Rite-A-Way Plumbing was contracted and paid by our home warranty company to remove and replace a water heater in Eagle Idaho. Before they started, Rite-A-Way sent me an invoice for $840 with no description other than it was for "non-covereds". Days later, after several calls and written communication, they would only tell me this was for additional work that was required to meet the building codes. Through many phone calls, text and emails, I was able to extract that several tasks had to be done in "mods" to meet the building code. They described these modification tasks as significant modifications to install the water heater over and above a simple installation. They eventually offered very limited details but maintained they were required. The "mods" tasks included water lines $140 - they unthreaded 2 water lines and threaded 2 new ones on - nothing more. Gas line and sediment filter $140 - they unthreaded the gas line added a new one and a couple pieces of pipe costing about $15 total for a homemade sediment trap and threaded it back on - nothing more. Flue mod $140. They mounted my existing flue pipe on the new water heater - nothing more. Pressure and temperature mod - they used my old drain line inverted it, added a pvc coupler, and attached it to the new water heater - nothing more. Drain pan mod $140 - they placed a drain pan on the floor before they set the new water heater on it - nothing more. Expansion tank mod $140 - they replaced the expansion tank and mounted it on the water heater. The old tank was only 4 years old, but they said it was 20 years old. It had no issues. They were not required to do this per the code. They also removed the 18" stand the old heater was on and placed the new heater close to the floor. This too was not required. They tried to charge me $840 for these "significant" modifications which only took them an extra 20 minutes to do. The whole replacement and these "mods" were done in 1 1/2 to 2 hours as verified by my tenant. They were not truthful about the building code requiring each of these, and none of them required anything more than a simple wrench and a few minutes to complete. These are not significant modifications as they tried to claim. Nothing of the existing pipes or fittings needed any modifications. They charged me to do much of this job that they were already paid to do - double dipping and lack of business integrity. Rite-A-Way told me they do not get paid enough from the warranty company to do an installation; therefore, they create these "mods" to get the consumer to pay extra. I found other complaints about this company doing this same unethical tactic. Finally, Rite-A-Way told me they would be obtaining the lawfully required permit from the City of Eagle to do the work before they start the job. A week + after completing the job they still had not obtained the legally required permit they were required to get prior to starting the job. I had to personally get the permit myself. Rite-A-Way will say I agreed to the $840, and I did pay it except for the $65 permit fee. However, their deceptively gross misleading business practices of saying these "mods" are required, getting paid twice for the same task, charging me to do tasks they did not do and presenting the work as significant modifications say a lot about their business practices. They also would not provide a detailed invoice before or after the job showing what they did, the labor or parts used, or their warranty information. They would not listen to my complaint of being overcharged for work they did not do, and made no offer to adjust it to a reasonable and fair amount for what they actually did. If you had or want a water heater installed by Rite-A-Way Plumbing, be sure they spell out specifically what they are going to do including parts and labor for each task. And get the building permit in your hands before they start, or they may never get it. read more

They were so professional and fixed the problem with my water heater tha multiple other plumbers could not fix (or quoted me thousands of dollars to fix). ZERO stars. I was referred to this company via my home warranty program. I have been without hot water almost 3 weeks. Rite A Way has had the contract for 2 weeks and states they cannot get the part needed. When I call, they say they will call back, but then don't. I have had enough of hauling heavy kettles of hot water in order to take a bath. Two weeks of excuses is uncalled for. RUN...DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!! I contacted ANOTHER company today. They have returned my call, located the part and will install it on Tuesday morning. read more

Chris came to fix my leaking shower not 6 months later it was leaking again. When I called him back to see if he would honor his warranty he said no because I didn't have my home warranty any longer. He said that if you have a home warranty and he is called out to fix your problem he doesn't do it a proper job because he is not paid enough money from the warranty company. He said "it is the nature of the beast". He even told me I should have another plumber come and fix it. When I had another plumber come and look at his work he pointed out how incorrect his work was. Hire anyone one else but these guys! I only picked 1 star because I had to. I would give them 0 stars if I could. read more

Originally called out by my warranty company for a minor plumbing issue in my bathroom shower faucet. Brandon came out removed the defective part and left for approximately 2 hours to "find" the part. He said because my home is older the part is not available in this area but he did get it ordered by one of the supply houses in town. That seemed reasonable to me and he re-installed the defective part (temporarily). It's been over 2 weeks now he will not respond to my phone calls and now their voice mail is full. I have contacted the warranty people and I'm in the process of hopefully getting a competent plumber out to make this minor repair. If you have LandMark Home Warranty do not allow them to send these yahoo's out to your home. read more

This was the first plumber my home warranty called out to the house. They didn't call back within the time allotted. Then they showed up looked a my water heater for leaks and saw that there was water all over the garage. He said yep it was bad (needs to be replaced) and then said he had to call the home warranty company. Sat an hour in front of the house on the phone then one of the guys came and said they aren't getting through and would call me back later that night. Also told me that they had calls in to get a new water heater - as what I had 75 gal and gas was not available in the valley and they would have to get it shipped. They didn't call me back - I got a email the next day that the ticket was reassigned.... When I called back the warranty group they said that Rite-A-Way company had declined the ticket. They weren't paid enough, the water heater was too big, they didn't have enough guys........ that was their story. So when the final Plumber showed up he automatically got the water heater closed off and closed the pipes to the house.... but then I had to call a clean up company as the water had leaked all in the house. IF Rite-A-Way had any kind of customer service... they would have stopped the leaks first and then followed up with a call and tell me what was going on... I understand that home warranties probably aren't the highest paying, BUT I would have had a lot less problems if they had only take a few extra minutes... Obviously they only care about their bottom line - not the customer. read more

She has some damage to her wall and carpet, and they took care of her and called Titan, who was very very great as well. Right away plumbing was sent to us by American Home Shield to fix a broken pipe in the crawl space in a rental. I called approximately 10 am. Brandon was able to make it out between 2:30 and 3:00pm. He found a pinhole leak and fixed the piping. When he turned the water back on we found out there was a second issue. Brandon said it was in the main outside the building. He called American Home Shield and told them that. He then told me there was nothing else he could do that they were a small company and it was getting late and he had other jobs to take care of. I asked what I was suppose to do - that my tenants needed water and he told me to call Master Rooters that they were better equipped. Guess what it costs to do emergency excavation and repair after hours on a Friday night during a BSU game. They came and dug and guess what no leak outside. They went into the crawl space and 6 inches below the fix a 90 had a fairly large hole in it. We called Chris and he wasn't sending anyone out, wouldn't pay for the new repair, we were basically a non concern to him. Now I have to prove to the insurance the leak was outside. Just another thing that has to be done because they could not do their job. If I could give them negative stars I would.
