy and I should go to the front and ask there. This isn't the first time I've been there and asked for help only to be told to go talk to someone else. Good customer service means if someone asks for help you don't send them somewhere else. (After I went to the front, the cashier there needed to call someone else to find out). This is the largest and probably nicest Rite Aid you will ever walk into. They have everything in there and for some odd reason there is a huge makeup section. There is also a decent size toy section for those of you with little ones. Lots of coolers in the back stacked with drinks, and there is even an ice cream counter with your choice of cups or cones! I have been a customer of this Rite Aid pharmacy for 12 years now, literally filling hundreds of prescriptions over the years, for myself (hypertension), my mother (Alzheimer's), my father (Parkinson's) and my partner (HIV), so I have a big data pool to draw upon. I had an epiphany the other night when I went to pick up a prescription that had been called in the day before (not that day, but the day before) and was told as I am told every single time I go to pick up a prescription 'It's not ready' which is typically followed by 'come back in 30 minutes' but since it was 8:50pm, was followed by 'come back tomorrow.' To say I was annoyed was an understatement. I felt the same negative emotions that I always feel when I go to this Rite Aid, feelings that quite frankly could have triggered this crappy review of their service at any time over the last 12 years. 'It's not ready come back in 30 minutes' should be their marketing tag line, except that probably wouldn't gain them many customers. But at least it would be honest. Because as I mentioned, not once in 12 years have they had a prescription ready for me when I went in to pick it up. Hundreds of prescriptions. Not once. If you're a Rite Aid customer and you are reading this and no doubt nodding your head in obvious agreement, you know what I'm talking about. It's annoying. It's not customer focused. It's unprofessional. So why then do we put up with it? Well, for one, they are the only pharmacy for miles in any direction (if you don't count the dark, unwelcoming CVS across the street that I'm pretty sure has a poltergeist so no one ever goes there). No, this Rite Aid is the only game in town for all of the aging denizens of the 94611 postal code. It's either put up with their lousy service or drive to Berkeley to get your prescriptions filled, which isn't that far really, but seems outrageous for some reason. That reason is there should be a competently run pharmacy operating in the village given the number of people who rely upon getting life saving medications in our neighborhood everyday. 'Incompetent' seems harsh. They probably have more customers than they can service. A high class problem to have as they say. But it's still a problem, one easily solved by adding more staff. Which would be a problem I guess because the pharmacy is wedged into a shoe box space in a store with SO MUCH square footage and filled with SO MUCH useless merchandise (when have you gone to Rite Aid looking for Brittany Spears new perfume is all I have to say about that). Maybe they could expand the pharmacy so you could add staff and provide the kind of customer service you would get in any developed nation, rather than the Bosnia-Hertzegovina level of service they provide now. Of course that won't happen until there is a financial imperative to do something. So I propose we give them one. The next time you are told 'not ready yet, come back in 30 minutes' make a commitment, as I have today, to never fill another prescription there again. If enough of you read this and act on my suggestion, we could see change within a year. Maybe Rite Aid will focus on their pharmacy and improving their crappy service. Maybe corporate will close the location altogether. Maybe a new Walgreens replaces the closed Rite Aid or a professionally run neighborhood pharmacy will open with nary a drop of perfume in the place. Just pills and efficient, competent service. It's a classic fairy tale! Once upon a time, evil pharmacy provides crap service to the kingdom. Charming but slightly bitchy customer/Prince writes about it on social media. Post goes viral throughout the kingdom. Citizens of the kingdom stop patronizing evil fire breathing Pharmacy. It becomes uncompetitive, and is closed by evil pharmacy's parent company. Friendly but incompetent pharmacy staff couldn't process my paperwork for a flu shot and concluded my insurance has my DOB wrong in their system. I wasted about 40 minutes here while they called my insurance, asked me again for my DOB, and called insurance again. I finally just paid $40 for it and said I'd deal with insurance later. I called insurance when I got home. They verified they have my correct DOB and after 20 minutes on the phone with them, with a hold for them to call the pharmacy, they conclude the pharmacy had my DOB wrong. Other aspects of paperwork from Rite Aid, like my address, are wrong. They also had initially put my last name as my middle name, which I didn't even write on the form but was on my insurance card. This pharmacy deserves a zero. It has been a disaster for the past year. They don't answer their phone, I left 3 messages in the past 48 hours. I paid for 2 medicines last week and asked that they be delivered. They confirmed it by text. But nothing was delivered. I received a text that another medicine was paid for and ready yesterday but when I got there today, it was not ready. They never apologize, whoever is at the desk always says, "We're really busy, come back in 2 hours." Run, don't walk - AWAY from this horrible drug store. I thought they were actually getting better, but I will never walk in that door again. I called the pharmacy at 10:00am to find out what time realistically I should arrive for their drop in booster appointments. The pharmacist was so rude I should have hung up on him. He told me I should be there at 12:00 noon for a 2:00-3:00 window of time for drop in booster shots. I walked in at 12:00 noon and was #10 in line, except for the people who were place holding for friends. I stood for 2 hours - he came out at 2:00 and said - "too bad - we only have 10 doses, you are out of luck. Could he have told us at 1:00, instead of 2:00? Yes, of course he could! Oh, and did I mention that I have tried 15 times to get in on the walk in appointments? The same thing happens every time. There were probably 15 people behind me in line, many of them elderly. He did not have one ounce of empathy - or sympathy in his voice. He was horrible. The whole store is horrible, they have no stock and no-one to ask for help. Worst customer service of any pharmacy in Oakland. Last month had to wait an hour for a prescription after surgery, after calling two hours in advance and being assured it was ready. Today I went in at 4 PM to get a prescription and said I would wait. The pharmacist said no way because they close in two hours I have to come back tomorrow. It's a pharmacist and a tech on a slow day. He acted as if I was putting him out even ask to wait for pain meds for my injured pup. So I walked across the street to CVS... One tech. One pharmacist. Doc called in a BASIC antibiotic to Rite Aid. Rite Aid didn't have it (how is that possible) and didn't bother to call or text to let me know. I only found out cause I stopped by...because they weren't answering their phones. Then, when I tried to transfer the script to CVS who had the medication, rite aid just...never answered their phone. I had to PHYSICALLY walk BACK into rite aid and ask them to call cvs to transfer my prescription. Unbelievable. read more

I have been a Montclair customer and resident for many years. There is little I can offer that is positive, about the Pharmacy (not the overall store), but I'll try to be constructive. I think check-out is efficient, self-checkout is useful, and the cashiers try to be friendly, prompt, and helpful, but they have no meaningful way to influence the unresponsiveness of their pharmacy colleagues. And the critical nature of prescriptions versus discretionary shopping for retail products suggests that service success - is effective at the wrong end of the "food chain". Perhaps I need to clarify why I still use the store. Location and insurance make other options unattractive - yes, it's a bit of a hostage relationship unfortunately. Specific pharmacy dysfunction includes (1) routine vaccine appointments that, despite being on file for decades (yes, decades) run into frequent insurance delays - on insurance that hasn't changed (!) - because they enter my name incorrectly, or back to front (2) waiting 40+ minutes for a scheduled appointment and patiently watching pharmacists and technicians skillfully evade eye contact, to avoid status updates (3) a flawed online system that unevenly permits - or prevents - an option to mitigate pharmacy delays by having prescriptions home-delivered (4) having to follow up with the pharmacy - not the other way around - on missed fulfilment of timely-requested refills - with astonishingly vague responses, (thoughtfully?) worded to be...meaningless and un-actionable..."we will get back to you" (when informed that they didn't, so now the refill is overdue), "we are working on it" (when asked for a specific date). read more

II've refilled my prescription for Adderall at this rite aid at least 4 or 5 times. Every time it's a hassle because they forget to use the DAW 9 code to process it because my insurance only covers the brand name not the generic. So the code should be DAW 9 when processed at the pharmacy because it's "9=Other/Substitution Allowed- Plan Requests Brand Dispensed" to prevent an insane co-pay of 169.00 when DAW 1 is used. Today was the first time the pharmacist refused to use the correct code to prevent the absurd co-pay cost or Even so much as work with me on figuring it out and frankly, he couldn't have been more rude or annoyed about it. He shook his head has he heard me tell the pharmacy tech/cashier about the code issue when I heard the bill. When she turned to him to inquire he kept shaking his head no and with the mask I couldn't make out what he was saying. It took a bit of back and forth of me calmly saying "yea this always happens and this is how you've fixed it before...." The poor tech trying to figure out what to do till he finally came over without addressing me ...hit the screen - few times while shaking his head and then Shaking his head some more as I was calmly explained how every time I pick it up at THIS rite aid I have to go through this process.. (note: the one in Florence, OR processed it without me even having to prompt them and I managed to walk out with my covered prescription without feeling an ounce of shame or anger )... When he finally glanced up from the screen at me he mumbled an excuse about an audit and doubled down on being a complete asshole without cause. He made me feel oddly ashamed that I was even asking them to do what they've done before. I know a lot of pharmacists have their own opinions about medications like adderall and it felt like it was an act of bias on his part. If he is uncomfortable filling adderall presiptions and the extra scrutiny that may get from an inspector then he should find a new career. He was irritated and rude from the jump. If it wasn't bias or judgement then it was profoundly unprofessional and uncalled for. I get it people have shit days - in fact I was just coming from a long day at my job with a raging migraine, tired to the bone. I felt like that all day but I also work with patients all day who would never know that was the day I was having because that's the Gigi Maybe I should have kept my blazer on from work at the clinic instead of swapping it out for my leather jacket... maybe he judged me has a pill seeker looking to get a deal on my adderrall script and NOT a patient that's been legitimately prescribed the medication for my ADHD- takes it as directed - has a prior auth and insurance coverage that advised her to instruct the pharmacy to use the DAW 9 code. The super nice woman (who I am always happy to see and never make sure to clock her name on her tag..‍‍) at the pharmacy register was awkwardly put between us because he refused to actually talk to me like the person, patient and customer I was. I was never rude back just calmly explained how it's always handled but was dismissed. I didn't get his name hence why I'm typing this up and not reporting directly to customer service but I'll be using another pharmacy going forward... since I'm out 169 dollars for the month when every time I've picked it up it was less than 20. Btw - the pharmacy tech/assistant needs a raise for dealing with him and being as consistently kind and delightful as she is. read more

After 2 weeks I am still unable to get my refill. The services is slow and incompetent. I am ready to transfer my meds somewhere else. I scheduled a booster shot for yesterday, February 15, 2022 at 6pm. When I got there, I was handed a form to fill out before I got my shot. As I was filling the form out, the woman who handed me the form informed me that they didn't have Moderna shots that day. I was really disappointed that I did not receive a call so I wouldn't have wasted my time. I wasn't even offered any other options to reschedule. She just told me they were out and that was it. I have never had such a horrible experience anywhere, much less a Right Aid. I called the Orinda store and they were able to squeeze me in. Such a different experience! They were great! This is a big ol' Rite Aid. Expansive isn't even the word! It stretches what seems like an city block in the city on Montcleezy and features more options than a 10-page menu. The associates are all pretty friendly and like I said, they're a spacious facility hosting the standard amenities: photo area, pharmacy, cosmetics section and even an ice cream counter if you've got a sweet tooth that needs nurturing. However, I had to deduct a star after the (incredibly sweet!) employee who took my passport photo totally botched the job, although maybe it's my fault for not realizing that the background was gray and not white. This resulted in me going to my passport application appointment and being informed that the photo wouldn't work. Luckily, I was able to get another one taken at a nearby CVS, but it was still an inconvenience and a hassle all due to the employee's mistake. But I do want to add that I called Rite Aid afterwards and they offered a refund and made the situation right. I don't suggest getting photos taken or even printed there but I think purchasing and pharmacy services are still all good. I will keep this short and sweet. Ages ago, I was a retail store manager and had over 50 employees on my team. This store doesn't have that many so I don't think it would take much to train these folks, do you? Well that's actually my question to management, why don't you get these folks trained on customer service? My recommendation is for the district or regional manager to send some secret shoppers into the store to make recommendations. this is a Covid 19 review. I was standing in the RX line and watched a clerk who was doing inventory in the candies. She had a mask on, lowered the mask wiped her sweaty face left the mask off and continued to handle ALL of the candies as she used her handheld to read the barcode. I called and the store manger wasn't in. The young man who answered the phone said, "yes we are told but.." Also in the pharmacy they have a pen to sign the credit card machine and it isn't wiped off after every customer. eek! This is probably the nicest, cleanest, most pristine Rite Aids I've ever visited. I don't know if it's because ts located in Montclair but boy, oh boy, is it clean af in here. It's huge, too. Most Rite Aids are often dirty, disorganized, and the kind of place you don't want to linger. It's not like that at all here. You still get the dope prices without the ghettoness. It's great! Spoiler alert: it won't. You come one evening: it's not ready, it will be ready in 30 minutes. You say you'll be back the next day. You come back the next day. It's not quite ready. Unlike other major pharmaceutical outlets, Rite Aid readily answered my questions about immunization products (including senior types) carried and applicable hours administered. As I'm 82 years old I had certain specific needs (I.e., the "over 65" flu shot and the two-stage pneumonia immunization.)
